The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the room was clean and modern, and the breakfast was great! The location was very convenient when it came to dining and shopping options. The only thing we wished the property had was EV charging.

Lots of parking and a modern, clean hotel. Housekeeping is by request only. We were there for 2 nights so we simply asked for additional towels at the front desk. Microwave in the room was unexpected but turned out to be handy as we brought back baked items that were best warm! The hotel is nowhere near downtown. We were using the hotel as a jumping-off for points beyond Nanaimo so it worked out fine but if you are looking for a place that allows you to easily explore the historic downtown, this isn't it. Lots of pillow choices on the bed but I didn't strike gold!

We enjoyed staying at this hotel for many reasons.
The staff has always been great and the location is ideal for us.
Clean comfortable and quiet rooms every time.
The included breakfast is a fast and easy way to start our day.
My spouse has some food allergies and is able to enjoy breakfast here.
The value at the hotel is good. I gave it a 4/5 because I am always going to want a better deal

Please watch if you book thru the app this hotel charged me for my full stay as soon as I booked weeks in advance of stay and when I asked for a check out one day shorter than booked they would not credit me for the day. Stayed 9 days instead of ten. Other than this the hotel was clean and would have stayed again on future work / pleasure trips

An older Hotel that has had a lot of updates and Reno’s done to it since we last stayed here. The inside and outside is well kept. It is located very centrally in North Nanaimo with lots of stores and places to eat at close by. There is an amazing Korean place that only takes 10 minutes to walk to. Also walking distance to pretty much anything you would need. Costco and Superstore are also very close. Lots of parking. The rooms have been updated nicely. Very clean rooms -housecleaning does an awesome job. But you do need to request it each day. The rooms can be a bit noisy with traffic so request the third floor. Breakfast is provided but is pretty basic. The only real disappointment was it was hard to get a later check out of an hour. The front staff finally did provide it but I had to ask a couple of times. Late check out was requested as the business centre is very small and not appealing at all. Only one person can effectively use it at a time.

Outdated Pet Policy for a newer/renovated hotel that is owned and operated by Powerhouse Enterprises LTD. The only allow pets in certain rooms in certain areas of the hotel and not all rooms are “pet friendly” which is the way most hotels these days now operate. Booked a room through Hotels.ca for an executive King and request a pet friendly room. Hotel changed the booking to a cheaper regular room with two queens and stated they were unable to refund the difference or refund the room. Had to contact the booking website who spent over 30 minutes on the phone with them sorting it out and getting the room difference refunded to us. Also, no restaurant in the hotel or around the area and hotel right on the main highway so lots of traffic noise during the night. Room heated up but the bathroom remained as cold as ice during the night

We were fortunate to have booked an overnight stay at the Best Western Northgate. The front desk were friendly snd so very helpful as we were travelling with our boat. They personally directed us to the parking available for the boat. The rooms were beautifully clean and the beds were very comfortable. The continental breakfast was very good and lacked nothing , both hot ( eggs , waffles, bacon)and cold items were available, in a lovely bright breakfast room. Again wonderful cheerful staff. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Nanaimo.

Stayed here for business. It is close to shopping and some restaurants, not much else close to the property at the north end of Nanaimo. Rooms are nice, breakfast is included, but it is pretty basic because of Covid protocols (packaged muffins, bacon, eggs from a carton I am sure).

My wife and I stayed here in January and we were upgraded to the jacuzzi suite as I am a diamond select member with BW rewards. It was a nice gesture and we really appreciated it. Overall, this hotel is a bit dated and could use some TLC but it's clean and we found the staff to be pleasant. I'm not sure the price of the rooms is really reflective of the style of rooms but I guess things are getting more expensive everywhere. We would stay here again.

Nice hotel, well located, clean, very helpful staff, ok breakfast (except I spilt the waffle mixture)…… but…..
Awful lighting. In these days of cheap led lights, why not have a few more,
And I must admit, a personal gripe, the mattress is so soft that I awoke with a sore back.
The staff looked up and recommended a tiny sushi restaurant (do they have restaurants with only two tables?) which was good. Thank you.

Is elevator working now? I see it wasn’t from Feb 16 to 23.
Answer from GMNorthgate
Sorry for the extended delay in a reply. We pre-scheduled a complete modernisation of the elevator and it was returned to service on February 25th. Thank you to all of our guests for your understanding and a huge shout out to those guests who volunteered to be on the Top (3rd floor) to free up rooms for guests who may have health or mobility concerns. You are amazing!

Is the hotel walking distance to woodgrove mall ? Any bus stops to VIU near the hotel ? Thanks
Answer from GMNorthgate
Thank you twinklemelody for your query. Yes, the hotel is within walking distance of Woodgrove Centre Mall as well as a number of other retail locations in north Nanaimo. There is a bus stop just opposite the hotel that services the route to VIU as well as another bus route that goes to downtown Nanaimo. The bus to VIU (#15) runs approximately once an hour every day except Sundays. There is also one of the city's primary bus exchanges at Woodgrove Centre Mall with access to multiple bus routes. Thank you again for your inquiry.
Answer from GMNorthgate
Thank you Becky D, for your query. As of February 2014 our restaurant and pub were closed. However we do still serve our complimentary continental breakfast to our guests in the restaurant facility. The official Best Western website will have the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding any Best Western property and we recommend it as the primary source for reservations and hotel information. Unfortunately there are many sites which we have no control over the accuracy or updating of information. Thank you again for your inquiry.
