Neighbourhood
West Point Grey
West Point Grey is one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, especially known for its easygoing and admired beachfronts. Locals crowd the Spanish Banks and Jericho Beach, especially in the summer, where a sprawling view of the English Bay awaits. The central village is an oasis of sovereign shops, many of them in local operation for years. The neighbourhood has a more personal feeling to it, and can be a wonderful and much-needed break from the bustle of big-city life, being a little haven of peace and quiet with an almost village temperament in the heart of Vancouver.

I recently stayed at this hostel and it was OK. The bedding and dorm area was very clean and ready for me when I checked in. As mentioned in the other reviews, this hostel is far from perfect. As a former military barracks (Not an actual prison people!), this building suffers

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to write your review. We're glad you recognize that our hostel offers good value compared to other more expensive locations in Vancouver, that you found the place clean, and that you were able to participate in some of our social activities! You are so right about the building a former military barracks and that many modern luxuries were not part of the original 1931 construction. We are working to improve our facilities, gradually adding more power into our dorm rooms (our Deluxe Dorms were recently completely renovated with lights and outlets at each bed) and upgrading our showers. We hope that next time you visit you will notice some improvements! Happy future travels!

Stayed here for 4 nights. Regular bus to the city and east to get to and from the airport. I was in a dorm room which was conveniently separated into sections so it felt like you were in a smaller room. Bathrooms could do with an upgrade.

Hi and thanks for staying with us! Glad you found it easy to get around by bus and that you appreciated having the privacy of a smaller quad section within the bigger dorm. Thanks for the feedback on the washrooms. We have new showers for the ground floor that will be ready for our 2019 season!

I would not really recommend this hostel unless: 1) all other hostels in the area are sold out 2) you have a car. The location is near Jericho Beach but far from everything else - they do offer free overnight parking (bonus). I think it might be an old school building or

Thank you for your valuable feedback. You're right about it being a historic building -- it was actually a military barracks in the 1930s! We hear you on the areas you mention can use improvements, and we are working to upgrade our facilities so we can better meet your expectations for any future trips to Vancouver.

Good things first: the linens were clean, location right next to the beach Check in was really slow. Bathrooms not clean. Not enough sockets for all this people in dorms. 18 people in a dorm, 4 sockets! Feels like a prison or hospital. Employees are not motivated

Hello and thank you for your feedback. We usually take great pride in our staff, so I'm sorry to hear that they weren't on their game during your visit. Improving the electricity into our dorm rooms is an important priority that fortunately we are working on. It does take time for a building of this size, but if you ever do come back please request to stay in one of our renovated Deluxe dorms where you will find increased privacy and lights and sockets for each bed. Cheers and happy future travels!

We booked a private room at this hostel, but before reading all the recent comments here. As we are traveling as a family with young children, we were particularly worried after reading the comments, but in the end, the experience was not bad at all. The staff is helpful, if

Thank you so much for your detailed review. We are indeed fortunate to be located in beautiful Jericho Beach Park! It's disappointing when some guests are disruptive and don't respect quiet hours or clean up after themselves. We will strive to be clearer about these expectations. All the best to you and your young family!
