Stayed two nights. Positive: room was clean, bed linens and towels were better quality, it was quiet for most of our stay; however, unit next to us was empty. Water was hot but not too much water pressure in shower. Staff was friendly and welcoming.

Close to Sunwapta falls so you can walk to that location from hotel but zero other options for food or supplies nearby.

In my opinion, in room coffee and coffee at breakfast were un drinkable. In room coffee is of such quality, you just don’t drink it. We had ground coffee and the front desk gave us a kettle to make are own. Coffee at breakfast was weak and had an odd taste (perhaps local water), but really, really terrible. Included breakfast was ok, I expected some bacon or sausage given the room prices.

Overall, stay was fine but would probably stay closer to Jasper next time so that there are more dining options.

I would love to give this resort 5 stars. The location is so great and we loved that it wasn't right in the touristy centre of Jasper. The rooms are dated but clean and neat and the bed, bedding, and linens were all completely fine. The staff was also incredibly friendly and helpful. No complaints there at all. The rooms however, have very thin walls and you can hear everything going on in the room next to you, including snoring, conversations, etc. There's no ventilation in the room so you have to leave the windows open. This wasn't really a problem except that there was a group of people outside visiting until way past midnight (even though we were told at check in that quiet time was at 10pm). It was really hard to sleep between the noise from the room next to us and the visiting outside. I finally had to use ear plugs. The other issue is the water. It's drinkable but honestly, it's horrible. Bottles of water are for sale for $3.50 in the deli, which is ridiculous. Including a couple of bottles of water in the fridge would be a nice touch, considering the taste and colour of the water. I'm usually not fussy about these things but I couldn't drink it. I also wasn't prepared for there to not be dishes and cutlery in the room. Usually if there's a fridge, sink and cupboards, the room is stocked. During covid, I understand that all of that has been removed, but notification should be included on the website amenities section. Overall, the entire place needs to be upgraded and it would be amazing. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back which is really too bad because I really did love the location and the fact that I didn't need to go into Jasper for anything.

Very friendly staff, the rooms combined in a main house or smaller cabins, which unfortunately are very noisy. The interior looks very pieced together. The hotel gives two stars as classification. That is correct.
So far everything is okay and deserves four points in itself, but the price-performance ratio just doesn't fit right. It's too expensive. Even taking into account that the accommodation is in the middle of nowhere and that certainly incurs additional costs. Unfortunately, the same goes for the really good dinner, which is really recommended.
In this respect, we see the hotel as a possible stopover on the journey between Banff and Jasper. Then you should not miss the Sunwapta Falls, reachable in 5 minutes on foot.

The pluses here were the location on the Icefield Parkway and the fact that the reception staff were all pleasant and did their best. Also, the lodge though very basic was at least clean. Beyond that matters go downhill fast. Everything in the restaurant is a complete rip-off e.g. sandwiches are close to C$20 and the (very limited) menu is similarly extremely expensive. It is clear that the complex is in business terms run as a cash cow e.g. the reception has a limited number of microwaves and kettles available for those wishing for one instead of these being standard throughout. The food quality is extremely poor and the breakfast is the worst we have ever experienced - unvarying and stingy in nature: porridge made with water for instance. The low-point for me was that one morning the fruit choice comprised 3 extremely green bananas that were so green they could not be peeled and were near inedible. On leaving the breakfast room though I noticed some nice ripe yellow bananas being sold at an incredible price in the shop so the following morning I asked for ripe bananas to be provided and someone transferred some from the shop. However, I should not have had to ask.....Another morning my wife noticed someone being given bacon and sausage along with the usual low grade scrambled egg and hash browns and asked for some too but was told in no uncertain terms that the persons in receipt of this unusual luxury had paid extra for them in advance! One other point: the lodges needed updating a decade ago and are badly lacking in power points. Going to Mount Robson Inn in Jasper with its quality accommodation and good breakfasts was akin to transferring from a 1 star establishment to a 4 star one. My better half took such a dim view of this place that she dubbed it "The Dump". In summary, the convenient location comes at a very high price and this is one of those cases where one Cannot Recommend A Purchase.

The staff at Sunwapta is excellent. They have a thriving gift shop, restaurant and the lodging. Everyone we encountered was willing and ready to go above and beyond to please the guests. We do recommend staying here. However, the cabins (and frankly everything) carries a steep price owing to their location in Jasper National Park.
The cabins are not independent but instead are one structure divided into 4 spaces, each with 3 steps to their door. Therefore noise from guests in the same structure resonates throughout all 4 adjoining cabins. It’s obvious that ownership has made improvements to the bathrooms and bedding. The phrase putting lipstick on a pig comes to mind.

Overall, we are glad we stayed at Sunwapta. We enjoyed our meal in their restaurant and the views are amazing. Be prepared for a lot of traffic from 9am to 5pm as the lodge is at the entrance to Sunwapta Falls. A walk to the falls after 7pm is magical. (beware of the mosquito swarm that is unavoidable in summer).

Not a great experience. The walls are so thin you can hear the neighbors talking, coughing and even snoring. The wi fi only works in the office/restaurant, the tv only has 5-6 channels and doesn’t always come in. The breakfast buffet doesn’t include any meat, if you want bacon or sausage you have to pay extra, I travel frequently and I’ve never experienced that. The bathrooms need updating as well, it felt like I was showering in a 1973 Winnebago.

I enjoyed my stay here. Rooms were clean and comfortable and bed was very comfortable. All employees were nice and helpful with questions I had. I thought it was very nice of them to walk us to our room and we felt very welcomed and appreciated guests.

This place is the getaway we needed!! My husband works in IT and has not had a break since Covid started. We took a weekend breather and right from the online booking to our departure from Sunwapta it was a great experience. (the wifi is very spotty and there is no cell service, which met our needs) The staff from the first hello went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The girls at the front desk were super helpful in planning activities, and giving info on the timeline, ( how far things are, how long things take). The staff in the restaurant was super helpful in making choices for us ( we eat a plantbased diet). The Veggie Korma is THE BOMB!! Waitstaff went out of their way to make sure we had a great meal, and went the extra step to ask about our vacation, even though they were super busy. So thoughtful and nice to know they really cared about our stay. The housekeeping staff was on top of anything that needed to be cleaned, and they were on point in high touch zones. The grounds are beautiful, everything is well maintained. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. (well only if they can control the weather and the crows at 5 am :)

Hey! We have been working on our skills and abilities and hope to one day gain control of both the weather and the Ravens, but alas, they are both tricky to master! Until that time, we are happy to hear we were still able to provide you with a nice (mostly) quiet getaway despite those pesky Ravens. Time away after these lockdowns is much needed and much deserved. I bet your husband especially enjoyed being unplugged and away from technology for your vacation! And even though we cannot offer top notch wifi, at least we are able to offer awesome vegan and vegetarian options. We are so happy to hear that you were able to have the getaway that you needed here at Sunwapta!

Excellent room, very clean, wonderful food served to you in rooms (contactless). Amazing, friendly staff. Cute souvenirs in the gift shop. Walking distance to Sunwapta Falls. It was frosty and they made sure walkways were safe and clear to walk my dog early in the morning. Excellent value and we are planning our return. Can’t beat the mountain views in the morning. Great place to enjoy family time together.

The hotel was a comfortable and convenient place to stay on the Columbia Icefields highway. It offered economical room, which was clean ( stayed in Lodge room) and provided a porch in which to enjoy the outdoors. The restaurant was pricey but food was tasty ( prices comparable to Jasper Town). I'd stay again

Sunwapta is right in the centre of Jasper National Park, so the Icefields are 50km south and the town of Jasper 50km north. It's ideal if you like the idea of being in a truly rustic setting with great service from staff, and awesome food. The falls are a 5 minute walk away, more sets just 20 mins further from there. There are other local hikes. Athabasca falls is 1/2 way to Jasper... It's a great spot to use to explore. Your furthest site is Maligne Lake which is 50km down a different road south of Jasper. But the staff organize ideas for you so it's not like a boring drive, it's filled with opportunity to see and explore.

Hi Onabelle! We have seen the northern lights quite a few times at Sunwapta 😊. I will say you probably have to leave your room, but yes possible to see without leaving the hotel grounds. You’re bringing back some great memories with that question! 🙏Matt

Thank for your question! We do not have air conditioning in our rooms because temperatures drop fairly low overnight, even in the summer months! We do provide fans for each room if they decide it is a little bit warm.
