We stayed at this hotel in September 2022 for 3 nights & enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is about 30 mins drive from Jasper itself, so the location may put some people off because of the extra driving needed to reach Edith Cavell Meadows, Medicine Lake etc, but for us we didn't mind at all.

It actually worked out well for us because unfortunately wild fires had left Jasper without any electricity so not very many places were open, whereas power was still on in the Overlander.

The hotel itself is rustic but in a nice way with a big open fire that they sometimes light in the evenings. It felt very cosy and there were pictures of the hotel when it opened in the 1950s on the walls which added a nice touch of yester year.

All staff were very friendly & the food at the restaurant was excellent (some of the best meals we had on our trip). The only slight downside is that if you are there for more than a couple of nights, the menu doesn't change, so it may get a bit repetitive, but overall the food was top notch & the waiting staff were also very attentive & friendly.

The rooms are a little dated / rustic & the bathroom was small, but we didn't mind too much as hotel itself had great views and for the money in the area, it offered good value.

We would certainly stay again & recommend!

We stayed at one of the chalets, which was beautiful. Lots of light, lovely kitchen, wrap around deck.
When we visited, it was 30-34 deg C(90-94). We knew there was no AC, but had hoped that there would at least be ceiling fans in each room.
The master bedroom had a ceiling fan that was centered away from the bed, so there was no air over the bed.
The other 2 bedrooms had none.
One of the bedrooms downstairs had a window without a screen and opened to under the house, so that window could not be opened.
We opened all the other windows, with no change.
When we asked the front desk, we were told that each room should have had a fan. We didn’t find any.
The receptionist found us one floor fan, which she said she had to get from one of the other properties.
The next day, after we complained some more, we were given one more fan. Given that temps get high in summers, having fans available if needed is the least one can expect when paying those prices.
The views from the restaurant deck in the back were beautiful.

Long way from Jasper
Short drive 2k from brewing company folding mountain ( do go great food and beer10/10)
Room small but clean
Jacuzzi element of bath didn’t work
On check in asked for upgrade - too expensive for us.
Guys on front desk managed to find kettle and were v helpful .
Parked right outside room

Sadly the walls are thin and mouse from other rooms disturbed us esp their use of light switches and bathroom use

We stayed in one of the heritage rooms for 4 nights. Be mindful that the property facing rooms, gives you a great view of the carpark and nothing else. Even though we stayed 4 nights, we never got fresh towels or any replenishments/cleaning of the room.

The grounds are beautiful. The property is 45 mins from Jasper town and 10 minutes away from Hinton.

Staff were helpful and nice.

Very friendly staff, beautiful view, restaurant served delicious food. Room was average but clean. Highway noise was a big distraction despite the hotel playing (pretty good) music to distract you from 18 wheelers blasting by.
It would be nice if the mini fridge was not on the floor, too hard on my old knees getting down to grab a FMB. beer.
The view is worth mentioning twice, absolutely breathtaking.

Imagine this… you and your long time friend have been planning for months to do an internationally recognized multi-day hike in the stunning Jasper National Park. You know it will be a challenge so book a luxurious night at the Overlander Mountain Lodge as a reward after the hike.

Prior to starting on the trail and leaving cell service, you call and speak to the Overlander staff to make dinner reservations for 7:00 on the day of your return. You spend two glorious days testing your physical limits climbing for kilometre after kilometre being rewarded by stunning views of the peaks and meadows of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. As you near the end, 45 km later, knees aching, legs burning, feet blistered you turn to the thought of a hot shower, soft bed and delicious meal at the Overlander to get you through the last 2 km.

You arrive at you car and cell service once more to find several messages from the Overlander. Are the congratulating you on your effort and welcoming you later that evening? No. They are not. They are informing you that there was a issue with your credit card, which they have tried to charge, prior to your arrival, and have now cancelled your reservation, booked someone else in your room and have left you stranded with nowhere to stay. On a Saturday. In August. In Jasper National Park. They claim that “you should have had cell service” to return their call and that there is nothing they can do.

It is widely known that there is little to no service in the majority of the mountain parks. Apparently the Overlander MOUNTAIN Lodge is unaware of this or does not care.

Even without the mountains cell service is not always available. It is not available on flights, or sometimes is unreliable when travelling depending on partner service providers.

Anyone who has a credit card knows that it can get flagged and charges put on hold until you contact the company. This happens regularly, especially when unusual purchases related to travel appear. These are not unique circumstances and certainly no reason to cancel a reservation.

My only hope is that the staff at the Overlander saw our local Alberta address and thought that we did not deserve the level of service that international travellers get. I would be ashamed and embarrassed as an Albertan and a Canadian if this is how guests are treated when visiting our incredible Rocky Mountains.

We were thankful to get a cancelled room at The Crestwood Hotel in Hinton. The staff there were pleasant, the rooms were clean and the showers were hot.

Dear Guest, I have replied to the guest you were travelling with (Kathyrn). I truly want to apologize for the miscommunication with the credit card information. I feel terrible that you were not able to enjoy a stay at the Overlander Mountain Lodge that you had planned. This is certainly a unique situation were the Front Desk is tasked to ensure a valid credit card is on each reservation to collect the room and taxes. I would like to make it up to you on a future stay. You can connect with me directly 7808662330. Sincerely, Tim

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely weekend at OML and took advantage of the Mountain Getaway Package for two nights. It included a two night stay in a mountain view room, a tasty three course dinner for two, a hot breakfast for two each morning and an in-room bottle of wine for our pleasure and leisure.

We have to say that we throughly appreciated the fantastic staff at the bar and restaurant during our stay. A big thank you to Michael as he was more than accommodating to us and it was a pleasure chatting with him while we were there :) Our dining experiences were fantastic! Although the dining area was small and limited for space, the gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains made up for it all ~ sipping cocktails by the fire before dinner and a delicious dinner itself was well worth the visit. We highly recommend a visit to dine here đź’Ż In addition, we enjoyed our evenings sitting around the fire place listening to the crackling of the wood burning and chatting with fellow vacationers ~ overall we had a wonderful two night stay!

We will say that given the fact that this building was originally built in 1963 and renovated over the years, it certainly holds some nostalgia to it :) As mentioned previously, we had a mountain view room on the second level in the main lodge and the view was breathtaking! Having said that, we do think that a little TLC could go into the upstairs rooms. Some touch ups and new carpeting would go a long way and make these rooms a little more appealing to future guests ~ keeping in mind that we can only can speak of the room that we were in as we never seen the inside of the additional cabins around the property. We did think that the fireplace was a nice touch and appreciated the private balcony as well :))

The property itself is quite nice and we would have loved to explore it more but our time was taken up with outdoor activities in the nearby town of Jasper ~ hopefully we will do so if/when we decide on a future stay again.

Last but not least, in regards to the traffic noise at times. I do agree with others that it could potentially get a little noisy at moments but we did not notice it too much at all as the building is not directly next to the highway. It is far away enough not to have that as a major issue; in our opinion at least :)

Overall, we thank OML for their hospitality and fantastic service! We hope to see you again soon

We stayed at the Overlander for two nights after the August Long Weekend in Cabin 10. Our room was clean minus a web in a floor corner, had plenty of towels, a desk and two chairs, mini fridge etc. As per other reviews you can hear guests in the rooms next to you, but that is common for many places. If you wish to avoid that spend the money on a chalet with no attached accommodations.

Staff on the property are extremely friendly. The servers at the restaurant are very professional and serve similar to high end dinning. The food is outstanding and if this was a review just for the chef he would get 5 stars. Drinks from the bar are also amazing and the wine list is extensive.

The feedback for improvement is that staff should be knowledge about the trails. The front desk gives you a map of the trails right from the property, yet no one could tell us anything about them! We asked 6 different staff members and no one had any idea of what went where or what conditions the trails were in. This is a pretty big fail considering why people head to the Jasper area.
The other huge disappointment was the first night they were full for dinner reservations. This left us scrambling. We had just come from Jasper and did not want to drive the 40 minutes back, and Hinton was 20 minutes away. Overlander should advise all guests when booking that dinner may be full and that reservations are strongly recommended. We’ve never been to a place where they could not accommodate all guests for dinner. We were not even offered room service as an option, yet the next night we heard someone order it. The person at the front desk could have told us we had that option. I would give Overlander 2 stars because of this, but am going with an average for the pros and cons.

The other interesting thing to note is we were billed wrong at a breakfast. We were given double our bill. It could have been a simple mistake but I read other reviews where this occurred, so please check over your bill before paying.

I would go back for a dinner for a special occasion. Otherwise, I may continue to book in Jasper when able.

From the outside, a beautiful house with a beautiful view and a nice terrace. Unfortunately, it is 50 km from Jasper, right on the road and the price-performance ratio is not right here. The rooms are OK and clean, but renovation is urgently needed. It feels like the original carpet and the original curtains from the 1950s are still there. We were served very nicely in the restaurant, the food was so-so.

We have had in the past great service and food experiences at the OVERLANDER. This year we have had two consecutive get away weekends with disappointing issues.
In September our booked dinner reservation was canceled due to a large yoga group. Upon questioning our already booked dinner reservation, Tim accommodated us to dine outside and we had to eat earlier. So, even though we had booked already, a larger groups needs superseded ours.
Second visit just occurred this week. We were looking forward to a great winter getaway, first night dinner was great, second night dinner we actually were unable to eat. A staff member said to make up for it, they would provide us with either a different dinner or breakfast, which we chose breakfast and were the charged for it.
The Covid protocols were not implemented as well as they should have been. Mask wearing by employees was inconsistent and the housekeeping was not communicated to us. We had to ask for extra towels etc... it enough was provided.
The room had warm water for the shower and bathroom sink did not drain properly.
As much as we love the mountain view room, the fact that we have now had two poor experiences we will not be returning.
We spent a great deal of money there, sadly customer service is not there.

The Overlander is a short distance from Jasper Park gates. You will need to purchase passes to the park. The park wardens at the gate will be able to give you information regarding the hiking trails. I know there are trails just inside the gates; however depending on your skill level and the distance you want to hike it's a good idea to check with them before you attempt the trails. Hope this helps.

I am not sure if there were kitchens in the lodge, we did not have a fridge in ours, only a coffee maker. Call the hotel, they were helpful when we booked. I hope this helps.
