Stayed for three nights at the Sylvia. Ocean view room. Turned on visiting Stanley Park and the Vancouver aquarium there is no better place to stay. Quiet, clean, unbeatable location. Nice bed. Very reasonable rate. Would definitely stay again.

I had been wanting to stay at this hotel for several years, attracted by its oldish character and great location. The Sylvia is located in a really cool area of the city, across the street from the English Bay Beach and only a couple of blocks away from Stanley Park. I took advantage of that for some early morning jogs...

Thank-you for your well written review of your stay with us. I was happy to read that you enjoyed the location and took advantage of the seawall across the street. The renovations in the lounge and restaurant just add to the experience and view of English Bay while enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner. I will pass along your comments to...

The room my husband and I stayed in was spacious, well-appointed and clean. This hotel is right on English bay and on the lip of the gorgeous Stanley Park sea wall walk. The hotel has a nice cocktail lounge as well as a dining room - both with great views of the bay. One of Vancouver's best kept secrets!

This place is wonderful. They don't just allow dogs, they are very friendly to them. We stayed there in one of the rooms with a kitchen and living room. Our room had tons of space for the dogs to play and relax when we weren't there and we were directly across from the park where we could walk them easily...

When I come to Vancouver, the Sylvia is my top choice for places to stay. What do I most like about the Sylvia? 1. The staff--everyone is unfailingly pleasant, professional and helpful. I have the sense that each person who works at the Sylvia feels a personal responsibility to make things go well. It is as if they are inviting...

Have stayed at the Sylvia over several years. Superb location on English Bay and the sea wall. Staff always courteous, helpful, friendly and professional. Prices can't be beat. Hotel not the most modern, but clean and with character.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
