Detailed Reviews
We were apprehensive about being put on the ground floor, but our room was actually quite quiet. Beds were comfy and air con worked, but not strong enough for the length of the room. We had to push a pillow against the curtains to get the air to blow out and not up into the window.
Our first morning, I noticed hairs in the shower surround while taking my shower. Not sure why in these times, proper cleaning is not taking place. I mentioned this to the older lady behind the desk who just said “okayyy” …. “Okayyy” while I explained the situation. No apology or saying we’ll get that cleaned for you. I had to ask for it to be cleaned. I said thank you and she said you’re welcome like she was doing me a big favour.
The redeeming factor is the lady who is working her ass off in the kitchen for breakfast. She is doing a two person job by herself. We made sure to leave her a large tip.
We wished we had stayed closer to down town are but the location was good enough.

We quite enjoyed our stay in room 314. Room was very spacious and had a big balcony. View was another building but that didn't bother us. We enjoyed the breakfast, egg omelet, sausages, waffles, toast, bagels, fruit, yogurt etc. The usual continental hotel breakfast. Free parking, smooth check in and out. Clean hotel and central location. Beds were comfy. No complaints here

I usually prefer to stay in hotels with more amenities but Nanaimo does not have such hotels. So although this would not be my initial choice, I must admit, it was easily accessible, clean, friendly. Of course its amenities are limited but if you just wish to stay somewhere without worrying about location and cleanliness, this is a good and financially very viable option

To say it was my worst hotel experience is an understatement. Upon arrival we were notified that we could not pay with cash. However, it took the front desk staff 2 hours to let us know we could use a debit card to pay for the hotel room. In which time we were refused the ability to have a third party pay for the hotel via credit card. We were told we were not allowed to use our Ramada rewards without any explanation given. Finally, after the longest check in of my life we arrived in our rooms. The next morning the breakfast was great the first day, then everyday until our last day they were missing something from their breakfast, at one point they only had waffles, bagels and cereal. So beware if you can't eat gluten there really isn't a complimentary breakfast option for the majority of your stay. Aside from inconsistent breakfast options there was also inconsistent services provided. Everyday was a toss up as to what the housekeeping was going to clean. Some days our beds were made, some days one bed was made, others neither beds were made. There never seemed to be a pattern of when the vacuuming happened and more than once our shower was cleaned when it wasn't used and not cleaned when it was. The second room we had rented had a broken air conditioner that never fully got fixed. I had to get a new room key every few days because when I went to use them they did not work. Despite telling multiple staff the duration of our stay there was even at one point I had to go down 2 days in a row to get a new room key. We didn't have that problem with the other room so not quite sure why counting the same number twice and provide the same number of days on both sets of keys was so difficult for multiple members of the front desk staff. The finally topping on the cake was after we unfortunately had to extend our stay one more day I had to use their laundry room. Not only was it the most expensive laundry mat I have ever been to, $8 for dryer and washer, but when I took my clothes out of the wash they were covered in white sticky material. The front desk staff are not aware of all the amenities they offer and I had to educate a desk staff on my last day. She told me they didn't carry laundry bags, not only did I have to describe them I had to let her know I had received one the night before and insisted she take a look for them. All the staff, except for 1, were the only redeeming quality of this hotel. I absolutely loved every other staff member and it was close to the ferry. Carole in particular deserves an amazing shout out, she is such an amazing person inside and out. The second star is all for her, she deserves 5 stars everyday! I was excited to see her in the morning and missed her the 2 days she was off. However, I would never stay here again.

The security here is out of whack, and honestly makes me feel not that comfortable. And the rules - well, let me just say that there were fewer rules at the housekeeping room I had 50 years ago. As a few examples- No Visitors after 10 pm. Only one entrance to the hotel, and that door is looked. I had to go out to my car to retrieve something, just after 8 am, and the door was locked. If you do not hand in your key card when checking out, they will charge you for it. No idea how much, but they WILL CHARGE YOU FOR IT. I booked my room using points and the desk clerk was kind of dismissive and talked down to me. I travel a fair amount, and have never run into something like that. All in all, won't stay here again.
Also the remodeled bathroom, has an all in one tub/shower combo and the bathtub was rather hard to get into and out of. Some of the older travelers might also have difficulty lifting a leg high enough to get into and out of the shower.

Hotel and room were nice, but… The older woman at the front desk was incredibly rude, unhelpful, smarmy… just ugh, I don’t even know how to put our experience with her into words. It was 9 at night and we were told there is no other staff in the hotel so we wouldn’t get anyone to fix the air conditioning and there were no extra pillows in the entire hotel. It’s August 2nd, 28C outside, and hot in here. I’m pretty sure there’s a spare pillow kicking around as well, the hotel isn’t full. We have been staying at this hotel every year for at least 5 years when we stay in Nanaimo and don’t know what to think. We stay here mainly because my husband travels for work and his company uses this chain, but are seriously considering staying somewhere with working ac in the middle of the hot summer and where there is sufficient staff to help weary travellers next time we travel with our family to Nanaimo. Non-combative front desk staff would be nice too please 😅

The Ramada by Wyndham Nanaimo is disappointing in original and inventive ways. We will not be returning to this brand to see what else they can come up with, and we recommend you learn from our mistake!
The pillows in the room were 'half-sized'--not queen, not king, but something more suitable to a sofa cushion. It made for the worst sleep I have had in a hotel.
When we asked for additional pillows, the front desk was not able to bring them up because they were the only person there. We have never encountered a situation, from motels to boutique hotels, where there were not at least two people on staff at all times. Quite apart from being a ridiculously low standard of service, it's an unsafe workplace for the staff and shows the neglect which was apparent throughout the property during out stay.
There were a host of other problems we were too exhausted to follow up on a short and busy holiday trip: weak water pressure, a musty air conditioner, and a joke of a 'Ramada Mart' that amounted to a mostly-empty vending machine.
The staff were clearly doing their best in a hard situation, and as pleasant and helpful as they could be, but management are clearly neglecting the property and damaging the brand.

My wife leads one of our church choirs and arranging events for the entire group is a challenge, to say the least. Even with the insanity of the long weekend, the staff of the Ramada by Wyndham Nanaimo made our check in effortless and smooth. The hotel has lots of parking and good wifi. The rooms were spacious and clean. The facilities were in great condition. Our only regret was that there was no pool for the children, but that is minor, given the hotel's close proximity to all of Nanaimo's many facilities. The complimentary breakfast was a hit with our group, especially the waffles, crispy bacon and hot, fresh eggs. The kitchen staff was friendly, polite and very accommodating. All in all, the Ramada by Wyndham in Nanaimo is an excellent and affordable travel choice.

Beware, don’t book this hotel and if you do don’t have any expectations. This hotel is being run by nincompoops who are worse that fresh graduates. There is zero professionalism and next to no service. They won’t acknowledge your request or complaints and have a generic answer that we are not a 4star hotel, oh its middle of pandemic. They have advertised free breakfast whereas in reality though they have a restaurant for breakfast but they are not operating it or serving breakfast to cut cost. There is no staff except front desk after 4.00. I mean nobody, neither housekeeping nor a support staff. They have sign for mask mandatory, however none of the staff members including the manager was wearing one. The Jacuzzi is for namesake, the hotel lacks basic amenities and customer service is nonexistent. We had a lot of problems and it was a nightmare. The details of some of the major problems are below.
Visited the property on July 6 for one night. It was our anniversary and we were looking for some place with a Jacuzzi or a hot tub. Came across Ramada Nanaimo and Best Western Northgate. We opted for Ramada based on the reviews and room pictures (King Suite with Jacuzzi), the room we booked. We checked in at 5.00 PM and the check in was smooth and rooms were very well setup. It looked great on the onset and we were excited to be there, not knowing that it was our worst mistake to have booked here. There were multitude of problems with the management and the way run the hotel which in my opinion is no better than a motel or air bnb.
Problem 1: Jacuzzi for only the name sake.
I called up the front desk at 6.00 and requested for some bath robes, and some bubble bath/bath bomb anything that usually is provided at other places with use of in room Jacuzzi. To which I was told that they don’t have any of that. I was not impressed but chose not to do anything as we didn’t want spoil our mood.
Problem 2: King suite Amenities not present.
Though upset with Jacuzzi (as that was highlight of the trip and main reason we booked a suite room which $ 100 more than the base room) we decided to not let it spoil our mood. We decided to order in food and just chill in the Jacuzzi till then. I had bought a lovely wine along with some chocolate strawberries to celebrate the occasion and when I looked for some plates, glasses or cutlery in the room (Basic inclusions of a suite), none were present. Anyway I called up the front desk and requested for the same to which I was told that

My room was found unclean with with hair throughout the tub and sink. The pipes in the the bathroom groaned and shuddered all night. There was no continental breakfast but rather a brown bag with a bottle of water, fruit cup and a granola bar (total cost approximately $1) yet no reduction in the room rate.
