We spent 2 weeks in Dundarave suite for Christmas, it turns to a very special wonderful experience. It's sparkling clean and very comfortable, the kitchen settings is just like I was cooking at my own house, only ever nicer and better equipped, and the build-in temperature controlled wine cellar. I can tell whoever managing this place is so caring with their heart, we found the print out 6pages of user manual under the coffee table, it gives all the instructions towards everything, ex, how to use the Milk froth beside the Nepressor coffee machine, where is the extra portable electronic heater, various well rated restaurants on this street, whom you could contact when you have a question, etc. Like we even have a real land telephone set with local number for my parents to phone me at stay. This is my son's favorite if you can believe it, we have the key to access our mail box for his online shopping delivery. That was awesome.

I traveled to Vancouver for two weeks on business in December and didn't want to stay in another hotel over Christmas. I happened across Alma Bach Manor and thought I'd give it a try - I'm ecstatic I did!
My room was clean and cozy with amazing furnishings from all over the world. It felt like a home away from home - very tasteful and eclectic. I loved having a fireplace in the bedroom! The self catering kitchen was a great relief for traveler such as myself, and was well stocked with everything I needed for making a meal at home.
The fantastic owners (Carol and Manfred) were lovely, ensuring I had everything I needed including a great welcome basket with some essentials. They even invited me to join them for a drink in their apartment one evening!
The location of this place is fantastic - steps away from a direct bus to the heart of downtown. There are great restaurants and bakeries in walking distance - I recommend The Oakwood for drinks and dinner, and Tangs Bistro for fantastic Dim Sum. Best of all there is a little massage therapy studio with unbelievably cheap rates ($50 /hr massage) right around the corner. This place is unbelievable!
I'm ecstatic with this find and am rueful to post a great review lest the price increase :)

Dear Elizabeth, Thank you very much for taking the time to write to Trip Advisor. We are so delighted you enjoyed your stay in Alma Beach Manor over the holidays. We had just renovated the Locarno Suite complete with the fireplace which you can see from the bed, makes it very cozy on winter days. We too love our neighbourhood, walking everywhere makes life very enjoyable. Please come back in the spring to view all the lovely gardens along the residential streets, rather like a walk through a park! The massage place your are referring is called Royal Foot on the 2800 block of west 4th. We are regulars there ourselves. You must have perused the "Insider Secrets" a guide of our favourites places to dine, shop and explore along west 4th and Broadway? I have never written a negative review before, but after the treatment we received at Alma Beach, we felt we needed to share our experience. For starters, the owners agreed to meet us onsite at 5 pm and did not show up. There was no note. We were told by some other guests that there were no rooms available. The innkeepers did not return our phone calls for several hours. After a dozen phone calls to them they phoned us to say they would not check us in until 9:30 pm because 'they were going out to dinner'.
The place itself is a mess - we arrived to find spoiled food in the kitchen, a pair of underwear on the mainfloor bathroom counter and piles of laundry in the living room. When we finally met the owners, we asked to discuss the issues with them and we were told 'there was no issue' and 'they'd prefer we did not stay there.' So, we didn't, we stayed at the Holiday Inn. Sarcastically, they agreed we should share our grievances with the Better Business Bureau, and we have. We've also shared them with you.

I am writing in response to this negative review. We are a 41/2 star rated Bed and Breakfast, inspected by Canada Select which is part of BC Accomodation Guide. We have been in business for 8 years with only glowing reports. This person took the liberty of touring the private quarters of our home while we were not there. This private area is off limits to guests as it is the support of our business in the busy season. We process the laundry, ironing, folding, storage and preparation in our private quarters. This is not unlike any hotel support area where guests are not invited. The 9:30pm check in time was the guests suggestion as they were going for dinner. We had a last minute booking and our hosts, Carol and Manfred, were most accommodating, friendly and made us feel very much at home. The location is very convenient and in a good neighborhood. The apartment (one bedroom) was well equipped and very clean. The decor is superb and the whole house is well appointed. I would not hesitate to stay there again!

We have stayed at the Alma Beach Manor on more than one occasion--and we will definitely want to stay there again. We very much enjoy the comfy Ambleside Studio, situated in the front of the inn. For a couple, the size is perfect. The bedroom/sitting and kitchen/dining areas adjoin each other; separately, off the kitchen, is a bathroom that is sized more nicely than one might expect in a Studio. Everything is well-stocked, prettily appointed, technology-equipped (satellite/flat screen TV and WiFi), meticulously clean, and very quiet. Night or day, we have never heard a peep emanating from other areas, even from the nearby entry hall and stairway. There are some very nice touches--a Nespresso machine in the kitchen (as well as a "regular" full-sized coffee-maker and anything else you would need for food preparation), a telephone in the hall (if you need to use this rather than your own cell phone), and a welcome basket with tasty goodies (including bread to die for). The views to the little garden to the front and side of the property are so gratifying.
Located in the fabulous Kitsilano neighborhood, ABM is conveniently situated about midway between the city center to the east and the University of British Columbia (and its fantastic Anthropology Museum) to the west. A block from ABM are bus routes in either direction. (We once had an auto with us--and never used it!) However, you just may never wish to leave Kits! It provides blocks and blocks of fabulous walks and shopping at a mind-bending variety of little stores, markets, and restaurants. Just a 5-minute walk from ABM begins a lovely stroll to beaches and parks along Point Gray Road and English Bay.
Owners Manfred and Carol (the most congenial and accommodating proprietors you can imagine) have added to the ABM's array of accommodations a second Studio suite (the Locarno, although we were unable to view it on our recent visit). If you are going to have visitors, or just need to spread out, you may want to consider a one-bedroom unit. Manfred and Carol personally showed us a couple that are available on the second floor--larger-sized, elegant, and lovely! If you are traveling with children, family, or others, the owners can make even larger accommodations available.
There are not a lot of properties of this sort and caliber in Kitsilano. We recommend this place without reservation--though be sure to make one as ABM is a very popular place!

As our home was being renovated for three months we looked at various places where we could stay. Immediately we were taken with the charm of the manor and were impressed with care and attention the owners, Carol and Manfred, took in showing the suites to us.
We loved it here and moved into the Dundarave Suite. The furnishings are elegant and comfortable. The bed is heavenly. Our suite was beautifully maintained as was the entire manor thanks to the owners and their staff members, Rachelle and Tim.
We felt so at home here and appreciated how both owners and staff were most hospitable always
greeting us and offering to help in any way we might need.
The manor is centrally located making it easy to travel to all destinations within the city.
If you are looking for a vacation rental by owner please be sure to include the Alma Beach Manor.

What a fantastic stay. Two better hosts you will not find than Manfred and Carol. We were pampered with first class accommodation, gourmet breakfasts and a couple who made sure that our stay was memorable in every way. It is a great location near the beach, close to public transportation, downtown and Stanley Park. We give Alma Beach B&B our highest Recommendation.

Stay in the heart of a neighborhood instead of a stuffy hotel. Lots of walking of people and dogs too. Area is surrounded by restaurants and activities too. Full kitchen with modern appliances and even a welcome basket

There is no front desk. There is a keypad to enter the building, and one for the unit. The owner sends you a 4 digit code for each by email before you arrive. Worked fine and nice to not have to carry a key. There was good wireless, and the code was in a binder of information in the unit. While the owner and his assistant are not on site, I was given a phone number to call if I needed help. I didn't need to contact them. Hope this helps!
Take the Canada Line Sky Train to downtown, catch a cab across the street at Four Seasons Hotel, few minutes ride to Alma Beach! Easy.
