Economically, The Greenbrier was in my budget as I had an unexpected week of funeral arrangements to look after. Not only was the staff helpful with general knowledge of getting around the city, but they were well aware of my circumstances and showed a genuine care for me as their guest. The hotel is now under new management. I found the rooms and linens extremely clean, and I had a nice quiet room on the main floor close to the desk(room 108). They plan on doing more renovations to the hotel rooms in the future. Matthew and Chris were extremely cordial, and cleaning and maintenance staff very friendly. It reminded me of the old fashion service of years gone by. I, myself was in customer service as an inflight manager with Wardair many years ago. I remember how we truly cherished our customer. I got this feeling at the Greenbrier. Thaks again to all of you!

My husband and I stayed for one night this past weekend and we enjoyed ourselves. The check-in and check-out staff were friendly, the room was very spacious and clean (with a small kitchenette), and there is a light continental breakfast of bagels, muffins, toast with jam and coffee/tea. If you don't mind an older building and you're looking for a clean place to stay without paying an arm and leg, this is the place for you! We would return in the future.

it's my first visit to Vancouver, only want to select with the best downtown which is clean and convenient to walk everywhere is this compact city, doesn't want to pay a premium price.
Hotels in Vancouver are not cheap, looked into a few before hand and read the comments from the others who stayed in Greenbrier, they are right, good location and very friendly service. Clean and renovated rooms, walking distance to all major downtown attractions. Room is comfortable by what I paid for, restaurants supermarket malls convention centre airport skytrain terminal are all within walking distance. The receptionists are very friendly and gave me all the advices. This hotel is a very good choice for 1st timer to Vancouver if you don't want to pay too much and not for long stay.

Dingy carpets, walls, sheets. Cobwebs hanging from ceilings, air conditioner didn't work and no screens on the windows. Stuffing was coming out of couch. Just ridiculous. If I ever visit Vancouver again, I can guarantee you I won't stay at the Greenbrier. We basically paid for the convenient location. But I still don't think it should be worth $90 USD a night.

Greenbrier has a great location on Robson Street at a reasonable price but I wouldn't go back there again if given a choice.

When we first checked-in, the guy at the counter wouldn't give us a receipt for paying upfront cash for 3 nights stay immediately. He told us to come back for it after we've put our luggage in our room. 10 minutes later, we went back down and was told to wait another few mintues because he was busy, afterwhich we were given a unofficial looking "receipt". The reason given was that the computer had to run overnight for the receipt to be generated.

The room wasn't very clean and the sheets for the sofa bed didn't look like they've been changed. Fortunately, there were 2 queen-sized beds which at least looked like the sheets had been changed.

Another problem we had was our access cards to our rooms. Each day, on returning to the hotel in the evening, we had to get our access cards reset as we couldn't get into our room. We later found out that the cards were set for 1 night only each time, and not for our entire stay.

Some of the counter staff were terrible. the same guy who wouldn't give us our receipt was always "busy". He didn't explain to us that an official receipt with the GST breakdown would be given to us on check-out time, and he also said that there's no form for getting our GST back (another staff supplied it immediately when asked). Another staff seemed dazed from his overnight shift and didn't seem to hear that we needed a taxi booking, he only wrote it down the 2nd time we asked but didn't call the taxi company immediately as what other hotels usually do.

All in all, the only good thing about this place was it's location.

We stayed at this Hotel for 5 nights, December 29, 2014 - January 2, 2015. The hotel is good for location ONLY! Hotel is old, do not trust and rely on the pictures and advertisement. Our room had a very bad smell. Upon check in we discovered a stain on bed sheet. The room was freezing all the time. We had to wear jackets and wrap ourselves in blankets. Even though, the hotel brochure advertises the complimentary continental breakfast and evening cookies in the lounge we never seen anything like that for entire stay. The only thing we were able to get was the old coffee. It was our mistake to choose this hotel. Strongly not recommended!!!

Let me start with the good points
1. Great location
2. Some people in the staff were very helpful
3. My car's battery was drained out, helped me jump start it.
4. Good and prompt maid service

Cons:
1. Suite hotel, I did not know this.
2. Filty rooms , paid 160 a night for these rooms.
3. Got smoking even when I had specifically asked for non smoking
4. Messed up my bill, even though it was refunded later, u cant make mistakes like charging a customer twice
5. Looks like family business, no professional management.
6. No ACs

Would I stay again, no

Check in was a nightmare! The staff were mediocre at best. If you want to stay here make sure you keep your expectations low otherwise you will only be disappointed. It's a cheap hotel and it reflects in the quality of the rooms as well as the staff.

I recently stayed at the Greenbrier Hotel for four nights when visiting my daughter. I made my reservation with some trepidation because a number of post 2009 reviews gave it a bad rating. However after staying at many other hotels in Vancouver over the past three years I thought I would give it a try.

I am very glad I did. First the location on Robson Street is great. There are many restaurants, grocery stores a\nd close proximity to Stanley Park. Second the hoteI was renovated after 2009. I booked an executive suite which was very spacious and quiet. The Greenbrier offers free internet and a continental breakfast. The current rate for parking is $20.00 per day. Considering all the otherVancouver hotels I have stayed at charged for internet, much more for parking and no continental breakfast, the Greenbrier is a very good value. It is not a fancy hotel with excercise facilities, a hotel restuarant or bar, but of these are accessible on Robson Street if you need them. As I mentioned by suite was similar to an apartment, probably around 650 square feet, a lot larger than your typical hotel room. The only caveat I would have is for disabled people or people who cannot climb stairs. There is no elevator, so the Greenbrier would not work for them. However I intend to stay there again on my next visit to Vancouver

We are very happy to hear from you. We are a small hotel in a great location and we have big and comfortable suites to suit our guests. We did lots of Renovation for the Olympics and since then we are trying to keep improving our hotel and always making sure to give an excellent service to our guests. We have a safe parking underneath with easy access and we charge $20 plus tax but we do offer free wireless internet and a small breakfast in the morning that is a complimentary. Our hotel also has a laundry room for our guests. As you mentioned, we don't have elevator but our helpful staff will always be happy to help our guests with their luggage and we have rooms on the street level as well that stairs will not be a problem. Thank you very much for your review. Amanda.

We stayed at the Greenbrier Hotel for 4 nights early May 2013. It was a very cheap option, and one of the few places we could find that would allow our 3 children to stay with us in the room.
The room and bathroom was not fancy, but it was very spacious and included basic kitchen facilities (large fridge, stove, sink, some crockery) . They don't put all the crockery, cutlery, pots etc in your room unless you ask. We did this but the stuff provided was pretty basic - and since there was a lot of cheap food options around the hotel we didn't end up cooking major meals in the room.
The basic breakfast included with the room was good. It included coffee, milk, toast (butter, jam etc), and a limited selection of croissants/bagels/muffins depending on the day and what time you got down there. This was fine though to get us going in the morning.
The hotel is only ground floor and 2 levels above - so no elevator and you need to use the stairs. Parking in the basement for $20 a night.
The girls at the front desk were very helpful and happy to provide info etc.
Good location close to lots of bike hire places - ready for a ride through Stanley Park close by, or the longer ride around to Granville Island which we did too.
Overall basic rooms, but good value for the cheap price we paid.
