I was attending meetings in Vancouver and chose to forego my regular hotel choice as my colleagues had recommended the St. Regis Hotel.

When I booked my reservation the staff were helpful and agreed to make a note of my request for a high floor.

I arrived at the hotel a few hours before check-in. The staff was on the phone and did not acknowledge my arrival (no eye contact or wave in my direction). I waited patiently as he continued the phone conversation. Another staff entered the lobby and addressed the front desk person. The front desk person answered the staff’s question and then continued the phone conversation for another 2 minutes. After completing the phone call, the front desk person greeted me. I let him know that I had arrived before check-in time and asked if I could store my bags until then. He agreed, placed a baggage tag on my bag and told me that it would be in my room after check-in.
I returned to the St Regis later that afternoon. A different front desk person greeted me, checked me in, and told me that my bag had been placed in my room. He told me I was on the second floor. I asked if I could be moved to a higher floor and he said that that this was not possible as the room was already considered occupied because my bag was placed in there earlier.

When I entered the room I noticed that it was really small. The furnishings and décor were modern, clean, and inviting. The window was adjacent to a language school with multiple floors of classrooms with floor-to-ceiling windows. I closed the window curtains for privacy. The bathroom was also small but well appointed.

After meetings, I returned to the hotel later that evening and ordered room service. I asked for some recommendations and was told that the salmon was the best choice. I was impressed when my meal arrived in 10min. It was presented nicely and they even brought a chilled St Regis-branded carafe of water to accompany my meal (a nice touch, I thought). The meal itself was disappointing.

I turned on the TV and found that the TV remote worked intermittently.

My favourite part of the stay was the bed. It was very comfortable—the linens and the pillows were divine! I had a great sleep. I didn’t hear the traffic noise over night, but did hear the garbage/delivery trucks around 6am (it wasn’t disruptive).

I went downstairs for the breakfast (included in hotel stay). There were three options to choose from (omelet, continental, traditional) and it included juice and coffee. The breakfast was good and service was what you would expect.

When I checked out, I took the hotel account statement that was left under my door overnight. I approached the front desk and told them I wished to check out and required an itemized receipt. The front desk person told me I could keep my account statement. I explained that I needed an itemized receipt (to show the room service charge of food and not alcohol) and he said that it comes by email (Note: I did receive a post-stay email from the St. Regis that encouraged me to write a review on Trip Advisor but it did not include any account statement information).

I was not asked if I enjoyed my hotel stay and was dismissed with a “have a good day” and then he turned to another staff person and engaged in conversation.

Summary: The hotel location is excellent for business, shopping, dining, or other activities in the city. The room is modern, very clean, and is suitable for one guest (a little small for two, in my opinion). I was disappointed with the service and a few other items during my stay. It is possible that I may have caught staff in a bad moment and that the other items have a reasonable explanation. I will likely choose another hotel for my future business meetings in Vancouver; however, I am curious if my first experience was not illustrative of St. Regis’ regular practice and may give it another try.

The staff at this hotel went above and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable. Everyone is friendly, helpful with directions and quick to get to the elevator before you! Great downtown location, very close to Robson and some great shopping. My room was on the first floor and a bit noisy the first 2 nights, but I expected that on a Fri/ Sat! Starbucks, Tim’s and David’s tea are right outside, and breakfast is served daily (exceptional service- please tip these hard working staff members!) My only recommendation is to ask if your room has a tub, as mine didn’t...bit of a disappointment. I cannot recommend this hotel enough- very tastefully decorated, clean and comfy beds. Would stay here again anytime!

Pros: The stay was uneventful in a good way. The front desk is caring although under-staffed in my opinion. WiFi is great. The staff arranged for microwave in my room because I informed them of the need in advance. The housekeeping is prompt and do a better than usual job. I notices a lot of little niceties.

Cons: I'm used to having a heavy breakfast. This hotel is the first hotel in my experience that has a fixed size breakfast limited to 3 combinations. I would urge the hotel to change because even with a week long stay the breakfast got boring start of the day.
Tip: Try their pizza.

BTW, I stayed in the room whose pic adorns this review page.

Thank-you very much for taking the time to review our hotel. We take pride in offering our guests "more than you expect, everything you deserve," which includes a wide range of included amenities like the City's only full included breakfast, bottled FIJI water, access to the Steve Nash Sports Club, and more. In planning our breakfast service, we tried to balance offering the best quality with a menu simple enough that our kitchen can cook over 100 breakfasts very quickly during our peak season. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you have any other comments to share. Thank-you for making us part of your visit to Vancouver.
