Tofino’s first new campground in over twenty years, Surf Grove is camping, first-class. What does that mean? It means an easy and seamless online booking process. It means warm, attentive service—real humans, here to welcome you, then help you with anything you might need during your stay. It means high-quality, carefully considered amenities—designed with surfers, hikers, and adventurers of all kinds in mind. Enjoy one of our 135 full service RV Sites, 64 semi-service sites and over 800 feet of oceanfront on Canada’s favourite surf beach. Better yet, we are open for year-round camping! We’ve also got an onsite Pacific Surf Co. Surf Shack for lessons and rentals, plus beachside surf showers—so you don’t end up with too much beach in your sleeping bag. The rooms earn high marks for their cleanliness and maintenance, making them a repeat destination for some travelers. We spent 6 days at Surf Grove over Canada Day and it was perfect. The sites are great although some of them are wide open with little to no privacy. It's new so the greenery just needs some time to grow in. The hookups were quick and easy, there are washrooms with free hot showers, and rinse stations near the beach. The staff are super friendly and you can buy ice at the main office for $3/bag.

It's the location that makes this place magic. Most sites are merely steps to the beach (I'm not sure it's worth paying more money for the sites closest to the water since they're all REALLY close). Cox Bay is amazing. We rented wet suits and boogie boards for our kids and they played in the water for hours.

There's also a bike path you can ride to nearby food, coffee, shops (including Tacofino, it's about a 10 minute ride good for kids but the beginning of the path is still under construction so you just have to get past that part). We also biked to Tofino Brewing.

Overall we highly recommend and will 100% be back!

We came here first week of opening and can I just say how amazing the staff is. Brand New campground and practicing Covid business safety extremely well. We have a 30 foot travel trailer with a large slide out. We initially had site 126 to be close to the ocean, but realized we didn't quite fit. We were moved with ease to another site and it fit like a glove; in fact, many would, but they're just not along the ocean. Some of the sites are open without much privacy, but many are surrounded on three sides with bushes that will grow, but provide plenty of privacy between sites as it is. I love how they've kept vegetation around the campground and haven't flattened it to make more sites (I personally don't stay in "sardine" sites if I can avoid it). Firewood is $10 a bundle of approx 4-5 pieces. Ice is $3. Site costs vary by proximity to ocean trail. Important to note: it is located on Cox bay, but sites are not directly ON the ocean and the view from the Oceanside sites is limited. But that's a good thing since the winds would make it breezy at the site. The ocean... Is... Amazing. Mind blowing. The surf mist covering the sand looks dreamy. Dress appropriately. Bring extra towels to wrap up in if the wind is high. Showers aren't open yet, but the shower house and washroom building is beautiful. The grounds are beautiful. The lighting at the entrance to each site is a warm light and not too bright. You still get a feeling of wilderness camping with full service. I'm glad we got the chance to come before it gets so busy we may not be able to return in high season. This place will become, no doubt about it, a favourite of Tofino. Huge props to the staff here, I cannot say enough wonderful things about them.

We only stayed one night but were very impressed. The campground is very clean. The garbage receptacles even had hand sanitizers attached to them. The washrooms were very clean. Lots of hot water. The campground is just a few steps from the beach at Cox Bay so that was a big drawing card. We were there for the first storm of the season. The surf was pretty amazing! Our only negative comment would be that it is a bit pricey.

We spent 4 nights at Surf Grove Campground in our Class B RV and found it very nice. The campsite is well set up and the sites are all very level and clean. Most appear to have triple setup so make the RV camping very easy. Bathrooms and showers are great with lots of hot water and some heat (critical at the time of year we were there). The location is excellent as it is a very short walk to the beautiful beach and surf. We are not surfers, but certainly, albeit briefly, entertained the idea as we watch the multitude of black neoprene clad campers walk by with their surfboards to the beach. The only thing I would mention is if you are planning to use the sewage hook up on the site for dumping, you will need some extra hose as the location is quite deep into each campsite making it impossible to pull up our unit close enough for use with a single length hose. Luckily there is a dump station near the entry/exit that is easier to navigate. Would certainly go back again!

The campground is new but there’s some shrubbery between sites so there’s some privacy. The internet is great especially for this part of the coast if working is your thing but if the beach is your scene it’s just a short walk down the path to Cox Bay.
The washrooms weren’t open yet but even if they were I couldn’t use them. For all the work they’ve done they’ve fallen short on handicap accessibility. The surface of the sites is packed gravel (nice) there is concrete in the shower/bathroom area (nice) but to get to them they put down large loose gravel which is not accessible by a travel scooter (not nice). There is a handicap parking space beside the showers (nice) with a concrete path to the showers (nice) but it’s too short by about 4’/5’ to be of use for me and my scooter. For some reason they put loose gravel between the packed stuff and the concrete rendering it useless to me. Couldn’t really drive the rig over there and have no toad. There’s also is no handicap access to the office, which is in a glorified trailer for now but I would think if you called them from the parking area they would assist you. Overall it was great but a lack of handicap accessibility, especially for a new site, ruined it for me. Stayed at Blue Canoe in Newfoundland last year (also just opened) and they made a point of asking me if the handicap accoutrements (according to government standards) were suitable for me. They were great, ramps, automatic doors. Hint, hint.

In the past we did a hotel stay at the other end of Cox Beach for some winter spring storm gazing and decided we wanted to try Tofino in the summer.First of all if you have never been to Tofino it is time for you go and try this wonderful place.
We arrived on the early ferry from Horseshoe Bay in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island so we could get past a daily hi way closure that starts at 11 am and lasts till 4 pm. Its a project that will widen and straighten a very curvy area and make it much easier to pass through. Very important to get there by 10:45 am.so you make it through the alternating traffic.

We arrived at Surf Grove to a very pleasant and helpful staff who had us checked into our very clean and lovely trailer in minutes.
After unloading and putting things away we took a 3 min walk to the beach where we saw alot of surf companies teaching surfers of every age who were there for that experience. It was a great vibe and the beach on Cox bay is breathtaking.
The campsite area was roomy and our trailer had all the comforts that included a great cooking stove and oven, A roomy fridge freezer, an electric fireplace that kept us warm at night . It does cool down at night. Also a comfortable queensize bed and a bunk bed setup that would be great for a couple of kids.
The bathroom was an efficient size with a shower and sink. We took quick showers so as not to use up all the hot water. Surfgrove also provides very clean public showers that include a really cool private outdoor shower for longer showers if needed.
I talked to a couple other families who have their own trailers that said the public onsite showers were the best they have ever seen. Remember there alot of tent sites and trailers of every size that are there.
On our first night we cooked up some salmon on the generous sized Weber propane grill that was provided on our site.
Our heads hit the pillow and we slept very comfortably every night. Being a family campsite people were very respectful about noise and every night was quiet by 10pm
We chose to cook breakfast on site and had lunch and dinner at various eatery’s never repeating the same restaurant the 4 days of our trip.
There are many Restaurants, food trucks . Snack shops, coffee shops, ice cream etc in Tofino and nearby Uclulet. Both towns are a must see.
The food was amazing at every place we went. Our favourites were the “happy hour” at the Black Rock Hotel and the Wolf and the Fog in Tofino (best to reserve at WF)
Surf grove and Tofino/Uclulet can be whatever you want it to be. I brought my clubs and played 9holes in the morning, layed on the beach , watched beautiful sunsets and we ate like royals.
There are so many choices that you will feel like we did and wish you could stay another 3 nights.

We loved Surf Grove.
We would do it again in a heartbeat !!!

First time visiting Tofino and surf grove was great! More expensive than other campgrounds but you get great amenities like WiFi, water hookup, nice and clean shower and toilets, a store, etc. My only complaint is that some of the campsites don’t have much privacy but that is minor. Definitely more “glamping” style of camping.

Being close to Tofino town centre and right on the beach was worth the price tag. Would def stay again!

AN UNFORGETTABLE TRIP! Found out about this new campground from a friend in Tofino. Drove up from Vancouver and rented a trailer to stay in on the campground. The area is a 5 minute drive outside of the town and the beach in front of the campground is great for hiking or surfing. The campground is remarkably well kept and our lot felt very cozy and roomy. The outdoor showers are new and are amazing after surfing in Cox Bay. We enjoyed the sunset every night from our trailer or walked 5 minutes to the gorgeous sunset point. The staff were all friendly and helped us with hydro and setting up our trailer. I didn't expect to get much work done but the wifi was great and I had no problem setting up my work from the trailer. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, a place to campout and surf with friends, or just a place to relax I would definitely recommend checking this place out ! I've never been a big camper but I may have to put on my boots and bucket hat because I will be coming back.

Wow, my family and I were really impressed with this campsite, especially during these difficult times. We really appreciated how safe we felt the whole time we were there with online check ins, very clean toilets and showers, and hand sanitizers by the washrooms and garbage bins. I also appreciated that my phone messages were always followed up in a timely manner.
We're already planning our next booking.
Thank you very much,

Spent 5 nights, Sept 2-7 at Surfgrove in site 102 in Spruce Grove directly across from the path to Cox Bay. Full hook-ups, new picnic tables and fire pits in private sites set in this world class destination makes this our favourite new spot on the island. Some foliage between sites is still small but by summer 2021 things will grow creating more privacy. First campsite run like a hotel with proper booking system, professional staff, and beautiful amenities which command the higher rates that in turn make Tofino more accessible to travellers who can’t afford the resorts. We stay at Pacific Sands and are thrilled to now have a camping option that rivals this resort. Have already booked multiple return stays and highly recommend. Suggestion is to add a playground, surf shack with snacks or food trucks which would add to the cool vibe. Finally, thank you for being a campground with no permanent residents, please don’t change that.

That is dependent on when you stay with us. We have sites available in the off season for $49/night and in the peak season rates can get up to $120/night for a full service RV site by the beach. We will be opening some tent camping sites for reservations this springtime, and the rates for those sites are yet to be determined, but they will be much less than the full service RV sites, as they will only have electrical hook-ups. If you scroll to the bottom of our website you will be able to sign up to be notified by email when the new sites become available for reservations! You can also reach us for any questions by email or phone. Our prices and availability can be found by following the "Book Now" button on our website.
