We’ve stayed here a number of times in previous year so we booked again this summer for our trip. Unfortunately it has changed hands and has slid downhill considerably In the months leading up to arriving we called several times to confirm our reservation. This included the day of arriving but I was blown off being told “ya ya reservation here” even though they didn’t even take the time to look at my reservation on their system. We arrived to find our reservation had been cancelled and certainly not buy us We were shoehorned into a room displacing some folks who hadn’t arrived yet and were told that we wouldn’t have to move rooms. however the very next day the owner came by after we were settled and told us we would have to move rooms The guests in the room above us stomped around like elephants and when I brought up the situation with the front desk because I had no access to knock on the door of the room upstairs I simply got blown off again being told “ Ya ya they go to bed soon.” No help. In previous stays we enjoyed our time here - not anymore. Unfortunately we cannot recommend this place.…

First off, our stay was as we expected from a “budget” hotel - nothing seriously wrong with the room, place or staff, just the wife and I prefer something a little more high end. That being said, brings us to why we choose this establishment- price. Our usual hotel wanted almost $300/ night - when we stayed there 3 weeks earlier for $145 / night - we didn’t appreciate the “price gouge” just because it was a long weekend. That being said, you do get what you pay for, to a point. The Riverside is a decent place, clean and being renovated and updated. We were in a recently renovated suite, it was ok, but nothing I would be proud of if I was the contractor doing the Reno. The finishing on the walls was sub par - the bathroom fan sounded like a airplane on takeoff, but the worst part, the lack of sound deadening in the walls. Very thin walls, very transparent sound wise. One other issue we encountered- how bright the room was - with the curtains closed - we didn’t need to use the lights at any point. The lights on the walkway outside our room, we’re bright enough to light up our room at night. Would we stay here again, yes - if our usual hotel was going to double its regular rate!!…

Cute little room in an incredible location! Steps away from the canal, a 5 minute walk from Coyote Cruises. A block from the lake and the strip where all the restaurants and bars are! Outdated decor, although the bathroom looked recently remodeled. The room had a full size fridge, kitchen sink and stove/oven, and even included some dishes! There was a back door that opened to the courtyard where the pool is, although it was closed when we went. I noticed quite a few cobwebs on the property, which could be a result of a pared down housekeeping staff due to Covid. Overall, a great stay, and would stay there again on my next trip!

We are not 5* luxury people, so it does not bother us that the motel is a little outdated. It's clean and has a great location for families. Across the scooter park with a paid watch person, the adventure park, the channel float entrance and around the corner from the lake, it's just great. I think you could have made it work opening the pool, which would have given you the 5th star in our rating. Other motels along the stretch made it work. Will see you again soon.

We recently stayed at the Riverside Motel. It has been newly renovated (a few of the larger units are not quite finished yet - the renos are that new!) beautifully done. It is a nice motel suitable for families. The pool is in a courtyard away from the street. We had a room with a patio overlooking the pool. The motel is nice and clean. The owners are lovely. And the location is perfect. Close to the beach, the canal cruises and right across from Loco Landing. It seems to ba a place that families return to year after year, and large family groups like to gather for reunions or special occasions. They must love it! We had a kitchenette, BBQs are available. I’d stay here again.

My wife and I stayed here with a group of friends in August. This wouldn't be a place we would typically stay but it was clean and well kept, the kitchenette in our room was well equipped for light meals with a stove, microwave, fridge and basic needs. The people made this place, great service and really friendly. There are quite a few rules to follow here - no noise after 11pm and drinks close to the pool, even in plastic glasses were a not allowed, but understandable from the management's previous experience with former guests as well as the family environment they are promoting. This place is in a great location, 5 min walk to the beach and a selection of restaurants and a 10 min walk to the closest Starbucks. Across the street is a small amusement park and the canal that has a company that picks you up and brings you back from the other end after an afternoon float. Make sure you bring beach/pool towels if you stay here as they aren't available, the hotel staff was nice enough to give us extras to use by the pool since we didn't know before arriving. All in all a good stay but would probably look elsewhere next time to something that we would normally book into.…

The rooms need renovations but you can’t beat the location. The cleaning staff were very accommodating to our teenagers that wanted to sleep in. Management was a bit odd. We had friends staying at the Bowmont motel and the Riverside shares a parking lot with the Bowmont. We were consistently going back and forth. Management called my husband to ask what our room number was and if we had another room at the Bowmont. It was odd and shouldn’t have mattered in the least to Riverside management. The Riverside also has a patio table in a quiet spot on their front lawn. One evening we decided to have dinner there and we were approached by management asking what our room number was. This wasn’t odd, but then they continued to approach us and with different excuses. Then they finally said that the spot was reserved for their executive suite and we found that odd because there were no signs posted saying the area was a reserved area nor did anyone else sit there throughout the week and a half we were there. …

Response from RiversidePenticton, Front Office Manager at Riverside Motel
Responded Aug. 8, 2018
Thank you for your reply. We don't actually share a parking lot with the Bowmont. There is a road separating them (dynes ave) I asked about your room and Bowmont as we were trying to clarify who our guests were, as there was so much back and forth we didn't know who was staying here, or there. (As I mentioned on the phone) and it does matter, as we do need to know who is staying on our property. As for the private deck. The guests in that suite pay a good rate to enjoy the room and it's amenities. One of the amenities is the private deck. Sorry you weren't aware of it, it would have been the same for you if you were in that suite. I approached you once about the deck, and clarified at that time about it being a private one. I also said you could use it. Sorry this made you unhappy. Hopefully it will not deter you if you wish to come back.

We booked 3 nights with a kitchen unit and were satisfied with the room and facilities. Before we left we made sure to clean out the fridge, wash all the dishes and counters. Once home we were surprised by a late charge of $75 for cleaning! When we inquired on the charge we were told the floor was dirty and had food stuff on? We had three rooms and each group indicated they had washed all the dishes, and cleaned up appropriately. To add to the insult we left it dirty was their comment that the rooms left at unexceptable(sic) stage and they would not take a booking again for our “group” and we would be more comfortable at another property. To what extent is a guest required to do cleaning? Scrub the floors? wash the windows? What a clip joint. I advise all not to stay there but if you do, have them check out your room before you leave or be prepared to be dinged extra charges for nothing. I think they need a course on customer service. We have stayed there 4 times over the years but never again. I have checked with the folks in the other units and they say they swept and cleaned up with as best one could without a broom or vacuum. Their response was very condescending and rude.…

I would never stay here again. Do yourself a favour and go stay at Golden Sands. Heidi the manager there is a lovely person. The manager here is plain rude and not at all welcoming to families. He shouldn't be in the hospitality industry full stop. Hidden cleaning charges added without merit. This motel used to be good but I would never stay there again.

Everything about this hotel was great. The rooms were clean and updated. The kitchenette was a bonus. I checked out a day early and they had no problems refunding me for the night. The beach and numerous restaurants are within walking distance. Would defiantly stay here again.
