The Fantasyland Hotel, nestled in the heart of West Edmonton Mall, is celebrated for its convenient location and whimsical themed rooms. However, some travelers warn of inconsistent service, ranging from helpful to unresponsive, and noise disruptions. Many guests feel the hotel doesn't provide good value, mentioning overpricing and outdated facilities. While the unique atmosphere of the themed rooms initially captivates, visitors often find the charm diminished by maintenance issues and a lack of cleanliness in certain areas.

ThIs Hollywood room had windows into the shower and mirrors positioned so you could be seen from just about anywhere in the room. The bed is very high and the “dance pole” was a glowing plastic rod. The tub has a drying cycle that kicks off in the middle of the night. I’m glad my wife found it funny!

We checked into the hotel on Monday, March 2nd. We pulled up and the bellman was super friendly and helpful, they stored our luggage for us so we could enjoy the mall, and the desk staff was helpful. Upon return, they brought our luggage to the room for us and we had nothing but great impressions, other than the fact the hotel is under renovation, which wasn't mentioned when I booked, but other than a few visual things, it wasn't noisy or anything like that.

We stayed in 818, the princess suite, and it was beautiful. The kids loved it and I'd recommend it, however one thing missing was an eating area, a small table and chairs would have gone a long way and there's plenty of room for it. The jet tub is huge, and there was a lot of cute details in the room that really elevated it.

Then came the next morning... We ordered some food through a delivery service. The delivery person couldn't come upstairs to deliver, since the elevator is key locked, which is great for security. The order was left at the desk and we sent one of the kids to grab it. The desk staff asked for the room number once, and then again. She stated the room number and said nothing else to the staff member. He then proceeded to disrespect and berate her, saying that she "doesn't have to give him attitude" and she took the bag and returned to our room both incredibly confused and crying. I called down to speak to this person, he essentially defended his position which is mind blowing, but offered up some ride wristbands for the "misunderstanding." I personally felt like this spoiled the entire trip, and when you pay over 400.00 for a night, you don't expect that a staff member making your child cry will be part of the package.

When we came down to check out, the staff in question was not there to issue a personal apology, and I had to ask for the wristbands. I did ask the clerk we dealt with if there was a note on the file and she said there was... so I'm not sure why we had to ask for them.

We stored our bags again and tried to make the best of our day before our flight. When we returned, there was no valet, no bellman, one front desk staff, and no one else in sight. The person trying to assist us could not answer questions regarding airport transportation or anything else that we needed. It seemed like a totally different hotel from the time we checked in to the time we left.

You are paying for location 100%. The rooms themselves are incredibly dated with 80s decor (mirrors mirrors mirrors and marble). The bathroom was teeny tiny and we heard our neighbour puking in the morning (so romantic!). No breakfast included, no coffee, nothing. TV was bare bones and on demand movies were $25! Wifi was very spotty and even after emailing the front desk, it never was resolved. Air conditioner was very loud and sounded like a waterfall rushing through the walls. Jacuzzi was awesome but due to low water pressure took forever to fill. Only amazing feature was being steps away from WEM (although we chose to come during Covid so most things were closed or had shortened hours). All in all, it was an average room for a WAY above average price. They could fix all these things and charge the same and I would be happy or they could leave it all as is and charge $50-100 less per night.

1. My dad contacted the Manager first through email when we got home-after our stay in the Luxury Space Theme Room #602 Apr 27/2020. We specifically asked for the managers business card when we checked out and informing the desk of the problems(the card had the email of the manager to discuss our discrepancies, which he emailed them first to reach out before leaving a review). But after a couple weeks now we have NOT gotten a reply from the manager but at least “12 pre online surveys for our stay” have popped up in emails. No one has contacted him so far.
2. Jacuzzi leaked. At 2:00am after getting out of the jacuzzi, which was no where near filled even half full of water I noticed it was leaking a foot outwards up to the bathroom door through the floor, unusable after finding that out. (I have no idea how housekeeping never noticed this seeing as they have to use the wand and water taps connected to the tub to clean it after every use).
3. Wi-fi did not work in any way shape or form. I actually connected for about 10 seconds once, but after moving my arm 2 inches it logged off. After 30 minutes of trying every angle and every single piece of room space I gave up, so this was a joke.

This hotel is not worth staying at considering the price of their rooms.

Paid $664 for a two night stay a month ago to save 10% for booking 21+ days in advance.

I wasn't expecting lavish accomodations at a family hotel in a mall but i would have expected a welcoming atmosphere and a good first impression.

Once you are checked it there is absolutely no communication from staff. Staff are not friendly or welcoming during the check in process either.

There is no continental breakfast offered and no vouchers or coupons given to guests for nearby restaurants.

The mirrors and glass surfaces were quite smudgy. The LED lights were detatching from the walls in places. The carpet was shabby and overall the room needs a facelift.

The "free" wifi barely worked on our devices even when we were IN the hotel.

There is currently construction going on which we were not told about during the time of booking.

The convenience of being able to walk right out into the mall was great but didn't make it an experience worth $664 for a 2 night stay.

Spend your money elsewhere and stay at a different hotel and simply viait West Edmonton Mall from a different hotel.

Stayed in room 1114, Roman theme room. The room was dirty, run down beyond belief and could smell weed all night.

I understand there’s covid rules in place but to have to drink wine out of the bottle because they don’t provide any kind of glass or cup is nuts? But if we’re going to those lengths, wouldn’t you expect the room to be clean? The countertop underneath the tv was dirty. I wiped my hand across it and me and my wife could easily see the dust, crumbs, dead skin whatever it was? There’s a mirror on the ceiling above the bed that had dirty hand prints and finger swipes all over it(not just a bad windex job). Obviously at this point there was zero chance of us getting in the jacuzzi tub but I did have a look at it. The tub itself appeared to have been cleaned but the “chandelier” above it nearly made me sick. I even wiped on of the fake crystal components of the light in hopes that when I write this review and a manager reads it, they go to the room and check for themselves. The scuz is wiped off an upper middle crystal piece that’s facing towards the tv. Now that you’ve sent someone up there to “investigate” I really hope you don’t respond to this review with some generic template that apologizes and “hopes the next time you can show us how great the hotel is” or whatever you have saved as a response to a bad review. But hey, we always have covid to blame for the brutal condition of your hotel so let’s use that template instead. It’s going to be comical if someone does address this as I’ll be stumped as to who’s writing, there’s not a manager, general manager, supervisor or anything like that working at this hotel. That’s a fact. $300+ I’ll never get back.

This was a family vacation stay to take advantage of the WEM attractions and to stay in the luxury truck room that the kids wanted to experience. The hotel is clearly experiencing a housekeeping shortage which is unfortunate but should not be visible to the guest. Check in was provided 1.5 hours past the guaranteed check in at 4 PM. Additionally, the room was not fully cleaned (kids found toys and other items in the children's bunk beds which made it seem like the linen had not been changed between guests. Also no housekeeping to change towels or make beds after the first night - was told by staff this is by request only, which I have never heard of in a hotel room that costs $400+. Generally, the luxury truck room is very out of date and needs a renovation. The bathroom in particular is circa 1985. It was convenient to be right in WEM for the attractions but other than that I would look to stay at a better hotel in Edmonton (for less) and take an Uber to the mall and back.

I would not recommend staying here considerating the amount of $ you pay to stay here. We had the igloo theme room, the kids couldn't use there iPads cause the wifi was poor and we barely had heat in the room all night. We waited over 45 minutes in line to check in upon arrival and when we were leaving the next day we waited over 15 minutes for the elevator, which still never did come. So we ended up having to take the stairs from the 5th floor with our 4 small kids and all of our luggage. I will not stay here again!!!!!

I made my Covid-Christmas a bit brighter by treating myself to the Polynesian Room and enjoyed it. If you want the glam, don't use this one but if you want a fun decor and kind of "Elvis Hawaii" feel, it's perfect and definitely a good one for solo travelers. The hot waterfall-fed jacuzzi was what I was looking for. There's a Lush store in the mall for those who are spending a few days here so you can go get a bath bomb or something for it.

The bed: if you are two people and both want to watch the TV, the person on the right hand side of the bed will not be able to do that as the best is like a Catamaran and there's one of the big pillars in front of them. So, don't use this room if you've come a long way and spent a lot of money just to watch TV. Also, there is faux-bamboo "running boards" on either side so you have to kneel on this hard arborite to get into the bed (or load from the foot of the bed). Lots of pillows and a comfy night's sleep though.

Because of COVID, they have had to remove the coffee making supplies. They had a requested kettle up to the room almost before I got up there from the lobby. It has a about 10" cord and they must think I like to drink boiling water straight from the kettle while sitting on the floor behind the dresser as there's no coffee making things. I'm a seasoned traveler and always have individual coffees in my overnight bag c/w mug because I don't like styro cups other hotels (other than this one) provides. So, because I had the preps, the kettle was good. If you don't have your own tea, coffee, stir stuck (used my toothbrush) and mug, don't worry about the kettle. Again, if you're staying here for a few days, there's a Dollarama in the mall.

All in all a fun trip, I didn't encounter a lot of the staff but I'm sure they're lovely. I live closeby and don't need to spend more than a day or go to the mall itself but if you are from out of town, the mall and its activities in normal times would be a good way to kill a day so you might want to do two nights.

It's not close to downtown (convention centre, Rogers arena) but it's easy transport to get there. If you're attending something in a salon in the hotel it's perfect.

Hello Cijaym, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are happy to hear that you chose to do your "pretend-holiday" with us. We are also happy to hear that you enjoyed our Classic Polynesian theme, and enjoyed your time in our jacuzzi. Staying with us at the Fantasyland Hotel really is a fun way to have a simple get away. Everything can be done at the mall while you stay with us, such as shop from all the store, and dine at various restaurants. Normally all our rooms will have the amenities of coffee maker, hair dryer and glasswares, these have been removed to keep all our guest and staff safe. However, if you need any or all these items you may always request them at the Front Desk. We are glad that you had an enjoyable time, and we hope that you come and join us again soon.

I would not recommend the Pizza Room Service Package, our pizza was slightly warm and tasted like it was made earlier in the day then reheated.
