Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed here for a rare kid free night on the town. We're huge Marriott fans but I've never tried an Autograph collection hotel before and was eager to check out this new property (it's only about 2 years old). The hotel is part of the Parq come that also has a JW Marriott hotel, several restaurants and bars and a casino. It's literally right next to BC place (our room had a cool view of it) and kind of nestled I between the edge of Yaletown and North False Creek. Originally I wasn't sure about the location but I now think it's perfectly situated; anywhere in Downtown is less than a 40 minute walk and it's only a couple of blocks to a water taxi if you want to get to Granville Island. Also the walkway along False Creek is right across the street and a beautiful alternative to the Stanley Park seawall. I wasn't to keen being next to a casino but as the hotel's front desk is on the sixth floor of the complex you can easily avoid it entirely (as it was I dropped a fiver in a slot machine on a whim and won $57 on my first spin!).
All the staff at this hotel were a joy to deal with, from the concierge to the front desk. We hadn't even seen our room yet and were impressed. We had a junior king suite which was a very large corner room with a sitting area high enough for two couches and a coffee table. It's a very modern minimalist design, not my usual style but it fits the setting perfectly. The ceiling was actually just exposed concrete, sounds weird but it was cool. I loved the Illy expresso machine though they were a little stingy on pods. Nice bathroom with a large shower though the window to the room was odd (there's a privacy blind but it's controlled from the room not the shower!).
We had breakfast at Honey Salt and it was amazing. I'll write a review of it separately.
This was an amazing stay and I'll definitely be back.

I am lucky to travel quite a bit, both for work and pleasure. As an event host and performer I'm am booked into some very decent hotels, especially in Europe. When I found out I was going to be staying at the Douglas I went to the website and I thought it looked pretty good. Well the website does not do this place justice!
The minute we pulled up the doorman greeted me with a genuine smile and ushered us into the giant, sparkling lobby (it's shared with the adjoining JW Marriot.) The first thing that caught my eye was the casino on the second floor. Somehow I missed that on the website so I was very excited and spent a lot of time there. My room on the 16th floor was the perfect temperature, clean and well appointed with dark furnishings, plenty of seating, ample lighting, and plenty of outlets and places to charge my phone. The bathroom was a great size, well lit, and the large walk in shower had an overhead rainfall shower head. My room was literally so quite and comfy I felt so at home.
The Executive Lounge was a perk that made my stay even more enjoyable. I enjoyed all of the savory and sweet offerings and illy coffee throughout the day.
The location was perfect for me. Uber is new in Vancouver so I was happy to see it and most of my destinations were only a few dollars away. I even walked up to Davie Street one afternoon, a short brisk adventure that gave me a view of the city.
Overall I can't rave about the Douglas enough. I highly recommend it!

Rated as 4.5 stars we expected great things. Starting in the lobby it seemed really dark and the whole common area seemed empty with no real character. The room itself was dark with one of the light fixtures not working. No mini bar fridge and the ice machine was empty but when we asked for ice to be brought up to our room that requested seemed to be missed. The attached casino again seemed somewhat empty and characterless.
All in all compared to other hotels of similar ratings that we have stayed at this one fell well short of our expectations and holds no interest for a return visit.

To be fair, I am basing this review having to use a handicap room using crutches. First, handicap door in the lobby didn't work, and bellman offered no help opening the door, just stood and watched me struggle. The room has electronic doors that should open outside or inside, neither worked and door was to heavy to push when you have 1 foot and crutches even though I called twice to get fixed. Room had 2 bottles of water which they said are replenished daily, never happened. 1 day no housekeeping. There are nice things about the hotel, food was very good, the staff were very friendly, great location, connects to the JW Marriott which has a nice casino. When I spoke to Josh the manager, he was extremely apologetic and followed up with me after check out reassuring that my points were being addressed. I would not say I wouldn't return, but be careful if you need a handicap room.

Dear Mexmikecun Thank you kindly for taking the time to let us know your experience, Josh has shared the feedback with our engineering department and contacted myself after having the pleasure of sitting down with you prior to your departure. Engineering did let us know that they have been awaiting a external company to fix the door issue after you took the time to let us know of the issue, unfortunately we were unable to rectify the issues with the door with our onsite team. I apologize this was not communicated to you which should have been. Your experience has been shared with your Porter team and Housekeeping team and we thank you for taking the time to let us know when speaking with Josh and here. Kind Regards Paul Fraser Dual Director Front Office

+1
The Douglas is a sister hotel besides the JW Marriott at Parq Vancouver. Both are highly rated 5 star hotels while the Douglas has a leg up on its slightly more intimate feel and more unique decor.
Instead of having the lobby on the main floor like the JW, the Douglas has its lobby on the 6th floor of the building, secluded and away from the general public, making the check in and out experience more intimate and quieter. The counter is made of a single beautiful Douglas fir that is scented.
The hotel shares some of the same amenities as JW, such as the hot tub, but does not have access to the club lounge, which was slightly disappointing.
For elite guests, the Douglas makes up the lack of lounge with a beautifully presented in room breakfast which I highly recommend. The food is well prepared, fresh, and simply tasty.
Our room was the suite which had 1.5 bath including a his/her sink, beautiful view of the downtown core. The decor is on the darker, wood feel that reflects the hotel’s name. I would say the suites between here and the JW are equal, with different appointments. The only thing I didn’t love was the unfinished concrete ceiling as it’s choice of architectural language.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely return if opportunity arise. It is difficult to choose this hotel versus JW as they both have their charm and are similarly priced.

This hotel has a great location and access to amenities/restaurants being connected to the Parq Casino BUT it's not up to what I've experienced in other 5 star resorts for a few reasons:
Gym is average at best..smaller and limited equipment/machinery. No pool either.
You have to pay for wifi!
Noise in the rooms! Our room was on the 7th floor and my wife could not fall asleep because you can hear the music blaring from the D6 Lounge till 3 AM. Not sure if this effects other floors considering D6 is on the 6th floor and just below us...
Overall experience with staff was good but there's better options in the city for a 5-star including the JW Marriot in the same property.

Decided to stay here at Douglas for 1 night for a nice staycation and birthday celebration. Got assigned to a room on the 7th floor and everything was fine. The check in was seamless and front desk was great , they even sent a nice treat to the birthday celebrant and a kind note However around 10pm, the music from D/6 was loud and clear and we can hear it even if we turned the TV volume up. It went on until 3:02 am. With no warnings or whatsoever, the night turned out to be a disaster. Depending on the purpose of what you are looking for in a hotel, I would definitely not recommend this hotel if you want a relaxing weekend. Better off to stay at JW Parq which is on the other side. Douglas should do a better job informing guests about the noise!

Disappointed!
Pulled up to the entrance with a handicap card and asked if I could check to see if our room was ready and was told NO, go down two floors, park and walk back to the lobby!
If your staying at the Douglas you cannot check in with them, you check in at the JW Marriott. The line ( one line) had 15 people in front of us to check in!
Breakfast was a huge disappointment, we were confined to our room had to order room service with a very limited menu.
Our room had ONE CHAIR, so we took turns eating! This was for the entire week! Our room was so small we had to take turns walking in front of the bed, and we’re Titanium!
The room was very outdated, the ceiling was cracking. The artwork on the wall was a beach seen, but since it didn’t fit in the space they placed it vertical and it should of been placed horizontal, how tacky!! The lobby was full of a lot of employees standing around, mostly men with very stern faces, not too many smiles or happy employees.
The location is about the only good thing about it!
We had a great housekeeper, she loved her job and was always happy her name was Grace E.
We expressed our disappointment upon check out.
We do not plan on returning to either hotel.

Dear PaiaDave, Greetings from the DOUGLAS, Autograph Collection Hotel. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience during your stay with us. On behalf of the property, we sincerely apologize for the arrival experience that you encountered. I would like to review this situation with my team and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you in more detail. We pride ourselves on building strong connections with our guests and care deeply about their satisfaction at our hotel. I am truly sorry that certain design elements did not meet your expectations, the overall design of the DOUGLAS is inspired by a balance of city and nature, with the concrete ceilings paying homage to Vancouver’s architect, Arthur Ericson, who believed concrete to be ‘the marble of our time’. This aside, I am thankful for you detailing your experience as this is valuable feedback that we will take into consideration as we continue to look for ways to improve our product and services. Thank you very much for sharing your note about our housekeeper, we will be more than delighted to share that feedback with her and her team. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us and taking the time to pass on your feedback. Sincerely, Cassie Doyle Director of Room Operations

The service provided by the hotel is very good which made the hotel stay very welcoming. The rooms are functional and serve their purpose - reality you will not spend much time there. They are well appointed with a large TV and very comfy beds; however don’t be surprised to see an concrete ceiling. This is part of the decor - for me it felt like they had forgotten to paint the it during the ceiling. The restaurants in the hotel are great - after all they attached to the JW Marriott side of the hotel complex and you would not expect anything less from the JW.

This is my first time staying at this hotel. The hotel is very new and well maintained. I like the modern design. Service is top tier among the hotels I’ve stayed in Canada.
Checkin
Checkin was very smooth. Front desk greeted me warmly and since I've done mobile checkin, the gentleman was expecting me and recognized me as I walked over. I have a dog traveling with me. As soon as we arrived, our dog received treats.
Room
As a Titanium, I was able to use my SNA. The room was large, clean, bright, techy. I took a very relaxing shower and had a good rest on the comfy bed.
Lounge
The Douglas shares Lounge with JW Marriott next to it. It has been the best Lounge I’ve been in North America. It’s about the right size, with a good selection of snacks, food and drinks. Staff team is very professional. The service in lounge is the highlight during my stay. Racheal greeted me during my breakfast and her handwritten greeting card made my day as for loyal customer recognition. I highly appreciate her customer obsessions. Thank you for insisting the highest standard for the top Marriott brands. This executive lounge team is my favorite in North America, and I would say the level of service meets the already high bar as the top lounges in Asia. And certainly raising the lounge service bar in North America!
The top tier service would make me come back to the Douglas and JW Marriott again whenever I’m back to Vancouver.

Nope. There isn’t. That is for the staff.
Hot tub on the roof!
We didn't order room service, there are so many restaurants and cafes around. The Victor in the adjacent hotel was phenomenal.
