The furnishing is a bit old and there was no fridge in the room and only a coffee making machine which made tea making a bit problematic, but the hotel atmosphere was comfortable and the desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The position of the hotel is good with easy access to the park, plenty of good eating nearby... More

We recently stayed at the Sylvia Hotel for 5 days and whilst we enjoyed the ambience of the old hotel, we found the final bill to be much higher than what we expected. We got caught out with the parking fee $18 per day and the Canadian taxes. Our double queen room + kitchen was perfect for our needs although... More

I am sorry that you did not see the value in staying with us this year. The price of parking in the city is high but we have the cheapest parking in the area at $18.00 as most places you would be charged $22-$30.00 per night. I am sorry that we cannot do anything about the taxes. I hope you... More

A beautiful old hotel covered in Virginia crawler which turns red in the fall. So gorgeous! We had a great room---very spacious with 2 beds, a sitting area and an extra bedroom. Live entertainment in the lounge several nights a week. The best location in Vancouver---right across from English Bay and close to Stanley Park and downtown. Very friendly and... More

We love you too! The vines that cover the front of the hotel are a landmark for the area and yes as they change colour the vines get bright red in the fall and bright green in the spring. The location is great for sight seeing or meetings downtown. Please come back again so we can serve you again. Thanks... More

We spent five days in this delightful hotel. This is an old world, vintage kind of hotel, with a lively, aware, competent and friendly staff. The hotel is brilliantly located on the shore of magnificent English Bay. You are a two-minute seawall walk from Stanley Park. You are a one minute walk from the lively, hip urban atmosphere of Denman... More

I stayed in Vancouver for one night, on my way back from Alaska to Wisconsin. Being a Brit, I immediately felt at home as I checked into this hotel on English Bay, in Vancouver. Stayed at this hotel for four days and found the location, the staff and general ambiance excellent. If you need to be in the downtown area, then this hotel is not for you. I wasn't sure what the hotel would be like, but it is a very impressive property. I would stay there again without hesitation. The rooms were very nice and the restaurant and lounge had great food and drinks. It is an old, quaint hotel that is worth visiting.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
