Detailed Reviews
This guesthouse was a complete surprise! Great surprise! We needed accommodation for one night, last minute & just about every other place was either booked, disgusting or way too expensive. A friend mentioned this place (but had never stayed there) & we were so happy! It was clean, tidy, quiet, & a way better price.

I stayed here on two separate occasions within two weeks of each other for one night only on each occasion. My first stay was in a beautiful Queen Room that was larger than I expected and spotlessly clean. The room appeared to have been recently redone with nice and new flooring, a shower, sink, etc. I was impressed, especially after having read the other reviews for this spot.
However, on my second stay, I was "upgraded" to the studio apartment, and I would not recommend booking this room. It was dark, felt old, dirty carpet, leaking shower, etc. If you can book in the nice, newer part of the guesthouse, I would definitely stay here again, but for the rooms in the older part of the property, I'll pass.
I will say that I did appreciate the good wifi, friendly staff, late check-in times, and the ability to keep my (small) luggage in the office for the day even after I had checked out.

After escaping Prince George RV Park nightmare we found this boutique guest house and were so grateful. Clean, interesting, walking distance to town, it was just what we needed. We stayed in the first building which is a heritage building but has been renovated very nicely. We would stay here again.

It is a type of guesthouse that operates several apartments in two or three buildings. Mitten in Prince Rupert. Finding it is absolutely problem-free. You can park right in front of the grey building. Then to the reception to pay and check in.
We had room 41 - just on the ground floor of the gray building, right.
It was clear to me that in Prince Rupert you can charge fancy prices - the people who board the ferry at 5am have to sleep somewhere. Therefore, I swallowed quite a bit when booking at the price - but accepted that.
The room (the whole building) is very old. When the door is opened, it smells musty. And the decor is already beyond what lovers would find at home with bulky waste. Well, yes. For one night it will go. I hope so. Because especially by the bedroom directly on the road, the traffic noise is already clearly audible.
There is only one bedside lamp on one of the bedside tables. The ceiling light can only be switched on or off by the door.
Certainly little things but it just annoys and speaks of how unlovingly one has approached the design here. Although I think talking about “design” is a bit too much...
There is a kitchen with a very small dining table and two chairs. At an apartment with TWO bedrooms.
Well... what can you say... is just one night.
The apartment is definitely not pretty in any way. There is no detail where anyone has gone to any trouble with the decor or decoration. It's not even practical.

So overpriced++ especially for our 3 nights... cave-like room with window views to a concrete stairwell full of junk... so noisy at night from upstairs guests often until midnight and one night again from 3am!! Manager actually said " there's carpet or other insulation needed"! He could not oblige similar room move. One towel each, one dishcloth, one tea-towel and couldn't find Housekeeping staff. Notes/phone messages left at 9am not answered until after 6pm! Housekeeping ( finally seen on checkout) said they're too busy (it shows) as "no staff employed since June"...shower pressure okay, comfy bed but overall, the room dank and depressing for a stay. Outside "entertainment" area with BBQ needs a good clean up (shift the bbq OR all the rubbish bins!) as do the walkways.
Manager was to arrange a part refund, we're still waiting. Shame that posted photos. show misleading accommodation unless ours was completely out of order. Book elsewhere. We're so disappointed especially as International guests.

The ferry arrives very late and it is best to take a nearby and central hotel. Error. Its year of construction should be about when the first settlers arrived, as should its decoration. Hope to soon forget the size of the bathroom and the overall cleanliness. The best thing is that we only stayed one night and had breakfast outside.

We stayed in the 3 bed spacious apartment, they waited up for us to arrive on the ferry which we appreciated and even showed us to the room, opened the door and switched on a few lights. There was tea, coffee and whitener in the kitchen. Mis matched mugs and cheap dinner service let the really nice kitchen down. There were a few long hairs in the bathroom (ugh) but otherwise the place was really clean. The beds are comfy, shower pressure abit poor , but we’d stay here again.

The Black Rooster is located in a nice neighbourhood. The rooms are large, clean, and one had a nice living room area to hang out in. The buildings also had lovely decks. Laundry machines were conveniently located. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

I found the management to be rude and stuck up, the place overall was inexpensive and quite but the service was terrible, I have never felt so intimidated by a business owner, I would never stay there again.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Black Rooster Guesthouse and we found the service to be excellent, the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The thing we were most impressed with was the level of cleanliness in the room, and the staff were friendly, punctual and provided an excellent service.
We will definitely be coming back
