Bed was very comfortable. Room was a nice size. 2 bedrooms. But I think this hotel is overpriced and I believe most would agree . It's a nice hotel for 20 years ago. But for $450 a night it should be MUCH better. This is more of a $175 hotel. I think the price is based mostly on it's location...

We stayed here for 3 nights from the 7th May 2017. The hotel was lovely and we had an enjoyable stay. We were first time tourists to Vancouver and we soon discovered that the downtown Vancouver area wasn't worth spending any time in, so to stay at the Sylvia and be right near the Bay and Stanley Park was a...

The location is often mentioned in the reviews on this site, with the beach across the street and Stanley Park only blocks away. We are located close enough to downtown but far enough away to enjoy less hustle and bustle of the downtown core. I will look into your comments about one of the staff and will review with the...

I had previously lived in Vancouver for several years and always wanted to try this place - now that we've moved away, we had the chance and really enjoyed it. The Sylvia is an old but well maintained hotel just across from English Bay in the West End. For the location, the price is great - I would recommend this...

We stayed in the Sylvia Hotel in Vancouver for 3 nights. Hotel is an old historical building and an iconic hotel in the city. Ideally sited in English Bay, it is perfectly located for sea side walks, Stanley Park and downtown. With restaurant and bar it has a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are a bit old fashioned, but that...

I appreciate a well written review, short and to the point with some good information. Yes we are a heritage site hotel (105 years young) and still serving guests from on of the best locations in the Vancouver. We have many different room types and sizes so if you call the hotel directly to book we can try and find...

We've stayed at the Sylvia Hotel for many years, whenever we come up to Vancouver from Seattle. The rooms are good sized, everything is well-built in an old-fashioned way that you don't get any more, but amenities are up to date. The staff are friendly and helpful and the views of English Bay are lovely. Peaceful and close to Stanley...

We stayed 2 nights and it was fantastic! We took the train to the bus stop and walked two blocks to get there. It was an easy walk. The hotel staff were more than willing to accommodate. The room was clean and we had a pretty view. This place is walking distance to a beach, two beer pubs, the laughing...

Thank-you for staying with us for two nights and saying the you would return again if in the Vancouver area. We are a heritage hotel (105 years old) and we have stayed true to the heritage of the building. Some of the bathrooms are smaller than some hotels but as mentioned the hotel is spotless and clean. I was happy...

There is no hotel I love better than the Sylvia. Although it has been updated, it still is a wonderful change from the sterile and cold chain hotels. I have stayed here since the 80's and every time I just fall in love with it all over again. No better view or location in Vancouver. Small enough to be intimate,...

We had a lovely view of English Bay from our room and from the hotel restaurant. the room and especially the bathroom were small but not a problem for us. The location near Stanley Park was convenient, scenic, and walkable. The service was excellent. Fortunately we didn't have hot weather since there didn't appear to be air-conditioning. A charming place...

The Sylvia hotel is gem and I will stay again!! We had a huge suite with a full kitchen, huge bedroom and a beautiful living room with fabulous views of English Bay. This hotel is pet-friendly and doesn't charge a pet fee and the area is perfect for walking dogs.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
