We stayed here for 2 weeks and it was a great spot to be. It's downtown so was easy for us to explore and get around easily. Some things to note about this place, there is no kitchen just a microwave, no kettle and no sink to wash up used bowls and cups so I'd recommend getting disposable cups etc...

No matter where I was I could easily get a bus to go back to the hostel, a lot of bus stops around. Many places to eat nearby. It's an old building, but it's worthy the price. Bathroom is okay. No kitchen. They didn't turned the heat on two nights, what was not good, but not terrible.

Although it is a old house, it is really cheap and well located. There is no breakfast, no kitchen. I missed activity promoters as I have already seen in some other hostels; it is not the most social hostel that I have ever been. However, its price and locality are worth.

I admit I was a bit worried this place was going to be a dump. But once I arrived I was clearly surpised. You get what you pay for. Booked a 4bed share . For a week. It's right near everything downtown. Room is a bit tight but if ur just there to sleep and store your things the place...

St Claire is not a hotel but a dump place. Toilet is smelly. Bathroom is slimy, creaked floor, noisy bed, bed bugs, unfriendly staff, hot room no fan, opened window, noisy. It should be taken off the market.

This place is ok. The staff are nice. But the main problem is that it doesn't have a kitchen. If you are travelling alone, go to samesun where you will probably meet more people whilst cooking/doing the hostel activities or chilling in the common room. The facilities in st Clair's are very basic. Also they don't serve breakfast :-(

The place could be really nice and needs a lot of tlc.. The room needed a good clean, as did the showers and toilets which also had terrible lighting. We had a double room and the bed was awful, creaked and moved up and down when barely moving on it at all. The hall way is dingy and everywhere basically...

This is not even close to a bed and breakfast but a hostel providing only basic dorm beds and shared bathrooms even if you book a private room. Do not expect much of privacy either as doors come with top ventilation grilles as there is no air-conditioning. Rooms are basic and clean but beds are old and creaky. There is...

After 28 hours constantly travelling, our first impressions were minimal and thoughtless, although a historic building, being it the first concrete building in Vancouver. We walked up the stairs and it hit us in the face like a saucepan. The place looked dark, melancholy and didn't have a nice atmosphere. The bedroom was reasonably sized room with a double bed...

Some friends and I were in town for the Portland Timbers/Vancouver Whitecaps soccer match and this hostel was right around the corner from one of our supporters group's rally point (Railway Club), so it was a good fit for us. Located mere blocks from the Gastown district, it's pretty well located in downtown Vancouver. We took the SkyTrain in from...

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
