While there is no running water this is the perfect place to stay while traveling the Icefields Parkway! CHECK-IN We arrived later in the evening and check-in was a breeze, staff were lovely and showed us everything we needed to know. COMMON ROOM The common areas of the hostel are very well set up, the kitchen area has everything you...

Rooms are large with many bunks, common room is available 24 hours. No wifi, drop toilets, microwave is available but you're asked to use the hob if possible due to the amount of energy it uses. Be aware of these things before you stay so you're not disappointed - because across the road are the stunning Athabasca Falls. Take a...

We booked one of the private rooms and stayed for four nights. We loved the kitchen facilities-- lots of cooking pots, utensils, large fridge and the staff made sure all the systems were working well. The private room has a shared wall with the other private room so you have to be lucky to get quiet neighbours. The outdoor toilets...

Exceptionally clean cabins and common area, take your shoes off! Linens supplied, fully stocked shared kitchen with anything you need, just bring your food. Lots of potable water available. Firepit is very close to the highway, which was a bit of a downer. We stayed in a private cabin, very clean with all linens, queen bed plus two bunkbeds. Outhouses...

Traveling via rail without a car made this hostel an appealing option to avoid town tourism, buses and camper vans. We took a taxi to the hostel ($80) and hitch-hiked back to Jasper with a super-friendly family. The hostel has a large and well-stocked shared kitchen and living room. There is an unlimited supply of healthy water, but no running...

Arrived with my wife and friends for a one night stay yesterday evening. This wilderness hostel has a wonderfully cosy and relaxing atmosphere, with real charm around the common area and the dorms. The manager was helpful and trusting and the other guests were respectful and friendly. I was initially concerned about the lack of running water and the basic...

Dorms are tight and sleep quite a few people but the common room was fabulous. 3 big, beautifully finished, wooden picnic tables and a cozy sitting area. There was a HUGE tank for water and a wood burning stove in the middle. Great spot across the highway from the falls. Oh, and the outhouses have solar powered lights in them......

Stayed here for 3 nights while on an ice climbing and back country ski trip in the middle of winter. Before I get all flowery, be warned this is a backcountry hostel. There are no showers, the toilets are pit toilets with cold seats, you will have to heat all water on the stove and the majority of the beds...

We (two adults and three kids) spent a wonderful few nights at Hi Athabasca. Think, really cosy Scottish bothy type accommodation mixed with clean facilities, a roaring fire and really comfy beds and you have Hi Athabasca. Situated next to the waterfall and an easy 25 minute drive north of jasper, the hostel is surrounded by natural beauty and great...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
HI-Athabasca Falls is an idyllic mountain retreat. Five cedar panelled cabins sit amongst the trees at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. The mighty Athabasca River tumbles over the nearby falls. Horseshoe Lake with its enchanting mirrored water or spring-fed Leech Lake make for ideal summertime swims. In the winter, wake up in the cozy hostel and get ready for a day of cross-country skiing on a groomed trail that runs up the Geraldine Lakes road, or if you prefer the thrills of the downhill, Marmot Basin is a short drive away.HI-Athabasca offers a large common room, wood stove, firepit and deck. The accommodations are comfortable but basic: simple bunk beds, shared dorms, and no running water. In the summer, there is an outdoor "cowboy" shower for those not willing to brave a morning dip in the river. No Internet, no bar, just the forest cabin that you always dreamed of. Nothing will get you closer to getting away from it all.The Fryatt Valley and Athabasca Pass are easily accessed from the hostel offering cross-country skiing, hiking, and mountain biking opportunities. This is a wilderness hostel with limited creature comforts - no running water, no showers, and no flush toilets. We do have purified water for cooking, a refrigerator, stoves, and solar-powered lights. Due to our wilderness location, accessibility for the physically disabled is challenging. ... more   less
