The Forest Park Hotel has received mixed reviews, with guests praising its cleanliness and convenient location, despite being a bit removed from the downtown hustle. However, the value for money has been called into question, as some travelers consider it overpriced given the dated rooms and lackluster amenities. Detailed Reviews
We have been coming to the Sawridge for well over 15 yrs, the service has slowly been declining. Breakfast is basically what other hotels offer for free, they charge $20/person unless you order a voucher in advance which is $13. Can go to Becker’s for $16 and way better. Room service does not replenish coffee or cups unless specifically asked, and even then they sometimes just ignore you. The pool used to have seating and now they have three plastic lawn chairs and that’s it. The parking lot was a disaster, you could barely park because of the amount of ruts and ice, and it was crazy dangerous for kids to walk on. No other lots on jasper looked this way. The rooms are run down, showers go between scalding and freezing, things falling out of ceilings in bathroom, sinks chipped. For the price they charge I would look elsewhere, thinking we will try the Crimson instead as it’s closer to downtown and is renovated.

Dear Suth79, Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent experience with us; I am sorry to hear your stay was not as expected. We make every effort to offer a healthy plentiful breakfast that all of our guests can enjoy. Coffee is an essential part of my day and part of the job of our housekeeping team is to replenish coffee/ cups daily; this was an oversight on their part and I will speak to them to make sure they are move careful. As for our parking lot, we unfortunately had a very large rain storm this year in early Feb. which caused for an icing mess throughout the town. We did work with our local contractors to remove the ice from all of our properties which took a number of days (over a week) and only one company offering this service. We are looking to replace beds in April of this year with additional renovations on the horizon, in the National Park this does take time so at this point I do not have a date for this project. I thank you for choosing to stay with us and look forward to upcoming changes at the property and welcoming you back soon. Warm Regards, Nadine McIsaac

+1
This is a very sub par hotel and not my ideal type of accommodation however at the price, it is very affordable and fine as we were basically in our room just to sleep. It is a very dated hotel however they did a good job at renovating the rooms and updating features in the rooms. When we walked in, I knew instantly why there were no pictures of the bathrooms online...this was one area of the room that was not updated and is quite small (even for a hotel washroom). There was also garbage on the floor from the previous stay, hair on the pillows and just an overall dirty, dusty feeling.
The two parts of the room that were quite off putting for me were both the smell or the room and the fact that there was zero access to fresh air as our window faced into the indoor courtyard of the hotel. When I asked, there were no “outside” rooms to move to and the only suggested solution the front desk staff could offer was to “spray the room with room freshener”. I will say we had friends who stayed in a room in the floor below and there was no smell so maybe it was a third floor issue.
Although I would not stay at this hotel again, it was a decent stay and I know my family was treated quite well when they had to change their booking which was nice of them to accommodate.

Hello Ncaughey, Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I am sorry things were not perfect during your stay. You are correct that our bedrooms have been renovated but not the bathroom portion. We hope to change that up in the next few years. We do have balcony rooms that are definitely our most popular room type, sorry we did not have an upgrade option available for you during your stay Warm Regards, Nadine McIsaac

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
My partner and I stayed here for two nights as we were part of a wedding happening in the hotel. The check in process was very easy, and accessibility to our room was good. Upon entering, you are hit with the smell of chlorine from the pool at the other end of the open main area. There are plenty of signs to provide direction to where you would like to go, and the rustic decor fits in perfectly against the backdrop of the mountains. We stayed in a balcony suite with two queen beds. The mattresses are quite firm but comfortable. Amenities included the usual toiletries (shampoo, conditioning shampoo, body wash), along with a makeup remover wipe. There is a Keurig in the room with four pods (two decaf, two regular), and an electric kettle with two English Breakfast tea bags. The breakfast buffet at Walter's is delicious, and priced reasonably at around $22/plate. Unfortunately, there is currently construction happening to expand the hotel, so our balcony view was impaired by the sight of the construction, and you could hear the sound of hammering reverberating throughout the hallway leading to rooms ranging around 240-272. I also found our suite to be quite warm both nights, which led to me waking up a few times during my sleep. Overall, this was a pleasant stay and I would come back.

Hotel's Favourite
My favourite Hotel to stay at in Jasper. Everything is wonderful at this hotel, you will not be disappointed.
The pool is warm to swim in and the hot tub is one of the hottest I have ever been in.
Rooms are great and spacious. Beds are all new and very comfortable-you will have a good sleep.
My favourite is watching the elk rest and eat at the field located beside the hotel.
The only thing bad is the location, the furthest hotel from the city centre, which is 10-15 minutes walk away compared to other hotels in Jasper.

Welcomed at the Front Desk with "ID and credit card" request, no cordial greeting. The room was decent though dated. Found a long hair in the fridge and hair in the bathtub. Asked the FD what were the enhanced cleaning protocols being used in the rooms due to COVID, the agent was not aware and could not speak to this. Moved to another room which was inspected but then I found small hairs on the toilet. Ending up using Lysol to clean and disinfect the hot spots in the room myself as I wasn't comfortable with the precautions that were taken. Had a nice view from the room. The agent at checkout was quite cordial/apologetic and removed the 35.00 pet fee in an effort to make amends.

Hello 148perrys, Thank you for taking the time to post about your experience with us. The start to an enjoyable stay and experience is a warm welcome, sorry you did not receive this. Apologies for the less than perfect room as well, our covid procedures are outlined in the guest room and include sanitation of all high touch areas (remote, light switches etc), masks and gloves worn by our cleaning team and more. I hope you were able to enjoy Jasper and all it has to offer Warm Regards, Nadine McIsaac

We stayed 2 nights, first night we checked in, the hotel seemed slow but no parking available. We took our son down to the pool and hot tub(7pm) there was another family of 4 swimming, the floor was very grimy dirty ( slippery, slimy) there were no towels available, so we snuck to the gym to borrowed towels, there were only hand towels. We decided to make the best of it and jumped in to the pool and enjoy ourselves, just before 8pm we were approached and told the pool area closed to the kids at 8:00 and we had to leave it is adult swim only from 8:30-10 kind of upsetting but ok. We headed to our room for a good nights rest as we were skiing the next day, the noise from the common area (hallway) was quite loud in our room, I went to the bathroom and rolled a towel up and placed it on the floor in front of the door. At 11 my husband stepped out into the hall where there were 5 adults sitting on the floor with snacks and drinks visiting and asked them to keep the noise down a bit. I’m not sure what time the noise quit but it was exhausting. The next morning we headed out to ski for the day, we came straight back to the hotel for our son to be able to swim and hoped to have a nice soak in the hot tub. When we arrived to the pool area the hot tub had been drained and was closed for maintenance, my husband called the front desk to ask what was going on and we were told that we could walk a block down to another hotel and use their outdoor hot tub 😳 if we would have known that there was no pool or hot tub for our stay we would have booked else where. One of the reasons we chose the Sawridge was for the indoor pool and hot tub, we would have even appreciated finding out upon check in that the hot tub was going to be down, we could have booked a different hotel for the second night. Parking is very tight for a full sized truck and I would prefer not to park on the main roadway into town. I doubt we will book again as we stay in jasper a few times each season and have had a nicer more comfortable stay for less a few other lodges or the inn.

Hello GPKNichols, Thank you for taking the time to post a review. My sincere apologies for inconveniences you experienced while a guest with us. This past week we did experience a maintenance issue with our hot tub that required immediate fixing, however our pool remained open during this quick fix. I am sorry we did not communicate that properly as well the alternate outdoor tub should also have been explained better as it is located next door. For the noise in the halls we do have staff on 24 hours a day and they would be happy at anytime to advise guests to respect the stay of other guests and return to their rooms. Sorry someone on our team did not catch this during rounds of the property. I do hope you will re-consider us on your next visit to Jasper as this is not the norm for our property. Kind Regards, Nadine McIsaac

This is my first stay at a hotel since COVID-19. We were concerned with the virus, but felt safe to go ahead with the trip after the manager offered us a room that would be vacant for a couple of days before our arrival. We felt even safer after we checked in: there are wide and open stairs meant for distancing (although build long time ago); the hall way is also wide. We never had to pass anyone in 3 meters, even it was fully booked for the weekend.
As a Marriott elite member, I have stayed at many average too luxury hotels including suites (I occasionally stay with other hotels when Marriott hotels are not available, which is the case for Jasper). I would say that I am happy with the room (#369) and hotel in general: bathroom looks good and spacious, desk is big, coffee machine (k-cup) is clean and new. I also like the hotel design that matches the mountain style of the town.
I do understand Jasper is expensive, because it is within the national parks (Federal government must collect huge rental for the use of land). I paid ~650$ for 3 nights, which was actually a little cheaper than I expected. I also understand all business suffered big losses during COVID-19. They experience extra cost.

The location is amazing as it’s the first hotel as you come in to Jasper, it’s a easy 15 minute walk to the main area of Jasper and a couple pubs/bars to grab a drink a long the way. Pet friendly as well and that was a plus for my friends that brought there dogs. They have a nice pool as well as a spa area you can book. Laundry machines on site as well helps to clean while on vacation without breaking the bank

You pay the price of a posh European boutique hotel but what you get is at best a best western kind of room. The shower is from another era, where the shower head feels like a drill on your skin and the faucets are about to break when you use them. A good shower head is cheap nowadays so I don’t know what’s their excuse. The room smelled of strong chemicals I was afraid we would get a headache the morning after. The rest of the hotel also feels from the 50s with worn out carpets and chlorine fumes from the indoor pool. The staff was super nice however. They didn’t clean the room in between our nights because of covid but then again, all the hotels we went in Alberta managed to do it so if they can’t provide you the full service they should offer you a discount. The hotel is a 20min walk from the heart of Jasper town so this is also a downside. This hotel is best for families because of the pool but for couples it’s somewhat a turn off.

Dear EmmanThibo, Thank you for an honest review. I was happy to read your comments about our friendly staff. However, I am disappointed to read that we did not meet your expectations during your stay with us. Your review is very important to us and we read every single one. Please be confident that we have heard your concerns and I will be following up with the appropriate departments so that we may take necessary action to improve our operations. Regarding the smell in your room, I hope you were able to notify the front desk of this issue. We would have been happy to find you a solution as your comfort is of our utmost priority. Currently, we are not providing a housekeeping stayover service to help keep you and our staff safe during these unprecedented times. However, we do have someone at the front desk 24/7 and would gladly have any additional amenities delivered to your room if requested. We appreciate your understanding. Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing the Sawridge Inn as your Jasper getaway. We hope you will give our hotel consideration in the future. Kind Regards, Bronson Albano Guest Services Manager

The Sawridge is a pretty standard Jasper accommodation, but as one of the cheapest in town, it offers great value, especially considering the current discount offered for Alberta residents if you book on the Jasper site. Check in staff was helpful and professional, COVID measures were followed, interior courtyard looks nice with the big fireplace in the middle, room was pretty standard but nothing to complain about. The wall paintings of local scenery were tasteful. When we asked for extra coffee and a few other things, they brought it immediately. Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a better room with a outside-facing balcony, so we really appreciated that. We even saw a group of elk from the balcony one morning! Would have loved to use the pool/hot tub, but we understand the hotel is just following current restrictions. One thing to note: it's the first property when you drive into town, so it's a little far to walk into town for shopping/dining. In summer it would be fine, but with young kids and super cold weather when we visited, we just drove. Not a problem as there is lots of parking in town.

Dear Sherpa62715,
Thank you for your message. We have a laundry area available to our guests at our hotel itself. However, there is only one wash machine and one dryer. Washing detergent is also available free of charge in our laundry area. There is a couple of public laundry facilities in Jasper town, just 5 minutes driving distance from our hotel should you need one.

Thank you for inquiring and we look forward to seeing you in the future.
