Sonder The Sunset hotel garners acclaim for its enviable location, nestled close to Vancouver's myriad of attractions and dining options, and its array of praised amenities like keyless entry and tidy, well-furnished spaces. Guests are welcomed by a stylish and homely atmosphere, while the modern, comfortable rooms receive nods for their home-like amenities. Though the hotel's cleanliness usually meets high standards, occasional lapses are noted. Service is commended for its efficiency, particularly the app-based support. However, opinions on value are divided, with affordability applauded by some, yet others grapple with unexpected costs.

This accommodation was perfect for us (two adults and a teen).
It was in a quiet residential area and near to some of the main areas for shopping and food like Granville Island, Davie street and Robson Street. Also 5-10 min from sea wall walk and Sunset Beach. We felt very safe in this area.
We stayed in room 805, it was very clean and comfortable. Aircon was good. The space was larger than expected, as some places use wide lens photos to make places seem bigger. The bedroom is completely separate from the living room and the sofa bed is large and comfortable according to our Son.
The kitchen and bathroom space were also a very good standard and the kitchen well equipped (large fridge freezer for a holiday accommodation).
Clean towels etc readily available. There is a small laundry room (2 dollars a cycle) which I didn’t know about at first so I took my clothes to a friend’s to clean. It was a little frustrating to notice the room when we were looking at the locker spaces but I did use it once and staff were helpful. The Sonder app was encouraging the use of a local laundro matt which sounded good too. It didn’t mention the hotel one, that I noticed.
Overall we were really happy here for a week.
The staff were really polite and helpful, couldn’t have asked for better. Would absolutely recommend.

The location was good for everything we did. It is close to Sunset Beach so we were able to see a great sunset! That is also where we could get the ferry to Granville Island. The staff was very helpful with all of our needs. There was an issue with the AC. It never got fully fixed so the Sonder was nice enough to let us check out late to help out.

The Sonder accommodation was perfectly situated for getting around the city - just a couple of minutes to bus stops, food, bars, and the beach. It was clean and modern, with a comfy bed and great seating and lighting. It was easy to top up on essentials when needed. You didn’t need to talk to anyone - the app had all the info we required and love that we didn’t need a physical key to access anything. Would recommend!

I knew before we arrived that I needed to get a pass to access the car park, so I parked in the loading bay out the front and went into reception. I was checked in and issued the door keys, which also work on the carpark gates.

From reading previous reviews, I knew the underground parking garage had a 90 degree turn to get into it. I was driving a Jeep Compass, and although tight, I was able to successful enter and exit the parking garage – however, from the amount of visible paint ‘scrappage’ on the walls, it was evident others had not been able to. The higher level outside parking garage had larger spaces, but both levels were secure.

We had a very large open plan room combining lounge, TV, desk, dining table and full kitchen. There was a patio door from the lounge area.

The bedroom was very spacious with a large and comfortable bed, plenty of storage including bed-side tables. There was a balcony from the bedroom, which had 2 chairs on.

The bathroom had plenty of space and towels. We had a bath with a shower over and the sink was within the bathroom.

The laundry room had 2 washing machines and 2 dryers. Both were $2 per cycle and were very spacious. I only actually needed to run one wash cycle and one dry cycle. Reception were able to change a $10 note for coins.

The hotel was still enforcing Covid-19 restrictions, and it was mandatory to wear a face mask in the lobby, elevator and communal areas like the laundry room.

Also Covid-19 related, the breakfast policy had been changed. As we had full itineraries, we couldn’t wait for an undetermined time to collect a hot breakfast. We completed and handed in the breakfast form the day before, then collected the bag at the requested time the following morning. I can’t remember everything but the cold choices included bagel, croissant, yogurt, butter, jam, peanut butter, an apple or orange and bottles of fruit juice choices. While this wasn’t ideal, we didn’t go hungry and fully understand and support hotels that are continuing to enforce restrictions.

Reception staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Excellent location, great space. While not providing room service or other hotel amenities it makes up for it with affordable rates and personalized details. Vancouver is an expensive city so finding a comfortable inexpensive place to stay in downtown was definitely a highlight on this trip.

The Sunset is a small hotel whose one bedroom suites have full kitchens. The location is ideal--walking distance to Stanley Park, Denman Street, Yaletown, the ferry connecting to Granville Island and other city destinations.
The staff is A+ in all respects, led by a competent and knowledgeable general manager, Michael Wright. They all have concierge skills and a helpful attitude. We would never stay anywhere else in Vancouver.

We loved staying with Sonders, and this was definitely the best place we stayed during our week in Vancouver. Although we were initially disappointed that our 10th floor room was facing away from the ocean, we still loved the view of the city. The furniture was modern and comfortable, giving us ideas for our apartment back home. We also appreciated that the friendly staff let us check in two ours early, and the luggage storage room was safe and secure. Our only regret is that we only got to stay there one night! Amazing hotel and highly recommended.

Pros: Large apartment size space with full kitchen. Beautiful view from balcony!
Parking included which is hard to find in Vancouver without a large extra fee.
Cons: Breakfast was basically discouraged due to the complicated and ridiculous way it must be ordered after 8:00 am each day (for THAT morning) and then a wait of one to one and a half hours to go back to lobby and pick up if hot is ordered. We took their hint and ate breakfast out which took away from the value. No room cleaning - upon calling was told well, we clean ONLY if you request it. Nothing about that mentioned at check in. Location is a long walk from most of the main action in the city. The large room was extremely dated with stains, worn out furniture and holes in the drapery. You are REQUIRED to wear a mask in the lobby, hallways and elevator. Not suggested, required. This was the only space that required it our entire visit in Canada over a 2 week period and was quite annoying. Why not make it optional like everywhere else? We do not recommend this hotel and will not be staying there again.

We arrived several hours early from a cruise well before the normal check-in time. We were grateful that the hotel staff took custody of our luggage and secured them while we were gone. When we arrived several hours later were given our luggage in the lobby. I thought the hotel could have placed our luggage inside of our rooms prior to our arrival. We felt the rooms were spacious. We did not like the noisy air conditioners especially the one in the bedroom because it was in the window, and we had to close the drapes over it so we could have privacy from the nearby high-rise buildings, city lights as well as the early morning sun. We had to wear ear plugs to deaden the noise from the air conditioner, and since the AC was covered by the drapes the room got warm enough that hampered our sleep. The bathroom was well stocked with supplies. The washer/dryer worked well. When I asked the lady working at the front desk if the washer/dryer accepted US coins her answer was, "Where are you?" It was as if she was trying to belittle me. Why not a straight and courteous answer such as, "I'm sorry. The machines only accept Canadian coins, but I'd be happy to help you with change." The location was good that there were many eateries a few blocks away that were within walking distance. The hotel isn't far from nearby Stanley Park, and the coupon for the local bike rental, English Bay Bike Rental, was appreciated. The bike shop was very attentive, polite, and the bikes, helmets and locks were very good. I thank you for asking for our review. I hope you found our survey was beneficial, and we wish you the very best with the operation of your business.

Thank you for taking time to let us know your thoughts on your stay. We're pleased that you appreciated having your luggage stored upon your early arrival. With regard to the placement of your luggage into your suite, we do when possible. However, in some cases we don't assign a guest suite until all checkouts are done, in which case placement of luggage isn't possible. Our well appointed suites are among the most spacious in the downtown area, we're pleased you enjoyed. The air conditioners have certainly been put through the ringer with the heat we've been experiencing, which may explain the noise being made as they try to keep suites cool. It's unfortunate that this interfered with your rest. The inhouse washer & dryer definitely are a blessing for those travelling and in need of washing clothes. We hope that the conversation regarding the type of coins needed for the washer & dryer was simply a miscommunication, our apologies, as polite and courteous service is always our goal. We'll look forward to having you back on your next visit to lovely Vancouver. Kind Regards, David A.- Guest Services Manager

Nothing specific was wrong but a whole lot wasn't right. Overall the place had a "crash here until I reconcile with my wife" vibe, not "fabulous Vancouver vacation".
Things that were not quite wrong but weren't right. Terrible lighting, a few cheap LED lamps with awkward switches and sterile blue light. Uncomfortable furniture. Monochrome boring decor. The room was air conditioned, technically, by an ancient rattling window unit half blocked by the curtain. The building is old and noisy, hearing everything happening in the hallway and much of rooms above and below. (Ear plugs on the nightstand! I guess they know.) My first room, #202, was dingy and sad and with a balcony 4 feet over the alleyway parking lot. They moved me to a better room but still not great. (Facing Burnaby and a higher floor are preferable.)
The thing that I keep coming back to is the carpet in the elevator and hallways. Old filthy industrial carpet, years of chewing gum ground into it. The rooms themselves are nicer and cleaner but that carpet set the tone every single time I came and left the Sonder Sunset.
The good things.. The location is central and very convenient to Davie Village. The automated check-in stuff worked fine.  The kitchen was adequately set up, you could probably cook a full basic meal there. The room wasn't actively bad, I felt safe and it had the minimum of what I needed.
But I chose to cut my trip early in part because the apartment wasn't very comfortable. Which leads to one specific complaint; they have a very unfriendly cancellation policy, including absolutely no refund for checking out a few days early. That was stated up front so I can't quite complain, but I sure wasn't happy about it either.

Kim Yes as building was built like an apartment, all rooms have their own private balcony, dining area and kitchen within all suites For your truck we can try to put into upper gates parking area, and if not we do have many large spaces in our back alley. As we are downtown we can say we are as sate as we can and do have security cameras around the parking area to further insure safety. As we are just off the 24 hour Davie Village there are many people walking around so will feel safe at all times Walking and transit is best way to see city once here as parking through out is expensive and hard to find. And front desk can help you with any directions and transit locations

Once you get to hotel we will help you with this. We use English bay bike rentals as they have great bikes and cost for our guests and most important, they are just like the hotel. Will help with all your requests and show best areas to bike ( and they are just located down the hill from us at English bay) If wanting to rent for more the just a day, they will also allow to keep over night as we have a secure storage onsite Fyi the mobi bike is a bike share run through the city and is best for point to point but if wanting to explore, englishbaybikerentals.way better including cost
