Detailed Reviews
We were in town to attend a family birthday which did not include dinner so I chose this hotel because i wanted to go to the iconic Tiki Bar. Upon checking in we were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room with mostly original decor still being used that gave it the iconic vibe. When we decided it was time to eat we found out from the desk girl that all the eating establishments at the hotel were closed for renovation. This should have been divulged at the time I booked; it is important information as there is no places close by to eat & the price of the room was not discounted to reflect the lack of facilities. We were also concerned about the safety of our vehicle but everything was fine & we were surprised how quiet it’s was (we were facing the rear parking area). The bed was comfy & we slept well.

Chose this hotel based on price and distance from Rocky Mountaineer train station and because of a very early morning deiarture. I cannot complain about the front desk young lady. She was very friendly and when my husband left his backpack in the lobby, she held it for him to taxi back and get it. The room was probably the smallest we had ever stayed in , but clean and adequate for our very late arrival (cancelled/rescheduled flights) and very early departure. We arrived at 1:30 am in the morning and left by 7am. My warning is that this hotel is located in a VERY SCARY area. We discovered as we left the next morning that the area is overrun by a homeless population. Not sure when it became overrun this way, but I would definitely not recommend staying here especially if you needed to look for restaurants or businesses not shuttered and taken over by tents. Sorry Hotel at the Waldorf, not your fault, but scary area.

The hotel’s website states that “customers deposit are to be refunded upon checkout”. When leaving the property, I asked the agent if she could refund my deposit. She said it’s her colleagues job and would be done later on. This threw a major wrench in my plans today, being that it’s the day before pay day. I shouldn’t have to publicly cite my financial details, but after requesting for the deposit to be refunded 3 times by 4pm
(and still no avail), this review is warranted. If the hotel chooses to hold on to their customers deposits, please update the language on all particulars so this doesn’t happen to others. Quite frankly it’s ridiculous that there was a deposit in the first place.

The room was incredibly small. In fact, it was smaller than our room on the cruise ship we boarded 2 days later. The building seemed old but everything in the room seemed new or newly redone and was clean. Nearby areas resulted in some sketchy people walking by on the street and on the bus, but the front door is access controlled. The homeless are encamped tightly in a several block area about a mile away on the same street as you get truly into downtown. The location is very convenient though. There is a grocery store across the street and a little more than a $ store on the next block and a great breakfast place 2 blocks away. 3 or more bus routes stop right outside the door very frequently so it's easy to get around in Vancouver. We took the bus downtown and to the park and also the Little Italy area, which I would recommend. I would give the hotel a five star rating if the room were not sooooo small and also did not have an elevator and the pillows were crummy. It's not a place for everybody (my wife had to get adjusted) but I had no problems and it was the most reasonably priced place we could find in Vancouver.

This is one of the worst hotels in the World. Vancouver is expensive so we were just going to stay overnight and get on a cruise ship the next morning. We knew it was not the Ritz but it was awful. The rooms needed upgrading but were acceptable for overnight. The neighborhood was really bad. Homeless everywhere but we did not intend to go out. At about 9 pm the bands started playing in the basement night club and the noise was so loud the building shook. It was punk rock. They finally stopped playing at 1:40 am. The next morning the desk clerk apologized for the horrible noise and said that the club is open Friday and Saturday nights and on Sunday for private events. They would not refund our money. Other cruise ship passengers were also in the lobby complaining. No justice. We booked thru Expedia which should not list this hotel on their website.
Do not even think of staying here. You will not sleep. It is horrible. Pay a little more and stay at a recognized brand hotel even if for overnight. This was just an awful experience.

Just pay the extra and go somewhere else, not a nice experiance. Be warned if you stay on a weekend the far end of the hotel is above a nightclub. Our room vibrated with base till the early hours on both Friday and Saturday night resulting in very little sleep. This cost us over $600 and it’s just not acceptable. There was no prior notice to use that there would be noise and a vibrating room. When we checked into our room there was a notice saying “you may hear some noise and music”. We literally could not have a conversation in our room and might as well if had our bed on the dance floor beneath us. The photos make the place look better than it is. The floors were very dirty in not so hard to reach areas. The area the hotel is situated in was rather rife with homeless and open drug use.
Staff were friendly.

Heads up to cycling travellers that want to stay there: they have no storage and you cannot bring your bike to your room!!!!The clerk kindly asked me to lock my bike outside and didn’t give me any other alternatives. She seemed afraid of her manager reaction!
So had no choice to cancel my reservation and find somewhere else to sleep.
Thanks for nothing!

The place is not as it looks in the photos. Is really small, old, furniture not always functional and is really noisy. Besides is located in Hastings strees, which right now if dangerous in Vancouver. Besides all that they changed us an additional night with no pisible refund, despite requesting it for months. I would not recommend staying here.
Beds are awful, the safe does not work, look for a better option and in a better area.

We knew this wouldn't be the bougiest of hotels, and that was fine. The price was right. The room was tiny, barely enough room for two people to move around, but still fine. The room was clean and everything seemed to be relatively new (and again, clean) - all good. But the furnace seemed to be stuck on a hellishly high heat and the TV didn't work at all. They sent someone up (twice) to try to get the TV to work, with no results. He left, saying he'd be back, but never did. We figured we'd spend a quite evening in our room (no TV!), so went around the corner to the liquor store to get some cold drinks, only to find out it was a liquor ONLY store (nothing but alcohol), no sodas or even mixers. Okay, fine, at least we get a discounted breakfast at the restaurant/nightclub that was connected to the lobby - BUT NO. It turned out they stopped serving breakfast at all and didn't open until closer to lunch.

From the outside it doesn't look like much and the neighborhood looks a bit rough but this hotel is clean, the rooms are standard hotel size and the price is right. Hotel is located on major bus lines for economical and quick trip to downtown. Rates are less than half cost of downtown hotels. They are renovating a pizza restaurant and lounge next door. Lovely spot for breakfast or lunch just a block away called Rosemary's. About a 15 minute walk up the hill through a residential area takes you to several restaurants. And, free wifi.
