We were very well looked after and well fed. David also gave us lots of advice about what to see in town and a lesson in local history. It was also within easy reach of Beacon Hill Park for a pleasant morning jog.

Marifield House has so much going for it.

An old home that has been lovingly restored and furnished. Very comfortable and very well done. Our bedroom was lovely and, even though on Government street, was very quiet. A large bathroom -- with a "honeymoon shower" for two -- that was very well appointed.

The home is just a few blocks walk from downtown, Beacon Hill Park and the sea making everything so accessible. Although we had been to Victoria many times, we never before got such a sense of the community as we did staying here and walking the streets and neighbourhoods.

The breakfasts are excellent with great presentation of both the hot and cold components -- a great balance of protein, breads and fruit.

We appreciated the owners attention to detail and their willingness to answer our questions about Victoria and the surrounding area. Never intrusive but seemingly available whenever necessary.

A strong recommendation for Marifield.

David and Toshie were sooooooo attentive. We left breakfast every day so full and they catered to our special dietary requirements which are difficult for most people! Toshie made a gourmet breakfast with decorative fruit displays, yummy eggs, different each day and they kept asking us if we wanted anything more! David was so good to explain the attractions around the Victoria area and helped us with our bags, showed us the Wrens getting ready to leave their bird house. Just a wonderful time! Since there are only 2 family of guests in the whole house, it's a quiet place with exemplary personal attention from David and Toshie. There is wifi and a lovely sitting room. We stayed in the two bedroom with adjoining bath with our 15 year old daughter. I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in Victoria! David and Toshie were sweet, gracious and attentive hosts!

My wife and I, along with our daughter and her family, enjoyed our recent 2 night stay immensely. The house is located in a pleasant and quiet neighbourhood and a short 10 minute or so walk from the inner harbour, museum, legislature etc.
The rooms are spotless and nicely decorated and the guest lounge is a comfortable place to relax. David and Toshie are delightful hosts and went above and beyond to cater to us all, preparing wonderful breakfasts that were beautifully presented. Our granddaughter was treated exceptionally well and Toshie surprised my daughter with a small gift to celebrate her birthday, a very thoughtful gesture. We generally stay in b&b's when we travel and Marifield House is one of the nicest we've come across in Victoria. Highly recommended!

The location is perfect! It is closed to both down town and Dalla road (walking distance). Furthermore, there is a bus stop where a lot of buses come near the b&b so it is really covenient to go to Swartz bay.
The house was well decorated and the room I stayed was big and clean.
The breakfast Toshie served me was amazing. It looked good and tasted awesome. I would say that having a breakfast could be the most enjoyable to stay this b&b.
However, I am afraid that I am not satisfied with David's service. His facial impression was always not good to me enven though I observed their rules. I felt like I was not welcomed. I was relly uncomfortable whenever I ran into him. He didn't say anything except greeting, which was different from another guests who stayed the same day as me. And one day, I was about to go out , locking door and he came to me and taught how to lock in te right way. Yet, he was not friendly when he teaching. I even felt embarrassed.

Response from Marifield, Owner at Marifield House
Responded Jun 14, 2012
Interesting comment. My wife served them herself almost exclusively as is the norm here especially when we have other guests who speak English. I dont recall if that was the case when they were here. BUt we work as a team. I, David, made their whale watching reservations for them and made sure that they got a discount, $C 50.00, which is our commission. (As they were walk-ins, they had got a big discount on the room.) My wife gave them the 2-rooms suite and told them they could have either the twins or the queen. They ignored her and took the queen and 1 twin. This my wife discovered when she went up to the room to check on them when it was past check out time. When I went to say goodbye, one of the ladies had already gone out to their vehicle. My wife said thank you to the other and I said good bye and shut the door. I will certainly be smiling when I tell someone how to lock the door next time.

My husband and I spent two lovely nights at Marifield House, which is just a few blocks from the city center. David and Toshie were wonderful hosts, and the house is immaculate and serene. Breakfasts were delicious both mornings. We also recommend the James Bay Inn for dinner--it's close by and a good option after a long day of sightseeing.

Stayed 3 nights, wanting a location that was walking distance to sights and restaurants. This location fills the bill. Spacious comfortable clean rooms, off street parking for the car, and fabulous breakfasts. David and Toshe are great hosts and we had no complaints whatsoever.

My family of 4 from Georgia stayed for 4 nights in early April 2014. David & Toshie were excellent hosts. Even before we arrived David helped me with travel planning and was always very responsive to any questions. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and always felt at home. Toshie graciously accommodated my wife's gluten free diet requirements and went out of her way to make sure my 7 year old received one of her beloved croissants every morning. The breakfasts were different every day and always delicious. The rooms were very clean and well appointed. The bed was awesome. Our room was very unique (for a B&B) in that it actually has 3 beds (a queen and two twins) in 2 rooms so it was perfect for a family of 4. The location is another excellent benefit. An easy stroll to downtown Victoria and even closer to Beacon Hill Park which is a fantastic place to relax. The B&B has off-street parking if you have a rental car. I highly recommend Marifield house and hope to have the opportunity to stay there again in the future.

With just 2 days in Victoria, the Marifield House was the perfect home base. There was off street parking and a 10 minute walk to the harbor sights and points of interest. Our room was one of 2 and perfect for single or couples. Beautiful bathroom and quiet setting. The gardens were spectacular and the neighborhood charming. Our hosts, David and Toshi provided excellent tips for sightseeing and presented a delicious breakfast each day. Toshi's presentations were first class ! We would definitely stay here again if our travels take us to Victoria.

I really had trouble finding a place to stay in Victoria that was within my budget, clean, quiet and also close to the attractions downtown. Marifield House B&B was the perfect choice. First of all, it is little more than 1 km away straight down Government Street in James Bay. The beauty of this is that it is a quiet neighbourhood that has the benefit of being close to downtown as well as the many restaurants, cafes, etc., in James Bay.

The house itself is very clean and comfortable, and the hosts - Toshie and David - were very kind and congenial. Toshie brought a unique perspective to her breakfasts, incorporating her Japanese Origami skills to the preparation of fresh fruit. She was also very understanding of my dairy intolerance and went out of her way to accommodate my special requirements.

David is a lovable rascal who managed to charm me, my husband and my mother in law with his stories. I have read a review by a silly girl who complained about David's demeanour and al I can say is that the problem is clearly hers - some people just shouldn't stay in B&Bs!
Like all B&Bs there are rules to be observed. You are, afterall, staying in someone's house, and you also need to be respectful of other guests.

I highly recommend this establishment, and will stay at Marifield House B&B every time I visit Victoria.

Thank you so much David, and ありがとうございます Toshie。
