Detailed Reviews
Room rates are ridiculous in this area, so we were paying twice what we paid for the same type of roadside accommodation in the rest of Canada. However, the place is a well-run family operation, and has a hominess about it that sets it apart from chain motels. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a fridge and microwave. The only problem we had was the blinds that wouldn`t close after we opened them. We weren`t bothered enough about it to call the manageress, though. The motel is close to the seashore, but it is not really accessible as far as we could see. There is a surfer campervan colony between the shore and the property with a no trespassing sign. It was quiet. The manageress warned us against the restaurant next door. Aside from that, the dining options in Tofino are excellent. Just make sure you book your table way ahead or you don`t have a chance.

We stayed two nights at Meares Vista Inn and enjoyed it very much. The location is perfect with only a 2-minute drive to town with lots of cafés, restaurants, shops, art galleries, supermarket etc nearby. Being a family of five, we got a family room with enough beds and storing places for all of us. We also had a fridge and a microwave, which was very convenient.
Our host Mandy went out of her way to help us. We forgot a backpack on one of the beach trails and didn't realise until we were at our next accommodation several hours away. She used the local Facebook groups to call for the backpack, got hold of a man who had found it and even helped with transportation to a city near us. We were very grateful as the content was precious to us and we could not have gotten hold of the backpack without her help.

Great spot, newly / tastefully renovated rooms, clean, friendly staff, well supplied clean outside BBQ and kitchen area was an added bonus if you want to cook your own meal. Good location with an easy walk to downtown. The price was right. (Note: most places are fairly expensive in Tofino) I would stay there again. I like supporting a family-run business especially when they take great pride in ownership and are so accommodating. I would stay there again without question.

We picked Meares vista for our one night tofino get away and we don’t regret it. I had stayed under the previous owners and was scarred by the deplorable conditions but the new owner has made amazing strides in creating a safe, clean and comfortable place to stay. Our double queen room was clean and the beds and bedding were very comfortable. The bathroom was cute and nice local looking art hung in the room. For the price and the amount of time we wanted to stay it was excellent. Had a nice chat with the owner on our way out and I would absolutely stay here again. I could see this being a great/affordable place for a family to stay if they were wanting to visit tofino and not spend a fortune! Also the kitty was very friendly :)
We will be back!

This is a simple motel stay on the edge of town and the new rooms are large and clean. Friendly staff helped us with local recommendations on where to eat.
It’s fairly basic and a few bits could do with some maintenance but you get what you pay for.

The Meares Vista Inn is a family run establishment right near the inner harbor, directly across form Meares Island and within walking distance to town. It is still undergoing some renovations. Our room was quite large and simply furnished with two double beds in the back, a pull out couch in the front and a small but complete bathroom. It was very clean, very reasonably priced and much to our delight, there was no extra charge for our two dogs. Check in was easy even though we arrived late and the owner was very friendly.
If you need fancy amenities and daily bed making, this is probably not the place for you but if you are in Tofino to soak up the natural beauty of the area and want to spend your money on some fabulous meals at local restaurants, you can't do much better.

We had the unfortunate opportunity to spend a night at this hotel only to have our vehicle broken into and things stolen. Lots of sketchy people coming and going, no security cameras anywhere, not a safe place. Really bad vibe. The experience was poor all around, there was sand in the beds upon arrival and blocks of wood for locking windows.

Response from summerfun2011, Owner at Meares Vista Inn
Responded Aug 24, 2015
Hi there, I am terribly sorry you did not have a good experience with us. I apologize for your vehicle getting broken into, and that your room was not as clean as it should have been. This is not a common occurance. We are in ongoing renovations on this building and there are many things we have not yet done which includes the windows. Typically the room you were staying in is one that doesn't get reserved, and is for walk ins because it is not a fully finished room, but it typically explained and it is at a lower rate than the rest. There is such a mass amount of people, we try to accommodate with what we have. The people in and out you were referring to are staff who stay here and work for the summer in all different businesses in Tofino, and they are all very respectful. We work very hard here, and try to make everyones stay enjoyable. Please contact me via email or phone to help me figure out how to remedy this situation. Thanks Mandy

My girlfriends and I stayed here and were very happy. From the outside it appears to be under renovation but the newly finished rooms are terrific! The beds are amazingly comfortable and the rooms are spotless and warm. I have stayed in many places in Tofino and most have been around for a long time and are run down from use and the damp weather. This hotel has great views of the inlet, is right beside town and about a 15-20min walk to the beach. The rooms are outfitted with all you need for a great stay.
The couple that runs the hotel are amazing and very helpful with whatever you may need. This place is a great value for your money and I would highly recommend it for someone not wanting to spend a small fortune to visit this town.

by husband and i just rode from Edmonton to Tofino and we didn't realize we should have booked way in advance for either a campsite or a room and when we got there EVERYTHING was booked, no room anywhere. and on our way out of Tofino we diced to just stop at meares and see. she was fully booked as well, BUT.... she had a room being renovated that had a bed and and a couch in it that she quickly cleaned up for us and let us stay for the 3 nights we were there. it was so sweet of here and she is a very lovely person, her cat is quite the cutey too. when we go back we will definitely try to book a room at the meares. very much enjoyed it there and can't wait to go back.
