The experience is amazing because of the beach and proximity to the beach, and I highly recommend this resort, if you can afford it and are ok with basic amenities for a very high price. We've been going for many years. Sadly, this resort is now price-gouging. It was always pricey but worth it to us for the $500-700/night for a once a year special birthday trip. Price raises to nearly $1000 a night in summer 2023 for a 1-bed cabin with minimal amenities are an insult to the many local people who I know have been saving up to go for there annually for years. Not sure what the reason is - new ownership or what. You get the amazing location, especially the beachfront cabins, but for those prices you'd expect at least a better check-in time than 5pm - the latest of every other resort we've ever stayed at - so you can get value for money, Wi-Fi that works, a much better pool and other amenities to match the eye-watering per night prices, and maybe even a complementary fire-pit to take on the beach (now open fires on the beach are banned, or were last time we visited) instead of having to pay $50 to rent one, or it seems you now have to buy them outright. Don't believe those prices? Try booking. We even made the trip during COVID, despite restrictions around the pool, when we were trying to support local places we loved and this is the reward. Even off-peak is incredibly expensive now. These prices compare to 5* beachfront hotels with luxury amenities, yet Ocean Village has minimal staff and very basic amenities to upkeep, so the price rise is hard to understand and it's hard to see this as anything other than greed and a desire to cater to a more upmarket customer base, rather than families (in fact their website seems much less family-focused now than it used to be). Such a shame to price out locals like this and it breaks my heart to post a review for this place ( couldn't bring myself to just put a 1 star even though this new pricing deserves that) we have so many wonderful memories of but hopefully the management will read this and the other feedback on pricing I know they are getting on social media and realize their current direction is the wrong one and a slap in the face for loyal customers.

Return visit after about 25 years. The place was as pleasant as I remembered, and has managed to retain its peaceful ambiance despite the expansion of the tourism industry in the area. Check-in was quick and I was in my cabin within a few minutes of arriving at the property. I had asked for a specific ocean-front cabin and this request was met. Only a few steps to the beach and the sound of the surf was pleasantly audible through closed windows at night. Cabin was fully equipped for cooking meals. Pool is long enough for a decent swim, provided that you find a time when it’s empty or nearly so.

Tofino is amazing and Mackenzie beach is one of the best for families. The Ocean Village cabins are fun and have everything you need right off the beach. Unfortunately, what is not so great is the resort's customer service. This was our second time staying here, and we were disappointed to see that all of the boardgames, books, sports balls etc they used to have on hand were removed, and all of the pool toys (noodles etc) are also gone - apparently due to COVID, although its unclear why they haven't replaced them now. Further more, when we booked our stay their website advertised a 15% storm watching discount, when we checked in we asked if we were getting that discount and the front desk ensured us that we would and it would be applied on checkout. When we checked out, the discount was not applied. When we inquired why, the resort manager was argumentative and blamed us for misunderstanding the information. When a business advertises a sale and you walk up to the counter to pay and the clerk tells you its on sale, and then charges your credit card at full price, thats a problem with the business not the customer. I have never been in such a situation where the business did not honour the sale, until Ocean Village. In a town where there are many excellent beach side resorts to choose from, customer service should be high on the list, and you will not find it at Ocean Village sorry to say. There are literally three other very nice resorts and a large campsite on Mackenzie beach alone. Too bad, we really want to love this place :(

Response from Michaela Logan, Guest Services / Front Office at Ocean Village Resort
Responded Jan. 12, 2023
Hello CLandrock, Thank you for choosing Ocean Village for your recent Tofino stay and for taking the time to write a review. I'm sorry to hear your stay was less than perfect. We offer beach games from guest services like bocce, spike ball, badminton, volleyball, footballs and sand toys by request! We have removed our volleyball net due to weather this time of year due to our storms. Additionally we have an Ocean Village board game set with a variety of classic games inside in each of our cabins. We will definitely take into consideration adding our pool toys back. I apologize for your disappointment regarding the storm watching special. As stated from our website and in our social media posts our storm watching specials are valid until March 3rd, black out dates applicable. I would be happy to honor the rate if it was within the available dates. Unfortunately I am unable to discount our holiday dates especially over New Years as it is one of our busiest times of the winter. I had my guest services team reach out to me in regards to your requests during your stay and again at check out. In response that I would get back to you but no discount was promised. I appreciate your feedback and moving forward we will make sure to specify our black out periods by dates. Hope to see you again, and all the best. Warmest Regards, Michaela

Tofino is a beautiful place and I couldn't ask for more than to be in a cabin with a gorgeous view of the sea. The cabins are cozy, comfortable, clean and decently sized. There are lots of things to do for kids as you can borrow plenty supplies like balls and games. Also a great place to go surfing. The beach sand is fine and stays shallow really far out into the water. This is also an amazing place for dogs and I am pretty sure the majority of people staying here had at least one dog with them... there is dogs everywhere. So, if you like dogs, this is a great place to be. If you're not into swimming in the ocean however, there is also an indoor pool. The pool and pool room is very well maintained and the pool is pretty big. It is usually not busy though. You can also have adventures on the small island which is about 40 feet from the beach at high tide but at low tide, it connects via sandbar. So, if you can get over the prices, this is a five-star stay.

We enjoyed staying at the Ocean Village resort about 30 years ago with our kids. For whatever reasons this was our first visit since then - although both our children have returned more than once with family and friends. We were a group of four families and took over Units 3, 4, 5 and 6 for three nights. Once again Ocean Village did not disappoint. The units were clean and very well equipped. We found the bottom units were spacious enough for all eight of us to comfortably gather, socialize and dine potluck. The spectacular beach was just steps away from our doors. Available upon request were tools for cooking and devouring the freshly caught crabs purchased in town. Two enormous BBQ's were available for guest use. No TV's but that was a bonus. Good wifi. Remote checkin and checkout worked like a charm. And finally, we certainly appreciated the management arranging the most un November like weather you could imagine. Blue skies without a hint of rain or wind made all our cold, wet weather prep quite unnecessary. We plan on returning much sooner than 30 years from now, this time!

We had an absolutely fabulous weekend with our dog on the beach here. It was so easy to have her there. The view was amazing, walking the beach was amazing. Being so close to Tofino and the restaurants in walking distance were awesome. We also made good use of our perfict little kitchen. Thank you Ocean Village Beach

Great value in Tofino. We stayed here in October 2022. Accommodation were clean. We enjoyed the ocean view and the sunset. I prefer to stay in accommodations which are sufficient and not over the top. Ocean Village is perfect. Comfortable bed. Good location.

My husband and I stayed at OV for 2 nights, July 2022. The cabin was wonderful. meticulously clean with modern finishings. The bed was comfortable and quiet to sleep. There is no AC or TV in the cabin. The Wi-Fi was strong and we were able to watch Netflix easily on our devices. We had unit 45 which is direct oceanfront. It was a great view and honestly with the ocean out in front of you, who needs TV! We walked the beach, watched all the families (and dogs/pet friendly) play in the water. Tofino gets quite cool after sunset so we had no trouble sleeping without AC. Tofino is a cool little beach town with some great restaurants, hikes, water activities. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at OV and Tofino!

We had a great time here. The staff were super nice and the cabins were super cozy. It's right on the beach too, and super close to the town. Definitely worth staying here! Between being closer to the beach and the town it is a great spot to stay at! There is also a pool and hot tub which is great. We will be back again.

I can't believe that this place still has a 5pm check in time. The road is open more often now to go through. And it's not like there is any staff shortage, with jobs everywhere. And Covid is no longer an excuse but it seems to work for them. Masks are now optional and the majority of folks are vaccinated.

Response from Dena Cole, General Manager at Ocean Village Resort
Responded May 17, 2022
Hi 474dwaynec, Thank you for staying with us on your latest trip to the west coast! Yes, we do have a 5pm check in...I'm sorry you were disappointed with this. Unfortunately there IS an issue with staffing in the area, which makes it difficult on busy days. The 5pm check in is not unheard of, as most hotels are struggling with staffing. We have adjusted our check out time from 10am to 11am to help offset the check in time. So instead of disappointing guest by not having their room done on time, we would prefer to exceed guests expectations by having the room done before 5pm. I hope this helps you to understand. All the best Dena
