We stayed 3 nights at the Buchan Hotel for holidays. The hotel is in a quiet street, while the busy Robson street is only one block further. It is easy to walk to the city centre. Also buses are nearby. The room was clean and spacious, the shared bathroom and toilets were fine and clean. We were here in May,...

Mediocre. The beds were hard, amenities nonexistent. Yes, it was historic, but not comfortable. The gentleman at the desk was helpful at finding a taxi, but not much else was offered. We would not stay again.

I was impressed with the hospitality of the staff at The Buchan Hotel. You get real value for your money as you cannot get such comfort in such a prime location like at the low rates charged. And what is more, the Bayshore is only 5 - 10 minutes walk from the Hotel, so you can enjoy the Coastal walk...

Delightful. Simple. Clean. Staff excellent. Great price. Make sure to check if your room will include a private toilet and shower, though, or whether you'll need to use the shared ones down the hall. Still worth it!

This hotel is 1.5 short blocks from Stanley Park and an easy walk to both English Bay & Coal Harbour. English Bay is especially enjoyable to walk along, lined with a beach, cycling, rollerblading & walking paths, gardens & sculptures and restaurants & lots of people. The hotel is surrounded by mid rise apartment buildings, most older, some with interesting Art...

The Buchan Hotel is located in a very beautiful part of Vancouver, very close to English Bay and Stanley Park. This is an older hotel so you need to know that you will not have some of the normal amenities you might expect at a newer hotel, they will warn you that there is no elevator (believe them) and because...

Conveniently located for a decent price. Older hotel with some character and perhaps not the best sound proofing. Very friendly staff. Close to lots of restaurants and walking distance to Stanly Park.

Location cannot be beat. Excellent restaurant downstairs. The coffee served in the lobby is fantastic. Rooms are clean and simple. If your plan is to be out and about in Vancouver, this is a great spot to be. Walking distance to the ocean, the sea wall, Stanley Park, restaurants, and shopping.

We loved the Buchan Hotel. The location was great, near Stanley park and bus stops. Just be aware there is no elevator, so you may have to carry your luggage up 1 or 2 flights of stairs. For location and value this is the place to stay.

Lovely hotel in the West End. Close to Stanley Park Best value hotel in the city as long as you don't object to shared washroom facilities. They do have rooms with private bath but sharing is not a hassle with plenty of washrooms on each floor.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
