The hotel was beautiful and nostalgic...an actual room key! Super easy check in and out. We stayed in a king suite with water view, the room was perfect! Almost felt like we stepped back in time. Had breakfast at the lobby restaurant next morning it was ok. It was breakfast. Would I stay here again? Absolutely, 100%.
This was our third stay at The Sylvia. Its friendly and very helpful staff made our vacation even better. The location (across the road from the beach at English Bay) is ideal for those who do not want to be stuck in the middle of the city surrounded by traffic noise. It's only a couple of blocks' walk to the bus and for the walkers, it is very close to Vancouver's gem, Stanley Park. Many restaurants of all kinds are nearby, and the Sylvia's own restaurant offers a nice selection of menu items right on the site. Many travelers return to this hotel for all their Vancouver visits... what could be a better recommendation?
I have to say, that I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the hotel. It is old but it’s comfortable. We stayed at the suite. That being said even though it is old, so is the heating system and we were there in the middle of November. Right away upon my request, they sent me an electric heater. I was so impressed with the service and I will definitely return there again. The restaurant and the waiters and waitresses and even room service was delivered first class in my opinion. Plus very close to the beach made it even more inviting. Thank you to the staff of the Sylvia hotel.
My wife and I have stayed at this lovely, friendly hotel for nearly 10 years. Typically once or twice a year. This time we were surprised with very loud guests in the room next to us. The front desk sent security up twice to deal with them, but the noise continued.
The Sylvia hotel is what you expect from a classic heritage hotel. Hotel restaurant went out of there way to accommodate my wife's birthday. Recommend going for walks along seawall. A lot of good restaurants in walking distance.
Traveling with my adult daughter, I wanted a separate bedroom, kitchenette, convenient locality, views. All these needs were met. Only one issue, trying to book a table for dinner in the hotel: they took my booking but didn't allocate a table even though I had discussed this with the host during the day.
Everything about this hotel was perfect. We didn't try the restaurant/bar, but if the rest of the establishment is any indicator, it is probably top notch. Waterfront, friendly and well trained staff, big clean room with very comfy mattress, modern bathroom, and a nice sense of history and tradition. Easily walkable to great coffee (Delaney's) and restaurants. If you like Japanese food, Kingyo was fantastic.
The room was beautiful and spacious. The bathroom had a deep tub which was nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. We had a delicious dinner in the evening in the lounge and an equally delicious breakfast in the dining room.
Every time I stay at the Sylvia it is a quality experience. The staff are incredibly friendly in all areas of the hotel from the front desk to the restaurant the cleaning staff. I absolutely love the location of the hotel and always enjoy a pleasant and relaxing stay. I recommend it to all of my friends, and those who have tried it share my experience.
We like to stay at the Sylvia 1-2 times a year and this last time was very nice. There have been times where it was very cold in the room but they will bring you a space heater. The staff is very accommodating and will get you what you need.
