Lodge is older and could use some updates, especially in the bathrooms, otherwise a pleasant stay with beautiful surroundings. The restaurant was a 5 star! Meals were excellent and first class service. Staff in all areas very pleasant and knowledgeable.

Property's Favourite Review
We had a wonderful stay in a cozy room facing the mountains. We enjoyed a delightful Anniversary dinner down in the dining room. The service was great. All the staff members were wonderful and helpful. We definitely will be back. We spent 2 nights. Beautiful property. Great for a romantic getaway.

We booked a room in the outside building. Room was ok, but not what you would expect at that price. But it seems to be normal in Jasper. We eared every movement from the neighbor rooms (yes rooms not room) There is no complementary water. The drive to Jasper for e.g. breakfast and/or dinner is long on the one side but on the other side on that way are the most animals to spot during your drive. They have some private/hotel trails, nice but the signs need to be renewed since we ended up in the midle of nowhere. The view is pretty nice, but not spectacular. Restaurant, ok. But not wow. Finally till today our deposit is not paid back. After 3.5 weeks and they make our banc guilty, why our banc said all ok on their side... I only would recommend if this is your last possibility for overnights in Jasper region.

DO NOT BOOK HERE! After a 47km back country hike (with no reception – like most of the back country in Jasper) we emerged sore, sweaty and excited for a hot shower and a fancy meal and short stumble back to our lodging. Unfortunately, at 5:45 pm on a Saturday, we returned to reception and learned the Overlander had cancelled our reservation. We had booked on booking.com and chosen to “Pay at the Property”. Booking.com allowed us to use a visa debit to reserve the room. We had also noted that we would arrive between 5-6pm. We had also called 2 days prior and left a message that we were heading out of reception for a few days and asked for a dinner reservation. They called back, having listened to the message, and offered 6 or 7pm for the reservation. It is a boutique hotel. They knew we planned to come. Apparently, although I cannot find ANY mention of this in the confirmation email, Overlander tries to run your card at 8am the day you plan to check in. Because it is a debit card when used offline, the transaction was declined. And because we had no reception we did not get their call. So instead of waiting until the time we stated we would arrive, they cancelled our room and sold it to someone else. So, If they plan to run the card that morning, they should only accept cards that CAN be run on their machines. ALSO, why are they doing that?? If we don’t cancel 2 days prior, booking.com will charge the FULL amount for the room if we do not show up. This type of charge made by a website will go through a visa debit, so they would have gotten their money if we didn’t show up. I am guessing they charged double for a last minute reservation. This is a scam. We ended up paying $300 (the same amount we had reserved the overlander for when we booked in January) to stay in a motel in Hinton, one of two rooms left in town. They treated us like gold, it was clean and comfy. I have stayed there before, and booked in advance, and it is usually around $150. I will be staying there from now own, it is called the Crestwood and I HIGHLY recommend you book there instead of here. Because we were hiking (crazy thing to do in Jasper?!?!) and because they decided to try to charge my debit card for the room that morning (why not wait until I am there, like the confirmation email explicitly stated that that you would) they cancelled our room, leaving us exhausted, hungry, angry, and scrambling to find somewhere to sleep. It was literally the most egregious customer service experience I have ever had and I beg you to book elsewhere – the risk of having to make last minute bookings is just too much! DO NOT BOOK HERE!

Response from General Manager, General Manager at Overlander Mountain Lodge
Responded Aug. 31, 2022
Dear Kathryn, I want to apologize for all the confusion and challenges you had with your reservation. We certainly would have loved to welcome you to the Overlander Mountain Lodge. One of the key responsibilities for the front desk is to ensure we have valid payment on file for all reservations. There were several attempts made before your arrival and of course the day of your arrival to receive a valid credit card for the Room and Taxes. Clearly you were not in an area where you can receive these messages. I would like to make it up to you in a future stay. You are welcome to call me directly - 7808662330 Sincerely, Tim

Imagine this… you and your long time friend have been planning for months to do an internationally recognized multi-day hike in the stunning Jasper National Park. You know it will be a challenge so book a luxurious night at the Overlander Mountain Lodge as a reward after the hike. Prior to starting on the trail and leaving cell service, you call and speak to the Overlander staff to make dinner reservations for 7:00 on the day of your return. You spend two glorious days testing your physical limits climbing for kilometre after kilometre being rewarded by stunning views of the peaks and meadows of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. As you near the end, 45 km later, knees aching, legs burning, feet blistered you turn to the thought of a hot shower, soft bed and delicious meal at the Overlander to get you through the last 2 km. You arrive at you car and cell service once more to find several messages from the Overlander. Are the congratulating you on your effort and welcoming you later that evening? No. They are not. They are informing you that there was a issue with your credit card, which they have tried to charge, prior to your arrival, and have now cancelled your reservation, booked someone else in your room and have left you stranded with nowhere to stay. On a Saturday. In August. In Jasper National Park. They claim that “you should have had cell service” to return their call and that there is nothing they can do. It is widely known that there is little to no service in the majority of the mountain parks. Apparently the Overlander MOUNTAIN Lodge is unaware of this or does not care. Even without the mountains cell service is not always available. It is not available on flights, or sometimes is unreliable when travelling depending on partner service providers. Anyone who has a credit card knows that it can get flagged and charges put on hold until you contact the company. This happens regularly, especially when unusual purchases related to travel appear. These are not unique circumstances and certainly no reason to cancel a reservation. My only hope is that the staff at the Overlander saw our local Alberta address and thought that we did not deserve the level of service that international travellers get. I would be ashamed and embarrassed as an Albertan and a Canadian if this is how guests are treated when visiting our incredible Rocky Mountains. We were thankful to get a cancelled room at The Crestwood Hotel in Hinton. The staff there were pleasant, the rooms were clean and the showers were hot.

Dear Guest, I have replied to the guest you were travelling with (Kathyrn). I truly want to apologize for the miscommunication with the credit card information. I feel terrible that you were not able to enjoy a stay at the Overlander Mountain Lodge that you had planned. This is certainly a unique situation were the Front Desk is tasked to ensure a valid credit card is on each reservation to collect the room and taxes. I would like to make it up to you on a future stay. You can connect with me directly 7808662330. Sincerely, Tim

I booked 2 Rooms at the Overlander Hotel, one in the Main Building and one in the Miette Building. The room in the Miette was just awful for the price of almost $300 for the night. The bed and towels were clean but the furniture and bathroom had seen better days. There was mold in the grouting around the bath. The curtains were old and shabby and faded. The room in the main building was in better shape, but furniture was very old and dated. So spending over $630 for the one night for 3 people was extortion considering the conditions of the rooms. The photos of the hotel made it appoear very cosy and inviting but was not the case. The staff were very friendly and accomodating.

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. I can certainly acknowledge that some updates to the rooms are necessary and can assure you this process has begun! If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Sincerely, Tim

My wife and I had the privilege of staying this past weekend! One of the best experiences we have had in a long time. The whole time we were there was wonderful. A special shout out to Chris who works the front desk. Couldn't ask for better service than he provided. The whole group of staff were beyond exceptional and we will definitely be going again.

Overlander was a great little place to stay. Although the grounds were smaller than I thought and there were some private homes on the property, the restaurant and room were lovely and private. Our room was clean, fully stocked and spacious. The breakfast was great and the view was amazing. Would stay again!

We stayed at the Overlander for two nights after the August Long Weekend in Cabin 10. Our room was clean minus a web in a floor corner, had plenty of towels, a desk and two chairs, mini fridge etc. As per other reviews you can hear guests in the rooms next to you, but that is common for many places. If you wish to avoid that spend the money on a chalet with no attached accommodations. Staff on the property are extremely friendly. The servers at the restaurant are very professional and serve similar to high end dinning. The food is outstanding and if this was a review just for the chef he would get 5 stars. Drinks from the bar are also amazing and the wine list is extensive. The feedback for improvement is that staff should be knowledge about the trails. The front desk gives you a map of the trails right from the property, yet no one could tell us anything about them! We asked 6 different staff members and no one had any idea of what went where or what conditions the trails were in. This is a pretty big fail considering why people head to the Jasper area. The other huge disappointment was the first night they were full for dinner reservations. This left us scrambling. We had just come from Jasper and did not want to drive the 40 minutes back, and Hinton was 20 minutes away. Overlander should advise all guests when booking that dinner may be full and that reservations are strongly recommended. We’ve never been to a place where they could not accommodate all guests for dinner. We were not even offered room service as an option, yet the next night we heard someone order it. The person at the front desk could have told us we had that option. I would give Overlander 2 stars because of this, but am going with an average for the pros and cons. The other interesting thing to note is we were billed wrong at a breakfast. We were given double our bill. It could have been a simple mistake but I read other reviews where this occurred, so please check over your bill before paying. I would go back for a dinner for a special occasion. Otherwise, I may continue to book in Jasper when able.

Sadly had a room in the Miette building- it’s tired and more like a mediocre at best more. No insulation between rooms so you can everything, room smelled of must and age. Needs a complete overhaul. Way overpriced. I would give the chalets a go- and the deck in the main building is stunning. Sadly the room was very disappointing
