Detailed Reviews
Gorgeous place! I felt I was staying in the lovely home of a dear friend, rather than a paid establishment. Beautiful and tasteful antique furniture and furnishings throughout. As an interior designer, I really appreciated the thoughtful appointments and the wonderful ambience in every room. Thanks to Covid, I was not able to enjoy the lounge and dining areas, except to admire them while passing through but a delicious take-out breakfast was available as the alternative to sit-down service and my room overlooked the little courtyard oasis, which very pleasant. The hosts provided flawless check-in instructions and a binder of helpful information in the room that made for smooth sailing. Their Covid protocols are excellent and the whole house is very clean. Super quiet and walkable location with literally dozens of restaurants within a few minutes to a half hour from the inn. Also great proximity to Stanley Park. An excellent experience all round. Highly recommended.

We loved our stay at this bed and breakfast! So much nicer then staying in a hotel. Perfect location. We were able to walk to the beach & Stanley park, rent bikes, walk to restaurants and parking is provided If you reserve a spot prior to your stay. Check in is easy with no issues and we were able to check in early on your own. Coffee & breakfast in our room was also amazing! Thank you!!

We enjoyed our stay at the English Bay Inn. Room was clean and had all amenities we required. The location makes it super easy to walk to English Bay, Stanley Park and of course a tonne if restaurants. Unfortunately due to COVID, we weren’t able to enjoy breakfast in the dining room, but they offered breakfast in the room which was appreciated. Thanks again! Hope to see you again soon!

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Vancouver, British Columbia and had the good fortune to stay at The English Bay Inn. We had read about the Inn in travel books and web sites. Nothing prepared us for the wonderful accommodations which awaited us, or the beautiful, friendly city of Vancouver. The English Bay Inn is a lovely Inn situated in the best area of Vancouver, the West End. It is walking distance to Stanley Park, and the harbor, as well as many of the lovely beaches surrounding the city. We rented bikes for the day and rode throughout the park and over to Granville Island. The next day we rode a public bus to Yalesville and explored the historic areas of Yalesville and Gastown, walking back to the Inn via Canada Place and the harbor. The Inn's owner, Bobin, made our stay truly wonderful! His hospitality and incredible scones are well worth the trip. We had a lovely room overlooking a small garden. It was a quiet retreat after a busy day of sight seeing. I highly reccomend a visit to Vancouver and a stay at the English Bay Inn.

What a marvelous place to stay! Great location, just two blocks from the Bay and also two blocks from wonderful restaurants. The west end has an amazing variety of great places to eat: African and Maylasian among them. As a single woman, I'd say that it's a safe neighborhood to walk in at night. My room faced a lovely garden and was very quiet: I rarely heard the other guests. The bed had a featherbed on top of the mattress -- it was so comfortable I want to buy one for myself. Breakfast was always delicious: hot scones with butter and sliced fruit every day, plus a variable meal, including crab & rice wraps one day, quiche another day. There's also sherry and port by the fireplace. Helen and Boban were terrific: at one point, during breakfast by the fireplace, I pretended that this was my house and they were there just to take care of me! What a lovely fantasy! I really enjoyed my stay, and would definitely stay here again, and I would recommend it to my friends.

My wife and I fully agree with all the wonderful things others say about comfort and location. Our personal lack of comfort, though, was due to the absence of anyone on the premises after breakfast. All guests were alone in the house without a manager or staff person present. We had several things come up that promted attempts to reach someone in charge. The afternoon before we left, there being only guests in the house, we called the general number for the B and B and reached an answering machine. No one called back.
The second episode occurred the following morning as we began to leave around 6:30 for the airport. Unfortunately for us, I had left our passports in a drawer in the room. That was a stupid blunder on my part but could have been easily resolved had we been able to get back in the Inn. There being no answer to continuous ringing and knocking at the door, my wife called the general number for English Bay Inn. The breakfast host was on his way but lived forty minutes away and was just leaving.
The story ended well when a very nice, elderly woman responded to the incessant banging on the door - I am quite sure we greatly disturbed every guest in the house - and we managed to make it to the airport with no time to spare and having been given no opportunity to settle the bill .
The Inn itself is beautiful and in a very quiet and ideal location. It may be that the manager was away on a trip for the long weekend, but if so we weren't notified . Quite the contrary. On arrival the manager said he would make any reservations we wished to make at local restaurants and seemed pleased to make our stay as comfotable as possible. The absence of anyone in charge at the Enlish Bay Inn for three days was an inconvenience for us which went witihout comment from the B and B, nor have we received an apologetiic or explanatory phone call or e-mail.
Perhaps our experience is unusual. Had there been someone in charge during our stay, we would have given five stars to the English Bay Inn. In the absence of that deficiency, we would gladly recommend the Inn.

Response from Boban_v, Manager at English Bay Inn
Responded Aug 27, 2006
I was sorry to see negative review on the Trip Advisor. I realize it must have been a hectic morning for the guests, and it’s never good to end a vacation with a problem. However, I would like to clear a few things up. This is a Bed and Breakfast, we are not a hotel with a 24 hr concierge. Upon check in, it was explained that the owner is away for three days (in my knowledge this is the first day off he had in a year) and someone would be at the B&B until mid-afternoon. Every day I was working until approx 3:30 pm, (almost a ten hour day), and am available for a number of guests making reservations, and answering questions about Vancouver etc. Our maid is there until 4:30 pm. We are in the business of providing excellent service to our guests, and in order to do this, communication on both sides is required. If anybody had told me the day before that the guest had a very early flight, and would not be staying for breakfast etc, I could have come to the Inn earlier. Guests did leave a message the previous day on our answering machine but it was around midnight. Most of B&Bs in the area do not answer phones after 7:00 pm. I kept the line open until 10:00 pm and when the owner is in, he holds the phone for 24 hours. Leaving passports and not being able to get in was something that has nothing to do with our service. This is a shame that guest based a negative review on something he had done. If they did not forget the passport we would not get this review. For the comfort of our customers, the doorbells are automatically disengaged for a set period in the evening/early morning. It was fortunate that they were able to rouse someone, but once again, this is not our responsibility, if the guest forgets something in the room, especially if we do not even know that guests are leaving. I bent over backward to please the guests and consider this review unfair and undeserved.

I reserved a room for March 31 thru booking.com. I was not told that the room must be paid in advance or it would be sold out from under me. I received email conformation and then was unable to check my email for two days when I discovered my reservation was cancelled after English Bay attempted to charge my credit card in advance. This is not a professional way to treat customers. Had I known you would take it upon yourself to charge upon reservation I would have given my daughters credit card (who was paying for my birthday trip). I was attracted by the hotel's discount prices but ended up having to pay $60 more for another room. I called the hotel and got no apology. English Bay Inn needs to understand what the word RESERVATION means. It means to hold the room until the day of use. You get the credit card number just in case of no show.

...once you get closer, the wrinkles, cracks and crevices appear.
I've waited a bit to write this review as I wanted some time to think about whether or not my initial feelings were correct. But since they haven't changed, here goes. This is the first time I've been disappointed by TripAdvisor reviews. This place is simply overpriced for what is offered so I cannot in good faith, recommend it to others unless they know what they are getting into.
First of all, can someone tell me who is the mysterious Greg??
Secondly, I read the multitude of positive reviews, saw the photos and was stunned by how beautiful everything was; couldn't wait to get there. The outside is lovely but when we walked in, the musty smell hit us full on. The rooms are small (we knew this and are ok with smaller, European sized rooms) but the sliding glass doors in the tub were water-rusted, the bathroom window sashes were completely filled with mold spots, the side bedroom wall had a big scrape from one of the side chairs, there was a gash in the carpet and a layer of dust to complete the ensemble. If the price/room was lowered to say, $110/night, then I would been more accepting and philosophically shrugged it off. Breakfast was passable. Yeah, this is just a place to sleep but for $169/night and a fabulous set of reviews and photos, I expected much more.
To be fair, the dining room is quite lovely and the chintz decorations plus painting encrusted walls were nice to see. If you are looking for an excellent location near the walkways, Stanley Park and Denman Street (has fabulous choices in restaurants; I recommend Kingyo and Banana Leaf, followed by a dessert run to Cupcakes), this is the place. There is also parking - 3 spots around in the back.
I just wish the place would have done the photos justice.

We've stayed here twice now and loved both visits. The location, one block from Stanley Park in one direction and one block from English Bay and the seawall in another direction, is perfect! The Inn is lovely and breakfast is outstanding! The rooms are small but comfortable. Boban is an excellent host.

We were well looked after. Boban and Alan were very friendly and helpful with our questions. The room we stayed in was very clean and breakfast quite tasty.
The Inn was well located - very close to Stanley park and in reasonable walking distance to downtown. We went to some amazing restaurants just a couple blocks away.

You would need to speak with Alberto (manager) directly.

North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina594 contributions137 helpful votesArriving at Port of Vancouver and leaving from the airport after 2 nights. How far is the Inn from each facility ?? Thanks !
The port is extremely close. You'll want a taxi with luggage, but we walked there easily when we were exploring on our own (there's a lovely walkway/bike path along the water). The airport is farther but still very accessible by taxi.
