Just as well I did not read the reviews before I stayed here. As it was my first time staying at a hostel, I have nothing to compare it to. Pro comments: Location - the handy (and frequently served) public transit route was nearby. A great map was provided at the front desk for the aforesaid bus. The nearest bus...

Go to HI Jericho either for the great beaches and the water front (with sailing and sports facilities), especially on a July 1st, Canada day, or if you have a car. Not for travelers who are visiting Vancouver city or looking for fun. It is neither a friendly or partying atmosphere by the walls of Jericho Beach ! I was...

I have stayed at many hostels including some in Mexico. This was by far the worst hostelling experience I have ever had. Firstly, it is a twenty-five minute walk to any business. If you don't have a car, it sucks. Our room was dark, heavy and reeked of urine. The bathrooms feel like you are in an institution. There was...

This hostel was the most depressing place I have ever stayed. The atmosphere of the place, people staying there and staff were miserable and dreary. The building is an ex military barracks and the dorm rooms sleep 18 people. The rooms are cold, depressing and smell of feet and urine. Due to the number of people per room a decent...

horrific. Rooms felt like I was in a prison- mattress stunk of urine. No plugs anywhere near bed. Bad service. Crazy scary atmosphere. As two young girls we felt very intimidated - 9 weeks of traveling Canada and USA and this is the most unsafe either of us felt the whole time

We stayed here as part of a moose travel tour. I'm fairly open minded when it comes to hostels as I am fully aware that you get what you pay for. I have stayed at some pretty awful hostels in the past, but this is really the next level of awful. This place is an old air force barracks, but...

Anybody familiar with HI's hostels know what they're getting. Good value, safety and international brand recognition. Nice place with a big kitchen and a nice cafe if you're not into cooking. A good bit out of town but there's lovely walks around the Jericho beach area. Booked a private room which was fine except for not being able to access...

We check in in a private room for a couple of night at this hostel. The washrooms were not so clean and offered no privacy. There were people playing loud music late at night and the kichen was dirty (we only used it for breakfast!). The wifi was not working in the room and the parking cost 11$ per day....

The hostel felt like an institute and not a fun place for travellers. The female dorm charging outlets didnt work. Wifi didnt work inside the room. To use wifi and charge my phone, I had to sit in the main lobby area. There were events organised by hostel staff but they were not fun, one or two even got cancelled...

On first arrival seemed like a busy place to be, free wifi etc so all good. Disappointing that parking costs but a least you can park on main road. Not keen on the feeling of the place really, felt like we were in a prison due to the layout and lack of privacy, all other 4-bed bits in the female...

Staying in West Point Grey

Neighbourhood Profile
West Point Grey
West Point Grey is one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, especially known for its easygoing and admired beachfronts. Locals crowd the Spanish Banks and Jericho Beach, especially in the summer, where a sprawling view of the English Bay awaits. The central village is an oasis of sovereign shops, many of them in local operation for years. The neighbourhood has a more personal feeling to it, and can be a wonderful and much-needed break from the bustle of big-city life, being a little haven of peace and quiet with an almost village temperament in the heart of Vancouver.
