Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Dennis (the host) is wonderful, and responded very quickly to any questions I had. He accommodated for an earlier check-in as my flight landed early. He also graciously upgraded me from the Garden Suite to the Peak Suite without any additional charges. The location of the place is very close to Robson St and Denman St, where there is a plethora of nice restaurants of a wide variety. Furthermore, it is within walking distance (~10-20 minutes) from the City Center and the Vancouver Convention Centre. For the price (it was much cheaper than other places I was looking at) and location, I highly recommend the place for people looking to stay in Downtown Vancouver, and will be looking to stay here again the next time I am in town.

The b&b is situated in a very quiet upscale area in the West End of Vancouver, only a few blocks from the Downtown shops and restaurants. Our Garden Room had a separate lounge area with comfortable sofa. A fridge and microwave were useful features. Individual luxury toiletries were also well received. On the negative side, talso he shower over standalone bath was a little unsafe as there was no where to hold on to. Our Queen sized bed was not as comfortable as we usually expect. Dennis, the owner, was very friendly and quick to respond to any requests including booking us a taxi and supplying a new set of towels. The 3 course breakfasts were a little hit and miss as there was no choice. Dennis would however make amendments when asked. Overall, Barclay House offers good value accommodation in a very quiet and convenient location.

One thing that stands out is the warmth and hospitality offered by our host, Dennis. From start to finish, Dennis provided great communication and a very warm welcome.
The main reason you'll want to book the Barclay house bed and breakfast is due to its exceptional location in downtown Vancouver. It's perfectly located for all the main areas that are of interest.
Having travelled extensively and been lucky enough to stay in many establishments, I can only assume Dennis is charging high-end prices due to his facilities' location. Offering the following view as constructive feedback, we felt that Barclay House is now in need of some care and attention both externally and internally. If you are charging 5-star prices, you should be providing room details such as cream or milk rather than powdered milk for room tea and coffee. Also each day fresh cups and glasses should also be provided.
All in all, you can't fault the location or warmth and welcome from Dennis (I forgot to say, the breakfast offering is fresh and fulfilling) all that's needed now is some care, attention and love for the main act and beautifulhome.....Barclay House.

My partner and I stayed at the Barclay House B&B to celebrate our ten year anniversary. We much prefer to stay at eclectic/historical places whenever we can over branded, modern hotels, and Barclay House was perfect for us! (I mention this because some reviewers seem to have missed the point of that; maybe they should have chosen the Hyatt Regency, or Hampton Inn.... :) ).
Our host, Dennis, was wonderfully welcoming and charming. Breakfast was delicious and a perfect way to start the day. We stayed in the Peak Suite in early October 2024: lots of space and I slept well on the comfortable mattress. We had a consistent parking spot in the back, though we didn't actually need our car very much--everything is accessible by walking! Next time we visit, we will take the train. The Peak suite had wonderful amenities (sink, mini fridge, claw-foot bathtub). As an example of breakfast, one morning it was tasty eggs Benedict w/salmon (it was done proper, with poached egg that was actually runny), and another morning it was quesadilla with avocado and salsa. Both breakfasts had fruit, a pastry, and coffee/tea in addition to the main dish. If you plan to stay here and have any dietary restrictions, communicate with Dennis ahead of your visit. He is very accommodating. For example, due to traffic we knew we would miss check-in time, but Dennis had a plan for that when I called him from the road.
For accessibility: The Barclay House does have many stairs that could be challenging for folks with mobility issues, most of all the Peak Suite room.
I appreciated that Dennis had multiple recommendations for us, tailored to our plans for the day (for example, making sure not to pass up Beaver lake in Stanley Park whilst keeping an eye out for coyotes :P).
We will love to stay again next time we are visiting Vancouver!!! Thank you Dennis for a wonderful time.

Excellent for people with dietary restrictions. Dennis is very accommodating, and my girlfriend who is celiac was able to consistently have breakfast with no worries. It's also nice to be able to get into your room so quickly off the street, especially if you're in one of the rooms with their own entrances from outside. Very nice, highly recommended!

Barclay House Bed & Breakfast is a must stay for everyone....centrally located to everything. We were graciously hosted by Dennis. Healthy & delicious breakfast served every morning helped start our day. Our room was impeccably spotless and the entire home gave you the warm feel of "Old World Charm". Barclay House instantly became our home away from home. Our host Dennis took extra measures into making our stay enjoyable with helpful suggestions along with taking into considerations our dietary needs. We plan on returning back and enjoy the Barclay House hospitality again.....highly recommend.

Lovely traditional b&b in a peaceful location yet within walking distance of English bay with its bars and restaurants Very close to Stanley Park with a fab brew pub, and Robson and Denham Streets. False Creek ferry to Granville Island is a 15 minute walk away. We loved our stay here. If you want a trabitional b&b with wonderfully comfy beds and caring attentive owner, then this is the place for you.

We have family that live in the neighborhood and have tried several times to stay at Barclay House but it was always booked. Until this December! We were able to book 2 rooms for a long weekend. We asked if we could purchase 2 extra breakfasts each day for the extra family members and Dennis was VERY accommodating and welcoming to everyone in our party. Everything was wonderful and we're definitely looking forward to being able to stay in the future. I suspect we'll plan our future trips around Barclay House availability!

it will only take you less than 10 minutes to walk to Stanley Park the same to where the cruise terminal is. we are located in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
