This hotel is conveniently located close to many dining and sights. The hotel is dated and could definitely use a renovation but after covid etc, I bet all hotels will be just trying to earn some money back before that can happen. We stayed in a suite and it was VERY clean so kudos to housekeeping. The restaurants on site had great selections but we still went and found some other good options too. Front desk staff were incredible as well.

The one downside we saw is that they don't clean your room daily. They say due to Covid but if we're paying for hotel service, we do expect it each day. You have to arrange to be out of your room for 3 hours (not really a problem) before they will go in. Maybe just offer people a discount since you're not really providing the service all other hotels currently are.

We don't hesitate recommending this Sandman.

Good beds, convenient location. Adjacent Denny's was good for breakfast.

The reception desk said we did not have any reservations!
But she found it on a separate computer after my insistence and Booking.com reference.
We were asked to wait because she had to enter our newly found reservations in the hotel system.
Meanwhile, two other guests were checked in.
She apologized for the delay but was not a satisfactory experience.
We wanted to use the advertised swimming pool but were informed it was closed for maintenance.
Similarly, when booking the gym area, we were informed that we only had a half-hour window (approximately) as they didn't have staff to clean up and sanitize beyond that window.

Dear IntrepidYVR, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I was doing some research and found out that upon arrival your reservations were not in our system. The agent at front desk at the time asked you which website you booked from, then you offered the reservation numbers you had and as the agent explained, it was not in our system but that we would be happy to check our 3rd party website to see if the reservations were located there. There we found your reservation. Unfortunately sometimes, there is a blip in communications between the two systems and your reservations were not there, so the agent had to print out what you booked to manually enter it into the system. We do apologize for the fact that you were asked to wait, but you had two rooms that were not in our system and to manually enter it does take more time. For the inconvenience of this, you were upgraded free of cost to some of our more updated and larger rooms with king beds, vs the standard queens you booked. We are also very sorry for the pool and hot tub being closed, rest assured the advertisement was taken down as soon as possible, our decision to close both were not taken lightly but had to be done . As for the gym, we again apologize, but we do have specific protocols we must follow in order to keep our gym open, and since we can not have staff working in the gym area to sanitize it after every use 24 hours a day, we keep it open during the hours we are able to ensure it is thoroughly cleaned after every guest use. For that reason, our gym is open 9 am to 7pm and must be booked for use. The pool area should be open again soon. Thank you for using the Sandman in Pentiction. We hope to welcome you again in the future.

I want to encourage all travellers to stay at Canadian owned and operated hotels because these businesses provide employment and support the economy. Thanks to Lynne and Natalie, we were able to enjoy an overnight stay in Penticton at an affordable price in a comfortable room. We enjoyed the pool!

Sandman is promoting a great campaign to encourage individuals to come to the hotels. The "Summer" program offers good prices for those who want to travel in BC and Alberta. We're looking forward to more trips in the future.

This is our second year booking the Sandman. The staff here go out of their way to make your stay pleasurable. It is an older hotel and there have been improvements since last year. We had too many things plugged in and we blew a fuse so we called the front desk and within a few minutes someone came up and fixed it for us. When ever we called for something like towels or coffee they were prompt in their delivery. It is located close to the lake and it only takes less then 10 minutes to walk there. Our room was spotless, the air conditioner worked and our floor was quiet. We look forward to our next stay.

We checked in around 8pm with our two children and our baby. There were no fresh linens on the sofa bed in our room and no duvet or comforter for that bed either. When we requested some linens, we were given two pillows and one sheet folded up. As I was trying to make the sofa bed up, my hand rubbed against a dried booger on the one pillow. A dried booger!!! Turns out we were given dirty linens by the employee and the other pillow had what looked like makeup stains.

My husband brought the dirty pillows to the front desk to show them as he was heading down to move our vehicle. The front desk employee was really grossed out too.

He put in a request for proper linens and the same employee that dropped off the dirty ones showed up with one pillow and another folded linen and rudely said this was the only pillow they had in the hotel lol, I have no idea what was going on but I really doubt they were out of clean linens in the hotel so I don't know what the deal was.

He had given us a mattress pad as a comforter ( you know the ones with quilted bottom and the plastic strips on the corners to wrap under mattress corners) That's the comforter I was given for my kids. At this point it was quite late and our kids needed to go to bed. So they used the one pillow and mattress pad to sleep with. If I had been paying $100 a night or less for this room I honestly wouldn't have been as bothered and upset bc you get what you pay for but we were paying $289 a night for this room!

The next day I hunted down the laundry room and collected freshly laundered lines for our room.

Lastly, the pool was completely out of order. They were working on it and it was drained and construction was everywhere. The chemical smell was radiating throughout the hotel, it smelt like a chemical glue or paint but it was very strong.

For the price this hotel was charging, I was upset with the level of cleanliness (I found several short brown hairs in the tub and ledges when I was giving it a wipe down before the kids bath so I don't know if that was even cleaned beforehand). And I would never have stayed here had I known this was how it was going to be.

A few other notes in case you were wondering bc the photos don't show this: The hotel is very run down, stained wallpaper, dirty carpets, large parts of baseboard ripped out, dated, dirty bathrooms with moldy caulk in the corners. Again, all not a big deal if the price point fit that, but at $300 a night, I was peeved at the quality. Just stay somewhere else :)

Stayed here numerous times in years past without any problems. Lengthy stays for firefighting with a very respectable company.
Facility and rooms are older but clean, hallways tend to smell of whatever other guests were cooking. Note that it is a troublesome neighborhood and you shouldn’t leave anything of value in your vehicle.
On this stay, the desk staff misplaced the paperwork of our pre-arranged reservation which cost us extra time after a very long day of work.
They then required a $350 ‘deposit’ from each individual for a one night stay - the highest I have ever payed in any hotel ever across Canada and around the world. I’ve stayed in hundreds of them.
I’ve seen many reviews here from people that had one bad experience and try to berate the establishment because of that. Not my intention here, just my best and hopefully un-biased representation of my most recent experience.
Perhaps I just caught them on a bad day, your experience may differ.

Dear Sleeves138, thank you for talking the time and for leaving your review. We very much appreciate constructive critique and your comments with your intention to point out areas where we can improve. You could not really enjoy your stay with us and I apologize. The hotel is up for a major renovation in the future and your remarks help us in the planning process. I also apologize for the lost papers which resulted in a longer than normal wait time at check in. I will follow up on that high deposit and try to find out the reason for that. It should be much lower, especially for one night. I would like to learn more about your experience and the problems at check in. If you would be willing to talk to me about that please call me at 1 250 493 7151. Thank you and kind regards from Penticton

Needed an escape for 2 days and decided to use a local hotel for doing nothing and enjoy our home town like a tourist, walks along the lakefront, try local restaurants and just relax. The hotel was great, my wife is a cleanliness freak, especially now with Covid and we saw the good reviews and how clean it was etc. We knew it is not the fanciest hotel in town but we loved it.The rate was great and it is indeed very well taken care of, room and public areas very clean and neat, we always saw someone cleaning or disinfecting, even the tall front desk guy Steve was swiping the outside of his front desk and chatting with us at the same time. Everybody including cleaning staff was very friendly and greeted us every time we met someone. Pool was closed, apparently a bigger repair the manager told us. But we did not miss it, weather was so good, we spent the days outside anyway. We felt good and might do that again soon.

Stay away...old, dark, dingy, poor layout, and failing. In short, this hotel is in need of a complete make over (noting they have had the pool in reno for a number of months and reported to start on the rooms)

While the rates charged may catch your eye (and somewhat compensate for the experience), this is NOT what you expect from the Sandman brand.

Respectfully, the owners need think of closing until renos compete .. again just not up to Sandman standards

Too many other places in Pentiction.. off the list for now.

The front desk manager refused to issue me a receipt after I had paid for two rooms to the tune of $1500 for three nights. My two uncles also stayed so we had 4 rooms. Not to say the amount of money we spent here should matter but none of us will ever stay at a
Sandman Inn again thanks to two empowered employees. The managers claim because I booked online that Expedia has to issue me a receipt. Expedia has provided me with their copy of their rules and because I selected pay at the hotel the Sandman is responsible for issuing me a receipt. I have spent hours and dozens of phone calls trying to get a receipt from this hotel who not only refuse to help but are actually nasty about it. I am now waiting to hear back from a manager at online customer service who also couldn't believe the manager onsite would not help me. From Expedia below ....

Hello Steven,

We wanted to follow up about your request for a receipt.

Unfortunately, we are not able to supply you with a receipt. While you have booked with us, payment was made directly to Sandman Hotel Penticton. You will therefore need to contact them to receive you receipt.

Please reach out if you have any additional questions – we're sorry that we can't help more in this situation.

Regards,

Expedia Customer Support Team

We spend the weekend in the Penticton area for winery visits and for the beach. At the beginning of this enormous heat wave we were so happy finding a hotel at a decent rate with air conditioned rooms. They have the most amazing crew there, friendly and helpful and very hard working. Thank god our AC was working, but I also could not overhear a chat a guest had with front desk at check out. He raved about the service when the AC did not work properly, they immediately sent a technician and they fixed the problem before the guests were even back from their walk and the room was cool at their return. The only minus is the cloisd pool area. Other than that a really good hotel experience.
