I've been staying here for at least 20 years maybe longer. First the return of the complimentary breakfast is most welcome. The yogurt and hard boiled eggs are a welcome source of protein (unless you're vegan). I would suggest including instant oatmeal (as in the past) for vegans. The only problem with the breakfast is the organization: those toasting their bread held up everyone else in the queue. I have suggested to management that the toaster and condiments be moved to the kitchen to avoid holding up everyone else behind. Secondly, ever since I started coming here the ventilation has been nonexistent. I'm disappointed that the months-long remodel didn't include provision for ventilation especially in the dorm rooms (the kitchen was hot and stuffy too). Portable fans were provided but they just moved already hot air around and many of us had to prop the door open at night - not very safe and noisy. I would ask management to do something about the doors especially the wash room doors. The noise from slamming doors can be very intrusive especially if like me your room is next to the washroom. I commend the staff for clean and tidy kitchen and bathrooms. Much appreciated. This is a pretty good budget hotel and I always meet interesting solo travelers.

I've stayed here for at least 20 years. The biggest failure of the renovations is the room ventilation. As I and others have noted, there is no air in the rooms and when a room is full even with the small window full on open it is very stuffy and hot. The other problem was noise. Door noise, people noise after 10. For several nights there was a loud group of (I was told) French visitors partying close to Burnaby street - from the hostel, I suppose as the clerk knew who they were. This has to stop. I was in a room on the very opposite end of Burnaby and could hear them screaming and shouting way past 10. I agree with a former traveler who noted the lack of privacy in the shower stalls what with a gap in the partition. Also only two showers were working; the third was out of service the whole week I was there due to 'tiling and grouting' - does it take a week to do this?

This hostel was alright but I wouldn‘t recommend it to others.
The dorm rooms did the job, there was a sink next to the door which I liked. However, I couldn’t properly charge my phone and powerbank because the socket didn’t provide enough power…

Also, the showers in the bathroom didn‘t properly work. Especially in the evening, there was little to no water coming out of the shower - the water that came out was in fact cold. When I told a guy who worked there, he just shrugged and told me to shower at another time.
I didn‘t like the kitchen and living room area either. I just found the light too bright, there were no windows and it was generally not a nice, cozy place to stay.
The area was alright and very close to the beach.
Also, the hostel hosted different activities. I took part in a free yoga class on the terrace which was fun and made it easy to get in touch with other travellers.
If you’re travelling with friends this hostel could be ask alright option. However, as a female solo traveller this place made me feel very isolated and I was happy to leave.

In general it's a very clean and hygienic hostel which is located in a pretty calm environment near the beach.
But in the evenings and especially nights the rooms are wayyyyy too hot. Breathing and sleeping was very hard and I was always drained in sweat.
Also the wifi is not really working and the bottom beds are uncomfortable because you can't sit properly.

Additionally a big no-go for me was that when I booked the hostel (on hostelworld.com) they said there would be free breakfast but there wasn’t. If I would have known that I would have booked a different accommodation.

This Hostel was perfect. Great location, helpful stuff, clean facilities. They have daily activities to engage the solo travelers and some are even free. Would go here again, no doubt. They also have another location but this location is more central and close to restaurants, night life and everything Vancouver has to offer

Definitely avoid this place! This is the worst hostel I've stayed at. I checked out within an hour of checking in to this hostel. On their conditions, it states that they will only charge deposit in the event of a cancellation but they instead charged me for all 3 nights. The staff at the front was very rude to me and basically ignoring me when I raised my concerns. In addition to that, I emailed management and they ignored my email.

The rooms are okay and some of the staffs are great. Had one staff that told me to "chill" in middle of a conversation, which was disrespectful and unprofessional.

Dont join their activities, even though the front desk takes money, but if you ask anyone from there who exactly took it, they played dumb.

You pay for your own transportation, the Lynn Canyon is free. I paid expecting a shuttle bus after confirmed with a front desk memeber that there should be a bus, which I really wonder what did my money went exactly?

It is also not Erik as the tour guide as listed on the website, the famous guide. And it was 20$ I paid, shown at the calendar at living room than $15 from their website.

Multiple inconsistencies, no explanation, sus.

Avoid the events at all cost cuz you would not get an explanation when you are defending your right as a customer.

The hostel is still undergoing renovation when we stayed there in June. We have tried out the 4-bed room (3rd floor) and the private double room (2nd floor).

Location of the hostel is good, in a quiet spot but closed to Davie Street, where there are a lot of eateries, supermarket, pharmacy and convenience stores. There is also Bus 6 going to Downtown and passing by Canada Line's Yaletown- Roundhouse Station.

There are elevators in the hostel and we do not need to carry our luggage up the stairs.

The 4-bed room on the 3rd floor is OK.

The private room on the 2nd floor might need some further improvement.
1. Loud noises when doors are closed, maybe the automatic door closers need to be adjusted.
2. There is only one bathroom (toilet+shower) each for male and female on the 2nd floor, which is inadequate during the peak hours
3. There is lack of privacy in the bathroom, toilet and shower are next to each other but the panels separating them have gaps
4. Hot water supply in the shower is unstable, the water is sometimes cold or lukewarm.

I am sure small problems will be ironed out after the renovations.

Stayed for 6 nights in a 4 dorm room and was very comfy! Staff were incredibly helpful and happy. Facility was very clean, breakfast was provided which was very helpful! Many amenities such as laundry services, lounge areas, as well as activities to do each day with other people from the hostel made it a very smooth and enjoyable stay.

I have stayed here many times and I am so disappointed in the way this hostel has gone downhill. There is open drinking allowed in all common areas. All night parties can be heard on different floors in rooms and in common areas. One of the nights a couple got into an argument that lasted over an hour and was heard from floors above and below. I was seriously scared to leave my room. There was no security and no cameras on the floors. I was there for three nights and left completely exhausted. The bed was lumpy and hard. Sagging in many different spot. Hi hosteling should look at pulling out their name from this one.

Hi, luggage storage is available near the reception area. You can just ask the staff there. I left mine there for 5 days when I travelled to Banff.

Hello; thank you for considering a stay at our hostel. The private room with the double/single is suitable for three guests. The best choice would be the four bedded bunk. If you contact me directly I can offer you the private room rate, which is a better price. I cannot send email info via this message, but if you go to our website, hihostels ending in ca you contact me via email. Regards, Maicke
