The motel is located right on the Trans Canada Highway which is very convenient for me to get back and continue my ride. There are a lot of restaurants in the area within walking distance. The room is clean with comfy bed. It’s good to crash for one night. I was surprised that it’s so quiet eventhough it’s right next to the Highway. There is laundry service. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only problem is that WiFi is super weak when I’m in my room. It’s very good value.

Sparkling clean rooms and very friendly staff are the high points of this small motel. It's easy to find, being right next to the Trans-Canada hwy nearer the east end of Kamloops. Fast-food joints, restaurants and gas stations are close by, and there's even a quirky, but servicible laundry that saved us in a pinch. The motel is older and somewhat worn, but remember you get what you pay for and at $80 total for the night for 2 queen beds, 2 people, my dog and taxes, you can't complain that the blankets and chairs had seen better days. The beds were comfortable enough. There's a microwave and mini-fridge in the room, a little table with chairs and a fair-sized TV (that we didn't watch, so no comment on that or available channels). The wifi worked better than at a lot of places I've stayed at, so I was happy.
There's a steam room and hot tub, which the staff at the front desk can unlock for you. We didn't use them either, so can't share more than that.
Bathrooms have been recently renovated which was nice, but with no grab bars it was a bit stressful getting my disabled daughter in and out of the shower/tub combo.
There's a wee playground out front for the younger set.
If you are looking for a cheap, clean, pet-friendly place to spend the night, then the Lamplighter is worth a try. :-)

We were pleasantly surprised with our room. Fairly quiet, king bed, lovely bathroom, free wiifii. Even though we were near the tracks and trains ran all night - we barely heard them. The only drawback was to keep the room cold enough with the AC we had to endure a very loud fan even on the low setting. Overall though, pleasant hosts, good price, good amenities.

Got a deal online - 3 nights for $151.00. Showed up and they said that was a mistake and that price was for 1 night.. even after i showed my receipt (I will try to post in the comments) The office was closed in the morning so couldn't even talk to anyone at the front desk. I wen't back to the room the following evening and walked in on a stranger. So they not only price gouged me but they re-booked the room. Anyways, i still have the key, i suppose if they want it back- they can contact me.. with a refund.

You get what you pay for spend the little extra and go for a brand name hotel/motel. Bathroom is beyond small step into tub to close the door. Beds are uncomfortable and the AC unit did not work. Windows don’t open so can’t even let in a cool breeze. The only good thing is the office staff was a nice guy. So disappointed because we had stayed here in the past and had a good stay then.

We stayed here a couple of times in the past and were fine with the below small, plain and less than glamorous appeal for the cheap price. The people at the front desk are very nice, cleaning ladies are a little shy but will clean when you ask or leave at appropriate time. We made another stop there last month and stayed the night, I didn't do a thorough scan of the room since it was late and was tired. The next morning I got the room cleaned and came back to a clean room. I don't know if it was present before I checked in or if it arrived after cleaning but a needle (syringe) was by the bed on the floor. If it was there before i got it cleaned, then the thoroughness of her cleaning is seriously scary. We were disgusted and freaked out. Will never return, unfortunate but I wouldn't risk it with that negligence in god knows how many ways.

Don't be fooled by the look or location when you first drive up or by the unorganized front desk, this is an excellent value when traveling through Kamloops. We spent one night here on our way to Vancouver coming from Jasper. Did not check out the sauna/spa.

Pros:
- Bang for your buck
- Newly renovated with new paint, flatscreen tv
- Great insulation, did not hear neighbors or train
- Free wifi
- Microwave and fridge
- Convenient location off freeway, Starbucks next door to grab breakfast and coffee for the road

Cons:
- Some furniture still needs updating
- Lose the ugly, unsanitary bedspread
- Update bath fixtures, broken off knobs difficult to pull/push

We had stayed at this motel years ago, and I wasn't much looking forward to staying there again, but the sign outside said it had been renovated so we decided to try it.
While the bathroom was still very small, the entire room had been redone. The carpet was clean, new paint, new curtains and new furniture. There was a flat screen TV as well as a small fridge and microwave.

We got a room with a king bed, and it was very comfortable. On top of all this, the price was very reasonable for Kamloops in August. (The reason we didn't stay at the place we usually stay in Kamloops was that the price DOUBLED since our last stay there, which was in April 2011).

This is not a luxury accommodation to be sure, but for a reasonably priced modest motel, it was great. Because we were so surprised at the changes made to the Lamplighter - it may just become our "usual" overnight stay in Kamloops.

Close enough to all amenities, as Kamloops is a small enough city that anywhere is really only 10 minutes away - restaurants nearby for a quick breakfast too.

"Ask for a renovated room. There are trains and road noise as they are just off the highway. Sometimes the fan or AC will cover it. We usually leave the fan in the bathroom on all night to muffle it."
