I honestly don't know how this place has a 4-star rating. It's pretty rough around the edges, the bedding is rough and uncomfortable, the walls and door are incredibly thin (you can hear absolutely everything through them), the room itself is on the small side and the bathroom is even worse. I've stayed in motels that felt less "budget". Everything about this place so far feels kind of disappointing, to say the least.
Booked online through Expedia which was nice and easy. Showed up to check in and wife only uses her credit card for online purchases and didn’t have her PIN number. I didn’t have my Mastercard and they couldn’t help us out at all not even with a debit deposit or swipe and sign on credit card. Was unable to check in and for that reason probably won’t even bother staying with them again. Have stayed in the past and rooms were whatever but a little help from the front desk staff would have been muchly appreciated this go around. Hotel next door gladly took us in no questions asked.
Coast hotel downtown is not a safe place to stay. There is a high risk that you will be subject to acts of vandalism and violence. Also, paid parking is not safe parking. Be careful at this hotel. Stay at your own risk. Front desk words to us were "We are not liable".
If I could give less than one star I would. I stayed here in October and had an uneventful experience. I knew from that stay the restaurant was sub par. I liked the location so I booked again for January 3rd. We checked in and left shortly after and didn’t return until midnight. When I finally flipped the bedding back & crawled into bed I noticed some flakes on the bedding. As I was trying to get a better look I started to notice a smell. I pulled the bedding back further and noticed green staining on the white sheet. The smell overtook me. I looked down to a large pile of vomit along the side of the bed and resting on the platform. Mortified I got up and called the front desk to let them know I needed a new room. 10 minutes later I could hear knocking on a room down the hall. I looked out to see a security guard several doors down. He was looking for me. He had keys to a new room and said he needed the current ones. I let him know he was welcome to those by the bed. I found it odd no mention of apology but was just ready to move along. In the morning I realized maybe the desk assumed I had made the mess so I went to the desk to ensure I was not charged now for two rooms. I remained calm and respectful however she was not understanding. I said I need you to know I did not make the mess and I now know you don’t clean your bedding. She shrugged her shoulders, smirked at me and said “thank you for noticing”. I was shocked that still no one was acknowledging how gross this was. Anyway, the other things I noticed was an overall dirtiness, dirty walls in the rooms & hallways; the towels smelled musty and old; I’m also not a fan of community shampooing & soaps in the shower. I will never book a cost hotel again.…
The Coast Edmonton Plaza just lost a longtime customer. I booked a three-night stay from Dec. 20-23 through Priceline, pre-paid (bad idea), with a cancellation date of Dec. 17. Like thousands of other travellers, my flight to Edmonton from Vancouver was cancelled Dec. 20. The Coast got paid for its three nights, for an empty room. When my flight was rescheduled to Dec. 25-27, I asked the Coast to transfer two nights of the (unused) reservation. They refused. Priceline has also been unhelpful. The worst kind of Christmas grinchy-ness. I'll never give them another dime.
My room was booked with a card on file for security coverage so I would not need one on arrival. Everything was supposed to be taken care of, I would just need my ID. This was confirmed when booking the room since my card was in the middle of being replaced and if it did not arrive in time I would need something for check in. When traveling for business, this is pretty normal and I have never had an issue when it is done this way. The check in staff did not really look very hard and basically refused to let me check in. After leaving me hanging they finally called the person who booked, well after hours and on a weekend, to see if they would send in the paperwork and I am not sure how that conversation went but suddenly they found it on looking for 15 seconds again. I am left feeling they simply did not look very hard to begin with.…
Hotel lobby was nice. Had to wait to check in but staff were quick. No elevator into underground parking. Parking spaces can be tight so wouldn't recommended a larger vehicle. Room was clean and somewhat updated but could be updated more. Fancy bidet toilet attachment but not necessary. Elevators are fast. Could not get connected onto the internet but we weren't in the room long enough to deal with it. Extra pillows needed. No apps such as Neflex on tv. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided in shower. Close walk to Rogers Place. Paid for underground parking ahead of time but got a ticket on our car anyways.
We found this place because of the electric vehicle charging. We booked because they allowed pets and had a pool. The staff, green space and dining made it outstanding. Comfortable and safe place to stay downtown. Sofiia and Roberto were outstanding, but all staff were great!
Average hotel, could use some work. Poor restaurant with no room service. The worst avocado on toast - it was actually comical. The strip club across the street was problematic during our stay. With street fights, loud music and parking lot parties. A downtown vibe for sure.
Rooms have been updated. Beds comfortable. The Toto bidet was a luxurious touch in the rooms. Salt water whirlpool was awesome. Easier on the skin and hair and the hours 6 am to 11 pm meant we could really use it a lot. Asked for robes and an electric kettle to our room and all were delivered quickly. Microwaves also available upon request.
