LOVE the soft and fluffy pillows! I travel with my own as hotel pillows are usually hard too high and ungiving.
The mattress was also very comfortable and sheets soft.
The rooms facilities were of the same quality and better than other more expensive hotels I’ve stayed in recently (eg halifax Marriott) and the service infinitely better (e.g Palmer house Chicago). Have not stayed in a Best Western recently. The quality and value were excellent ! Highly recommend

I stayed at the hotel as we were doing flight training classes in the area The hotel was clean and quiet
It is in an excellent location near the island highway for easy access

I was traveling with my dog The pet rooms and rate for traveling with pets was good There is a large grass area out front and away from the main entrance where she could be let out to play

There is a Tim Hortons next door for convenience if one has to be on the road prior to breakfast being served at 7 am

I will stay here again when we are back on Vancouver Island

My husband and I stayed here for one week. We usually stay at Hilton Properties, but as none were here in Duncan we booked into The Best Western.
The Staff are amazing. From receptionists to housekeeping, everyone had time for their guests.
I was very pleased with the way this particular Best Western is being run.
The hotel it’s self is a bit dark, and has that “ old dusty carpet” smell. In the 3rd floor elevator area , apart from that. I was very satisfied.
House keeping is “ On demand” just inform the front desk when you’d like clean towels or a full house cleaning service.
The cleanliness of the rooms ( especially the bed) is MY top priority. I was Not disappointed. The people who run this hotel are very well trained . Especially a gentleman housekeeper from India, by the name of Venki. (I hope I spelled his name right.) He was excellent. And did a wonderful job.
If ever we come back on Business to Duncan BC we WILL stay here again.
If Best western hotels company gave this property some help redecorating, it could easily come up to being a 4 star hotel. Simply because of the hotel Staff.

We were here in July on business. I wrote a glowing report on this small 3 star hotel. This time not so good.
We are here on business once more and from the minute we arrived, we have not been happy, seeing as this IS a business trip we have no other choice but to stay here. Last time the hotel was under renovations. And 5 months later it is a mess. Reception was very very slow to check us in. We had to wait 3 hours.
The TV in our room doesn't work. The room smells stale and dusty.
Their redeeming quality is the helpful staff in housekeeping, and the staff in the restaurant /bar. Very pleasant.
The breakfast room leaves a lot to be desired. As does the food. Today there was Sausages bubbling away in grease, and dried up scrambled eggs . Served in a small room in the basement. The elevator was not working so i had to use the stairs.
I am very disappointed this time. What happened? And all this in only One day. I hope everything improves before we leave in 3 days

Dear Valued Guest, I would like to sincerely apologize for the disappointing experience you encountered during your recent stay with us. We understand how important a comfortable and smooth stay is, especially when you are traveling for business, and we deeply regret that we did not meet your expectations this time. We value your feedback, and it is important to us that we improve based on your observations. Overall the room was fine but there is a musty smell when we first got in. The staff was great when making reservation but when we tried calling three times for towels no one at the desk answered the phone.

Our truck trunk got broken into overnight was a bit disappointing and frightening. Glad that nothing valuable was taken.

Pool was on hotel property but we need to walk there and cross the front entrance. There is a hole in the fence to the pool. Maybe broken into or an animal got into the pool that way?

Room rate seems very high as well. We did overheard the people next to us got a room rate $80 less than us. Which was disappointing but I understand how hotel works.

I would not return due to the security issue.

The hotel is located within an easy drive to downtown Duncan - and the Big Stick as we were there to watch Cowichan Capitals hockey for the weekend. We were able to check into our room about a 1/2 hour before the published check-in time which we appreciated after an early morning flight to get to the island. Breakfast included. There was a promising massage chair in the lounge (but we didn't fit a try in!). There is also a restaurant/bar onsite. Lots of other good food choices in Duncan as well.

We accidentally booked the reservation for the same day which was later in the afternoon, that we were attempting to make reservations for ten days later. When we called, we got no answer. When we did finally communicate with the hotel manager, he said the hotel was completely booked but if he didn’t charge us for the rooms accidentally booked, and at the same time refused paying customers, he would lose money. So he charged us full rate. I spoke to the hotel manager, who said he will charge full rate less a 15% discount. We later learned the Corporate Best Western offered a 15% discount - so upon our stay, we received a 15% discount. We feel ripped off by the Cowichan Valley Best Western. Very unsafisfying.

The Best Western was everything I have come to expect from this hotel - friendly, helpful, clean and will definitely be back. The rooms have everything that one would wish for, toiletries, coffee, iron, ironing board, hair dryer. TV and most importantly comfortable beds. We were on the highway side of the hotel this year but not disturbed by traffic sounds at all.

When I booked I was advised that there would be a "full breakfast". When we got there i was handed paper slips with check boxes for "grab and go" which resembled a toddler's snack at daycare. Drink- water or juice box; hot item: oatmeal (that I need to find hot water for myself) and a "chimichanga" etc.
Every other hotel we stayed at during our trip through BC had actual breakfast options. Some were continental style, some were through room service and restaurant but every single one had a decent breakfast.
This aspect alone was really surprising to me in a bad way.

We had been hung up getting into town and checked in late. The people we spoke with were really disinterested in talking to us and didn't explain much.
The hotel is really showing wear and felt tired, stuffy and worn out. I know covid is a thing as it has been everywhere but we were really happy we didn't end up having to stay longer than we did.
For the same price we could have stayed elsewhere with full breakfast, pool, water views and a large room rather than a shoebox that smelled mouldy with a barely working AC and a view of the highway.
These are all things we have told those who asked. The one saving factor was the girl I spoke to upon check out. She was pleasant, efficient and helpful.

The most expensive best western we stayed at on the island (used the most reward points). Very disappointed in this stay, heated pool was cold and dirty, hallways and room above noisy. One of our room doors didn’t seal properly so it was noisy and bright all night long. Bathroom counter so small you basically have to put your stuff on the toilet. Breakfast was not appetizing (soggy frozen waffles for you to toast). Just overall not happy with choosing this best western stay.

There is a restaurant and lounge attached which serves awesome appetizers, meals and drinks. We liked it so much we went there both nights we stayed. I am not sure about other ones though.

Unless your RV is a small motorhome, I would say no. However, I would call the hotel and get a more definitive answer.

Hello Lisa, My name is Bonnie and I just recently took over management of the Trip Advisor page for this hotel :). I am the current operations manager here and I just wanted to say that indeed, the review response previously made in the post you mentioned was very appalling! Management has completely changed since 2015. We are sincerely sorry that the review response online contributed to your decision to not stay with us. But one thing I can say with absolute confidence is that our family of staff here are absolutely wonderful and we will continue to aim for superior customer service in all areas! I know this answer is so late to when you posted, but we sincerely hope you will consider us in the near future. Warmly, Bonnie
