We came to Vancouver for a concert and stayed at Barclay House for two nights. Dennis was an amazing host and an excellent cook! His breakfasts were different each day and were very creative and delicious. He is very personable and gave us lots of visitor information. His 1904 home is beautifully decorated and is very clean. The room was...

Just returned from a six night stay in Vancouver for my daughter's college graduation trip. The Barclay House is a 1904 mansion full of the quirks and charms inherent in such a structure. We loved every moment... As there were three of us, we stayed in the Forest Room which was perfect with a large, comfortable king size bed in...

Dennis was a wonderful host. He was very accommodating, made terrific breakfasts, was very friendly, and a great fountain of tourist advice. The rooms had nice character. The location is great. We really enjoyed our stay.

Large comfy bed, welcoming cookies, fresh pastries at breakfast, the only coffee I could drink in BC (others too strong--theirs had flavor without being bitter), & a fabulous location. Walked three streets to Robson and all the restaurants and shopping you could want. Off-on trolley was only a block further. Denis was most accommodating with just the right blend of...

I stayed for 1 night and was given the Mountain room. It was small and had a very strange smell in the room and its bathroom. The room appeared clean but there were quite a few hairs in the room and the bathroom that had been missed before I checked in. The television channels were few and far between and...

Dennis - your home is lovely, your staff are so nice, and you are a true gem. Your rooms are spacious, clean, and beds are so comfortable. You accommodated our gluten free and vegetarian breakfasts very well and we will be back for sure.

We came to town for a concert and stayed just one night, but we were really happy with this place! Lovely location, very walkable and charming. Taxi ride from Rogers Area was just $7 but we walked there in the evening. Breakfast was great and the manager was very helpful when we got late due to crazy construction traffic. Planning...

Our room here was incredibly spacious, with a large bedroom, lounge area and ensuite. Dennis was a very courteous, helpful and friendly host, with a nice easy way with all the guests. A real natural at this enterprise and a great chef! Breakfasts were really well thought out and different every day. The house itself was extremely beautiful and tastefully decorated,...

My wife and I stay here every time we come to Vancouver. The rooms are cozy and unique and the host, Dennis, is spectacular. The Barclay House has to be one of Vancouver's best kept secrets. Great location!

What a wonderful bed and breakfast! My husband and I visited Vancouver for the first time and enjoyed a 4 night stay at this gem. Dennis was an excellent host. He is very knowledgeable about the area and gave my husband and I great tips. Breakfasts very delicious and nicely varied. He was able to easily accommodate my dislike of...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
