This hotel has a fabulous location - basically at the end of popular Denman Street in Vancouver and right on English Bay and the Seawall. It also has history, being over 100 years old and is picturesque, being covered with ivy. Things of note: -- The entire hotel (except the lounge) has a musty smell. You get used to it...

The location is always mentioned by guests writing reviews because in a major city to have the views and beach right across the street is special and being so close to the downtown core the Sylvia Hotel has the best location. Thank-you for mentioning the cleanliness of the rooms and how comfortable the beds are, after all we do "sell...

Authentic last-millennium feel throughout this hotel. What's not to like about creaky floor boards and moaning door hinges? For all those allergic to sheetrock walls, robotic entry systems and clinically-appointed foyers, Sylvia (as her olde-world name suggests) is a fine, rustic alternative.

Welcome to our guests from Portland. With over 100 years of service we are a heritage site and are proud to stay close to our heritage and the offer the service of days gone by. We are not for everyone, however with that being said who does not want great service and a great location and great value? I guess...

We stayed one night, Valentine's night, in this Historic Hotel which I've always been intrigued with, being a lifelong lower mainland resident! The room was a good size, older (which I expected), and clean. If you are wanting a modern hotel room and hotel, this isn't the place for you. The bed was very comfy. The staff at the front...

Happy belated Valentines day and thanks for staying with us. I appreciate when guests mention how clean our rooms are. In my opinion you should not even have to mention that as it is so important and should be the minimum standard, however the housekeepers like reading it. The Be Vancouver site does offer great packages and deals during the...

The hotel is very charming and makes one feel they are back 100 years ago. The rooms are a bit tired but they are charming, and ours was quite large. Parking fees were better then some of the other local hotels. And it is nice being waterfront to English Bay. A good experience all around.

Thank-you for staying with us and taking time to write a review. You are correct we are over 100 years old and guests keep coming back year after year. The location of the hotel is popular as well. We have tried to keep the parking rates as low as possible and compared to the local area we are one of...

I suppose the best way to sum the Sylvia up, is you get what you pay for. Pros: Parking is cheaper than anywhere else downtown, at around $18 for the day/night. Cheap price Location is fantastic, right on English Bay and close to food, restaurants, etc No charge for pets to stay there Great history to the place, it's been...

First off, thank-you for writing a review. Your "Pro" comments are fair and accurate, most places in Vancouver do charge between $25-35.00 or more per night for parking. The location is the best in the city in my opinion and we do not charge extra for pets where most if not all other hotels charge $25-$35.00 per pet per night....

We have been going to the Sylvia for 44 Years..our go-to place in Vancouver. So ..... one could say some of the rooms need some work, but the location on English Bay is what keeps us going back. That and the staff who are usually friendly and helpful. The one downside this trip is the food offered...not quite up to...

Thank-you for your loyalty, 44 years and counting. We appreciate your business. I was concerned about the comment about the food. We just changed the menu at the beginning of the month and would like to hear more about what you ordered and what you did not like about the changes. So far our comment cards have been very positive...

We loved staying in the Sylvia-- excellent service, the room was spacious and well lit. A wonderful location and a really lovely heritage hotel. We most definitely would return. However one of the days we were there I had occasion to shower around noon-- there literally was NO hot water, no matter how long I let the tap run. It...

I read your review and I have a question, did you call the front desk to report your concern? The reason I ask is, we have the best boilers in the business and are only a few years old. this is the only time in 6 years that I have been the General Manager that a guest has mentioned this...

Stayed in the Sylvia for a one night stop over with friends. The 2 rooms (2 Queens + 1 queen) were clean, comfortable and quiet. 2 queens room was quite spacious. Staff were friendly and courteous and the hotel was located close to attractions such as Stanley park by car.

I love staying at this classic old-world hotel. This 112 year old lady sits regally on the shores of English Bay and her staff look after you as though you had stepped back in time to a day when service mattered. "Grande Dame of English Bay" sounds official then, we are a heritage site and our location on English Bay does make our property unique. People make the experience and this is no exception. The Sylvia might be old, but she has loads of character. And fantastic people. Every one of them. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
