Situated on a stunning beachfront, the Best Western Plus Tin Wis Resort garners praise for its exceptional service, pet-friendly approach, and comfortable, well-equipped rooms with breathtaking ocean views. While some guests have pointed out areas for improvement in breakfast service and room cleanliness, the overall value of the resort is celebrated, particularly for its reasonable pricing and inclusive amenities. The location is a favorite among travelers, offering easy access to Tofino's attractions, although the restaurant's atmosphere and hot tub maintenance have received some criticism.

Lovely hotel. Well appointed rooms. Amazing location right next to a beautiful beach, 5 mins from Tofino. Lots of restaurants nearby - recommend Wildside Grill (10 min walk) & Li'l Ronnie's Beachside Bbq (5 min walk) - both serving excellent food (see my reviews ). Temporary breakfast room at the moment, but this is fine.

Tin Wis ran a local special for the month of June so I booked a night to surprise my son on his birthday. As Tofino locals, we frequent Mackenzie beach often but have never had a stay in any of the hotels/resorts. We stayed in room 116 and had a gorgeous view of the ocean and the well maintained lawn. The rooms have recently been renovated. The floors are laminate so it keeps things clean. The beds were very comfortable. As an adult I don't often sleep well in hotel beds, but I had a great night! Lovely artwork adorn the walls and the TV is quite large for a hotel room.
Front desk service was friendly and quick! In regards to COVID there are the correct signage and sanitizer at the front doors before entering. Breakfast would normally be complimentary buffet but is currently a cold grab and go from the main reception area. The fitness center and hot tub are currently closed as well. The outdoor hot tub was recently built on a deck and has a beautiful view of the ocean. I would love to stay again once it has been re-opened!

The hotel is within walking distance to the Live to Surf complex which has a few food options. We enjoyed take out from Wildside Grill and dessert from Chocolate Tofino to enjoy on our patio.
Thank you Tin Wis for an amazing deal and a great experience!

Hello Melissa, Thank you so much for taking the time to write out this lovely review. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that we exceeded your expectations. The local staycation promotion was certainly a popular choice among locals - we are so happy that you could take advantage of this. Once the BC Government moves to stage 4 of their "Restart Plan", we may end up opening up the amenities that you were craving. Stay tuned! Again, we appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back soon! Kind regards, Todd W Front Office Manager

First, when I called to inquire about the availability of rooms for the night, Aly was extremely kind and accommodating. She made us feel very welcome and ensured we had access to the room asap -- we were cold and wet from nights spent out winter camping on the beach in stormy weather!

Then when I checked out in a hurry the next day I made the mistake of leaving my backpack behind with all my clothes and Christmas gifts in it! Todd at the front desk went above and beyond to help me locate the bag and then helped to find a willing staff member to get my backpack to the local airport in time for the one and only flight out on Christmas Eve... Amazing!

My gratitude to John from maintenance who drove the bag to the cargo counter in a short window of time and had it shipped home to me when the hotel was running on a skeleton staff during the holidays.

I am incredibly thankful to have stayed at the hotel and am touched at everyone's kindness. Many thanks! Carole

This is about the MOST expensive Best Western I've ever stayed in. The room charges don't match up with the property. The Front Desk staff were exceptional and were really accommodating when we encountered some problems with our room. We arrived rather tired and frustrated because we missed the road closure signs and spent over 2 hours sitting on the highway waiting for it to reopen. We didn't like our initial room because it was connecting to another room and we could hear the family next door. However the front desk staff took care of everything. I would say the staff at the desk were the only saving grace for the Tin Wis. Pricing doesn't match the property and it's lack of services. There's a hot tub, but it was filled with kids 90% of the time.

Sadly the included breakfast is just poor with limited selection. Being provided with disposables cutlery when you are paying over $500 per night is just not acceptable. We were also made to clear our tables and take dirty plates and scape them. A nasty hand written sign was posted that we had to empty our cups in the sink and not dump them into the garbage. On the buffet there were 2 or 3 hot items, some small muffins, apples/oranges, and yoghurt. There is no longer a real restaurant, if you are staying there is just the basic breakfast you might see at a H I Express or similar.

The bathrooms are updated but have just a showers and it lacks any grab bars and you have nowhere to put a wet towel. There was no bath mats so we had to use one of our bath towels on the floor so we didn't slip when stepping out of the shower. The TV's have a good selection of channels and the Wifi connection was good. There were a lot of families and they seem to be catering to them.

When you are charing 5 star prices you should provide a 5 star experience. On this trip we'd previously stayed 3 nights at the JW Marriott in Vancouver had paid way less for a far superior property.

Hello Brewster I am dissapointed to hear that you feel this way. We are a 3 star resort, and although we are a part of the Best Western chain, we are independently owned, and are priced accordingly in comparison with other hotels in Tofino. While Tofino is a tourist down, our rates do reflect the seasons and fluctuate in conjunction with demand, and the other resorts in town. I am happy to hear that the front desk staff was able to help with requests and provide exceptional service for you. We hope you find the Tofino resort that brings you happiness, in the future.

I am very disappointed with the entire experience. When I booked this hotel I was told there would be a breakfast included of hot and cold options. When we got to the morning and had breakfast we showed up to find fruit cold cereal and some muffins. When I went to grab an apple the frunt desk girt yelled at me for touching an orange in the bowl and told me to take when I touched. First of all the was she spoke was super rude. Second of all all of the fruit was wrapped in Satan wrap and the oranges were on top of the apples how am I supped to grab and apple without touching an orange. She had no right to speak to me the way she did and no right to yell from behind her glass wall. When my husband ans I went to gran outer cold cereal we noticed that although the fruit was wrapped in plastic the bowls and the spoons for the cereal were open to the air not wrapped and just put in a basket where I had to touch multiple spoons just to grab one. This didn't make much sense to me.
Another issue I had was upon arrival I asked about the pool for my kids and was told on sorry no pool. My husband then asked about use of the gym she just said oh we have no staff to clean it so it's closed. I am super disappointed that I paid well over $500 for one night and we were not able to use any amenities at all. And had to go into town for breakfast because there were next to no options to eat at the hotel. I am very disapointed and will never be staying at that hotel again the $550 dollar price tag for a place to sleep was very upsetting.

Hello Curious, I believe that we already corresponded via the review that you left through our Best Western Review survey, but I would like the opportunity to also respond on Trip Advisor. The safety of our guests and staff remains a priority and is paramount during the Covid-19 pandemic. We apologize if you felt our front desk agent was rude - this was definitely not the intention. All agents have been trained and instructed to ensure guests are following protocol and using the "Grab & Go" breakfast appropriately so as not to jeopardize the safety of other guests and staff members. They are also instructed to advise guests to stand on the footprints set out for guests, to ensure social distancing, and to ensure that only 6 people are in our lobby area at a time. There are various new policies that staff have been instructed to inform guests of. This pandemic is new for everyone and we appreciate your patience as we all work through these new processes together to ensure a safe place to work for our employees and a safe place to vacation for all guests. Our property has never had a pool, so I am not sure where the expectation of this amenity came from. However, in regards to the fitness centre and hot tub, the confirmation letters that are sent to each guest after booking state the following about the additional precautions and limited amenities at our hotel: Additional Precautions: Mandatory gloves and masks worn by all staff members Staff temperature checks at the beginning of each shift Enhanced sanitation practices including new innovative sanitation equipment Professional signage regarding health & safety best practices Hand sanitizer stations throughout the property Electronic check-in/check-out encouraged (guest will still be required to come to desk) Plexiglass shielding at the front desk Occupancy thresholds allowing all staff and guests for social distancing Check-out rooms to be vacant for a designated period of time before being cleaned/reoccupied Limited Amenities: “Grab & Go” limited breakfast Breakfast sandwich Packaged oatmeal Yogurt Cereal Breakfast pastry Fruit Bottled water Limited housekeeping services Housekeeping will not clean or enter room during stay, but can replenish amenities Limited maintenance services If FD cannot troubleshoot issue, guest may be required to move rooms Hot tub closed Fitness room closed Meeting rooms closed No shuttle services Business Centre temporarily closed Guest laundry closed Items removed from guest rooms ie. Note pads, pens, directories, etc. These new policies have been implemented at our hotel as instructed by the BC Government, Worksafe BC, and Best Western We Care Clean Program. We apologize if you did not find value in your stay, but can assure you that for a newly renovated, 4 star hotel that includes breakfast and guarantees an ocean view - that we are priced competitively in the market. We appreciate your feedback and understand if you do not want to return, but hope you will reconsider given the steps our hotel is taking to keep everyone safe during these uncertain times. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you wish to discuss any of this further. Kind regards, Todd W Front Office Manager Best Western Tin Wis

The first disclaimer I have to write is that this is the first lodging property I have visited in the Covid-19 era. We all know experiences have changed and standards too. It is difficult to adjust your expectations of a place like this from what used to be the norm to what the “new normal looks like.” But I will try.
Let’s start with the positive. The location of this property right by McKenzie Beach is unbeatable. I was lucky to get a first floor room and I was able to open my patio door and basically walk into the beach! The grounds are well maintained and they are inviting.
The rooms are ample and well appointed. In the Covid era cleanliness is a must and they are spotless. All you need is there. Beds are comfortable and pillows are good for a restful night. Plenty of parking.
Now, here are the three issues I have. Again, I understand the need to adjust to health and safety protocolos, so these are not problems but things that may be done differently and can be improved. Also, we are not talking about a budget property; this is a fairly expensive place and it means they can do better.
The first note is the fact that there is no cleaning in rooms during your stay. That’ understandable but we are talking about a beach property and beach properties bring... sand! We only stayed two nights but at the end the stay there was sand everywhere (floors, beds, bathroom). We tried as hard as we could to keep sand out but is is impossible when people in your party surf, love to walk in the beach, or just enjoy being there. I can’t imagine a longer stay without a vacuuming or changing beddings. These things can be done in a safe manner within safety protocols.
The second item is the breakfast. All restaurants in town are up and running with full service. This property decided to provide boxed breakfasts instead. This is a solution and the options are acceptable but I am sure they can do better.
Both previous elements take me to the third: rates. I can totally see this property charging what they charge per night in regular times. However, given the service reductions (again, fully understand why) it’s hard to value the stay the same way that in normal times. Maybe having different expectations would have helped, but this is a premium summer destination and this is one of the best properties around.
Overall, I recommend the property and I look forward to visit again in the future and enjoy everything they offer without any restrictions. I will gladly pay what is worth.

Hello RanyDanny, Thank you so much for taking the time to review our property. We certainly appreciate the candid feedback as it will only help for future guest experiences. We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed many aspects of your stay. As the safety of our guests and staff remains paramount, we are continuing to follow the regulations set out by WorkSafeBC, the Provincial Government, and the Best Western We Care program. The comments you made are absolutely fair. However, being a branded property can bring its challenges where we need to not only follow the regulations set out by WorkSafeBC and the provincial government, but also the guidelines set out by the brand itself. Again, we appreciate this feedback and will be reviewing in detail to ensure an amazing experience for all guests. We hope to welcome you back - hopefully when we are able to open up all of our amenities to guests. Kind regards, Todd W Front Office Manager

We booked a labor day weekend 4 nights family trip to Tofino on very short notice, and this was the only beach hotel with vacancies – we now know why.

The location is perfect, on the beach with outlying rocks that break the waves. Perfect for all watersports except for surfing, which is possible close by at Chesterman or Long Beach.

At check-in we were informed, and had to sign a waiver, that there is no room service of any kind, but we could come and pick up fresh towels if needed. Without any cleaning utensils provided in the room, the family bathroom situation become “interesting” after the second day. The room already smelled strongly of mold and wet carpet when we arrived, which had us rush to buy a can of Febreze in town, which we almost used up.

The breakfast was poor, average fast food quality at best, with the orange juice watered down and the yoghurt machine broken all mornings. Motel level at best.

We have been to other Best Western hotels before, which provided a much better overall experience at less than 50% of the $450/night prepaid rate we were charged. Why it is advertised as Best Western Plus is beyond me, as BW Minus would be a much more appropriate designation. Next time we’ll book early, but elsewhere.

My husband and I stayed at the Tin-Wis in Tofino last fall and had such a great experience, so we were thrilled to come back and stay again this past weekend.

Tin-Wis has it all — Convenient location, friendly and accommodating staff, bright, clean rooms (with a GORGEOUS view of the ocean), and excellent amenities, such as a hot tub, barbecue grills, supplies to build a campfire, complimentary breakfast, etc.

The Tin-Wis is beautifully landscaped, and decorated with stunning indigenous artwork. The resort backs onto the picturesque Mackenzie Beach, which is the perfect setting to enjoy beach activities like swimming and paddle boarding, or watching the sun go down. Each room also has a good sized balcony with a patio set, so you can enjoy breakfast with a view, or stargaze with some wine.

We can't wait to visit again!

You can’t beat the beach location. On very well kept grounds and all units facing the ocean the BW Plus Tofino is a great option.
Standard double Queen rooms are functional well equipped. With the tiny bathroom , I wouldn’t recommend to use the room with 4 . Microwave, Keurig and fridge working well in conjunction with the take away breakfast, which due to Covid is still the limited service.
Exceptionally friendly cheerful and efficient service , housekeeping wonderful staff added to making our 5 night stay very enjoyable

The view was amazing even though the weather did not cooperate! We could hear and see the breakers from our balcony and all the balconies faced seaward. Located on the beaches of the west coast of Vancouver Island, this is the very best, Best Western we have stayed in. It is the best of any hotel we have stayed in.
The off season provided a serve yourself breakfast which was fresh and the hot breakfasts were tasty and renewed continually. We could see a dining room so assumed that in season this would also be available.
The hotel amenities ran to a lovely hot tub just outside our unit and a very well appointed gym. The hotel is First Nations owned and operated and not an hour went by without a friendly smile and greeting from any of the staff. Any queries were answered quickly and the reception staff went above and beyond what we were expecting. It was also pet friendly!! We love dogs and although we do not have one at the moment, it was a joy to see so many on the beech. Dogs on hotel property are required to be leashed. The only drawback to our stay was that restaurants in the area are few on the off season and some are quite pricey but then I guess in a tourist area such as Tofino or Long Beach that is to be expected.

The mention of the dining room is noted, and we hope you'll have the opportunity to experience it during your next visit! There are bike racks & a bike rental shop on site. The hotel staff can answer about a shuttle as I don't recall one. Town is very close though so if you have bikes, you can ride there. And, there is an awesome paved trail that goes from Tofino to Ucluelet that passes by several of the other beaches along the way.
