Property has great potential, however the most disappointing part was our room.

(1) We booked a waterview king with private deck. Our room (110) barely had a waterview unless you stood at the far right side of the deck to see a sliver. This should NOT be in the same room category for guests booking, rather should have its own category noting the partial view. Unless landscaping were to happen along the water edge. Also shown in booking photos for this room category there are tables on deck, which we did not have and room photos show loveseat or sofa chair next to bed, but we had an uncomfortable sitting chair in our room smushed into curtains against sliding doors.

(2) room cleanliness not great. There were multiple spider webs and spiders in all corners of room and bathroom. The top of our headboard was covered in dust, carpets smelled mildewy.

(3) we were placed in a room on 1st floor right next to ice machine and I specifically asked if it would be noisy and was told it won’t be, buildings are solid concrete. We could hear people constantly getting ice and chatting right outside the whole stay.

(4) Daily breakfast buffet would run out of items quickly, and I watched a guest asked the server girl if they would be bringing out any additional pastries and she just ignored the guest, turned around and walked into the back room. Other than that the quality of items was good for being included.

Typically I am not one to write reviews or complain, as I did work in hotel hospitality for 14 years and understand how difficult it can be. I am writing this today because after taking some time to think about it, we were just so utterly disappointed with our lack of waterview as I specially booked this room type to sit out on the deck, bird watch and read. We most certainly would not have paid the amount we did had we known the room type booked was not what was advertised. I have included photos of what was advertised and what we received. Again, maybe it’s time to add a different room category for this room type.

Stayed here June 2021. Room was comfortable. Bathroom is very small. One recommendation, especially given COVID no room cleaning still, install more hooks or towel bars for drying. Breakfast was delicious and the servers were wonderfully friendly and helpful. One morning, several people spilled the milk for their cereal and the final gentleman spilled a good cup of milk and cereal all over the breakfast bar. Even though it was the busiest time with almost all the tables full, several of the kitchen staff came out and together they and the servers got everything cleaned up and ready to go again. Even though none of the guests attempted to clean up their own mess, this crew was efficient and maintained a positive outward appearance through it all. Respect for you all! Also, a different selfish guest decided to smoke several times an evening and late night on their first floor patio so that their smoke drifted right up into our 2nd fl room causing us to have to close our door to the great sounds of the water and morning birds due to asthma smoke impact. The next morning on my way into breakfast I asked to be moved rooms. While that wasn't possible, the front desk gentleman was incredibly professional and said he would remind the other guest of the designated smoking areas. As I left breakfast, I swung by to check the status of the situation. The front desk gentleman had already spoken with the guest and assured me it would be no further problem. That evening, we smelled one quick puff of smoke but that was it! Thanks for ensuring we could enjoy our stay as much as the other guest. We loved paddling the kayaks and canoes early in the morning and were fortunate to be visited by a seal and an eagle! Thank you for the filtered water station! The bikes were in great condition but the hills were more than we cared to ride on them. We didn't take advantage of the mini golf, ping pong, evening fire, hot tub, or pool but we appreciate that they were there for our enjoyment. This fit exactly what we were looking for in our Maine experience. Comfortable, relatively clean, very friendly, and quiet for the most part. Good job Ocean's Gate!

We stayed for four nights. The previous place we had stayed not far from this hotel is no longer operational and was demolished. The pros: the siting. We had a water view king with a pleasant terrace. It was very quiet. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived a bit early to check in but it was clean. Bathroom is indeed a bit small. They could have provided more towels up front as when we did a towel switch later on, they left out bath towels. When we went to the desk as also there was only one pool towel left in the bin, they gave us four pool towels and so we used those. No one however came to replenish the pool towels on the weekend days while we we there. We reported immediately upon unpacking that we did not have access to any of the network stations and altogether we reported that 3 times and got 3 different responses. It worked very sporadically but at least we had CNN to be able to watch the hearings when we came back from dinner last Thursday. Breakfast was fine and better than a standard hotel provided breakfast. We did take advantage of the mini-golf as well as take out a canoe. We did have some issues with hot water for the shower sometimes. They told us that the hot water heater was in the middle of the building and we had an end room so sometimes it took a while to get the hot water. They were definitely short staffed and that is somewhat of the way things work these days. A little more effort is needed with both customer service and some upgrades to the physical plant. We've been to Boothbay 4 times but doubt we would stay here if/when we ever come back.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed our breakfast, canoes, and beautiful location. We are sorry that the TV was problematic. We did send several staff down to fix this issue and they reported being able to watch all channels so we are sorry that you had issues with it. We are constantly making improvements to our facility and would be proud to show you them on your next trip to the Mid-coast of Maine!

I messaged ahead of time that we have mobility issues so needed first floor and accessable. The room that we were first booked into was on the side of a hill. The parking space that went with it was very tight and on a steep slope. I called the front office and was moved to a different room in a lower building. The parking lot was flat but full of frost heaves and cement curbs going nowhere but presenting a real risk of falling. I booked the reservation with us bringing our dog but was told that was not reflected in our reservation and it would be $50 per night additional. I nearly threw up, panicked and asked about cancelling but was told I would lose everything. The room was dated. It smelled. When I opened the little frig, it fell out of its cubby. The coat hanger rings were rusty, no coffee maker, no microwave. It felt old. The screen door would not open so a very nice repair man came and told us they are all bent, broken and need replacement. The overall feeling and appearance of the property is run down. When I saw our room, I called the front desk. I said this is not the room I booked. She said that the pictures on the website are of how the rooms will look post renovation. WHAT? I am booking a room that does not exist? That is just not ok. The listing says that there is a restaurant on site. There is not. There is a morning buffet of greasy bacon, sausages, overcooked eggs and pretty good pancakes. We went to Hannafords bought food and ate in our truck.

This “resort” has obviously seen better days. The rooms were OK but the tiny air conditioning unit barely cooled the room and did nothing for the humidity. Housekeeping service was not available even upon request unless your stay was 5 days or longer. We were given no orientation to the “many outdoor amenities “ and were extremely disappointed in the quality of the breakfast choices. We tried to do a wash and found neither dryer to be functional. There were only 4 parking spaces for our 5 unit building and inadequate lighting to provide a safe walk from a remote space after dark. Very disappointed. This could be a beautiful resort with better management.

It's a nice facility, if showing a little age. The rooms are adequate but unexceptional. Staff, especially Jan and Adam, were kind and hospitable. But our desk clerk engaged in and escalated an argument with my wife over an issue that could have been easily handled. A very disturbing conversation. Apparently this person does not understand the hospitality business.

Housekeeping is on request, and does not include vacuuming or fresh bed linens. Resort? Hmmm.

Breakfast is awful: powdered eggs, bacon, sausage and blueberry pancakes. Some fruit and cereal. Oatmeal is of instant, microwave variety....

Good views, kayaks, mini-golf and cornhole for diversions.

The power went out at 2 am, and I happened to be in the bathroom at the time. They do not have a generator and the room was pitch black. I probably would have fallen as I groped my way in the dark if my husband didn't have a phone with a light. The telephone in the room was dead and it is obvious that one checks to see if everything is working or clean. The TV only had internet channels so that you had to have the information about your own internet provider to get any of the major channels. There was a used coffee bag in the coffee maker. The internet was going in and out and the general manager denied it although the front desk employee admitted that they knew that the internet service was intermittent when I first complained about it. The view from our room of the dining hall and a hill containing the pool. It seems that we paid full price for a room in the area that the staff lives in and there was no water view. On the day that we left, the area outside our room smelled like a sewer. The from desk is only staffed between 10 am and 8 pm, so when the power went out, there was no one to contact, and no way to contact anyone if I had been injured trying to get from the bathroom to the bed. The staff usually don't answer phone calls. I called 8 times one day prior to arrival and always got voicemail. When I made a complaint with the general manager about all these issues, all I got was denials and excuses. I have had better accommodations and customer service at lodgings that cost less than half of what these people charge. It's not worth the price.

The WORST property, do NOT go there. It is nothing as advertised. The photos do NOT represent the property, they clearly are virtual. When we arrived at the office to check in we were approached by a "guest" who asked us right away what room we were staying in, as if that's not creepy enough. The front door had been kicked in, the refrigerator was on the floor, door opened and not plugged in, tons of dead bugs in the window.. and this is just a few of the details. Needless to say we slept in the car, all night, and during a thunderstorm as everything around was sold out and the after hours (7pm) call service would not give us another room. The recommendation they gave was "to leave".

The place was clean but could use some updating. A/c is noisy, wooden railings block the views on the deck (unless you stand). Breakfast was fresh and a plentiful, eggs, bacon, blueberry pancakes, sausage). “Real” maple syrup would have been better!

We were looking for a low key place just to chill, eat at the local restaurants and disappear for a few days. This delivered on all counts. We got there late on our check-in day and they left the room key and instructions taped to the office door and they honored our room request too.

The rooms were a little dated but we expected that, so no surprises. But in the morning, the view from the balcony was great... we knew this was the right place.

They offer free kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, and bikes. Just have to sign the usual waiver first at the office. The included breakfast was the typical hotel breakfast but this good with me, that's what I like. They have a large central covered pavilion where you can eat and that was perfect. It really didn't ever feel crowed here. Never used the pool, we when to the beach instead.

The location to Boothbay Harbor was perfect for restaurants and we found a place just down the road in the Southport at the Coastal Crave. It was nice and private and kayaking here was perfect. They also have a good tidal range and it was interesting to view. I believe it was 12 feet variance. Cool for us landlubbers.

The office staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful on all counts. Wish I knew the gentleman's name that was working there, but he was great and enjoyed talking with him.

If you're looking for a low key place just to chill this is it. If you want something fancy try somewhere else. Totally recommend Ocean Gate.
