In the last 2 years we have visited the ranch on several occasions and we feel quite at home there. We have met a lot of interesting people from all over the world. Stump is such a comfortable place to be. Lisa and Matt make everyone feel at home while at the same time treating us all as if we were royalty. We have invited many of our friends from Europe and Canada to share our love of this place and they were not disappointed. There are various levels of riding and the wranglers are very good at choosing a horse with the perfect disposition for each guest. I was quite frightened of horses due to a scary experience I had many years ago and the girls helped me overcome my fear by inspiring a great deal of confidence and of course offering a lot of patience. I could not have done it without their help, love, understanding and sense of humour. They have an enormous knowledge of and respect for horses.

If you fancy a spot of horse riding in rolling open countryside, maybe canoeing or fishing on a peaceful scenic lake, you enjoy good wholesome home cooking, and you like to sleep in a quiet private log bungalow – then book yourself into Stump Lake Ranch, you will love it.

My wife and I did a search on Google to find ourselves a ranch holiday and came up with Stump Lake. It looked good on the web site, so we booked and stayed for a few days in August 2005, as part of our two week vacation in Canada.

The ranch is next to the 5A, half way between Kamloups and Merritt. Not surprisingly it is set next to Stump lake amidst hundreds of acres of picturesque rolling hills. They have a central guest house which has some bedrooms as well as the kitchen, dining areas, lounge, patio gardens and outdoor entertaining areas. In the grounds are various well appointed log cabins. Our was next to a running stream, and was large, well furnished, and in a very private and quiet spot.

The main activity centres around the horse riding, you get a 2-3 hour ride each day included in the rate. They have a fantastic stable of wonderful horses, catering from complete beginner (me) up to very proficient riders. On the first morning I was straight on my horse called Chester. Within minutes we were off up the hill, in our small group. Our wrangler was very knowledgeable and experienced, and gave us all the tuition and advice we needed. The pace was as slow or as fast as we needed it to be. The ranch provides stunning scenary, and an ideal location for the horse riding. By day two I was confident enough to trott regularly, and I even managed to stop Chester from gobbling up all the purple flowers along the trails, by means of some assertive yanks on the reigns.

The managers are a young couple, and what a fantastic job they do. We felt more like friends of theirs visting their home, rather than just hotel guests. They, and all the other staff were perfect hosts.

All meals are included, which were very tasty, varied, and substantial.

The ranch has its own boat house on the lake, with a variety of boats and canoes. We took a canoe onto the lake and had a gentle paddle, which was very relaxing.

Families are particularly well catered for at the ranch. Some the kids staying whilst we were there wanted to do summer jobs, they loved it so much.

I really enjoyed our stay here, and strongly recommend it.
