Really nice location and the common areas of the hotel are nicely decorated, the room however feels a little dingy both in how it looks and in how there is no attention to detail (i.e. wallpaper peeling, fan in the bathroom not working etc.)
I don't think I would stay there again, especially with how high the rates are, you certainly aren't getting your money's worth. Staff was polite.

Firstly, I'll be quite honest and say the staff there got us out of a bind. We hadn't planned an overnight stay in Jasper and literally EVERYWHERE else was full. However, we managed to grab one of the last couple of rooms available. So from a customer service point of view, I can not fault them.

But... If you're staying here you're going to pay a lot, for not a lot of room. We paid (I think) £120 for a night, and ended up in a double room, with hardly any floor space around the bed, a TV that didn't work, no aircon (which in mid summer made the room damn hot), a single bathroom, not for the room, but a single male bathroom FOR THE CORRIDOR, likewise for females. And generally Not enough to warrant what we paid.

Negatives aside: The bed was really comfy. The staff were super friendly. The bar/restaurant area was very welcoming and it's well located if you just want a nice wander around the centre of town.

Room Tip: You need to be on the top floor to be away from the noise of the bar.

Rooms were quite small but you have your own sink- no mini fridge or microwave just a heads up. Even though the bed was comfy, it was squeaky. It is a shared bathroom though but it’s kept clean. The hotel has a cool look/theme and the bar downstairs is great.

Worst hotel stay experience. Staff was too rude as if they were owing the hotel. Mentioned different price over phone and then charged 100$ extra for the same room booked, because they knew that last minute we cannot go anywhere else with family. They had this technical system issues because of which reservation details /prices were not received because of which we got misled for prices. No AC and even windows were stuck that couldn't open and had to spend whole night restless. Felt like we were in Sauna (hot room). When asked to change room they gave option to either pay extra or different floors /rooms for family stay causing all stress and inconvenience.

The ambience of this 100 year old hotel has been tastefully and authentically maintained; its rooms are basic, but pleasing in décor. It's very central for restaurants and shopping, and is within the oldest, most charming part of Jasper, whereas the newer hotels in town are located peripherally. Also, the Athabaska is usually cheaper than its newer, less seasoned rivals.

The Athabasca Hotel restaurant serves up a lively breakfast. The Athabasca and the Phoenix egg breakfast plates hit the spot (Saturdays breakfast id served until 2pm for late risers). Friendly gentle man staff greeted us, and ‘Beth’ our server was sunshine. IF you want an authentic experience come here for a meal. Thanks Jasper for keeping the charm and authenticity of the Athabasca.

We were in Jasper when there was no electricity and booked very last minute as they were the only hotel that had a generator. The staff were rushed off their feet as everyone was going there for food, plus they were feeding many of the rangers helping with the fires but they remained friendly and very helpful. They were also very kind and helpful when I was taken ill. I would definitely stay here again

A grand hotel, bang in the centre of town. Tiny rooms but you’d get over that.

Only thing that annoyed me was they took a $200 deposit, for what - I’m not sure as the room wasn’t checked when I was checking out. They refunded me the deposit upon check out, however the refund took 7 days to hit my bank account. A pointless exercise really.

That aside, I’d recommend this place as a fairly decent hotel to stay in.

Our stay at the Athabasca Hotel was outstanding. From the view from our wonderfully decorated room overlooking the centre of town to the unending helpfulness of Blair at the front desk, we enjoyed our two-day stay immensely. As cyclists, we appreciated Athabasca’s bike-friendly atmosphere and indoor storage. On-site restaurant and a pub were bonuses and the staff were great. Everything in Jasper was a short stroll away.

We loved this hotel. The vibe was great, the decorations were beautiful, the room was elegant with a view of the mountains, the bed and pillows were comfortable, and the wifi was fast. Also located in the center of the town with so many shops around. The washroom/shower was shared with other guests in the same floor (of the same gender, of course) but it didn't bother us because each time we had to use it, nobody was inside at the same time. ONE THING we were so thankful for was that we realized after a week that my husband left his tablet in the room so we called and they were quick to help us by sending it to Vancouver by mail. Apparently, the housekeeping lady in charge that day had reported it to Lost & Found department. They deducted it from our credit card and the tablet came a few days later. Highly recommend this hotel!

We also were not bothered by any noise the 2 nights we spent there. We were not drinking, it was a skiing trip so we were quite tired
