Detailed Reviews
We were in Victoria for two nights for a family event and as we have a relative who works there we decided to choose the Hotel Grand Pacific. The decor is elegant and the staff were amazing! We were greeted whenever we were coming or going, and were asked several times if we needed anything. We felt it really mattered that we enjoy our stay.
The king sized bed was very comfortable and we had a balcony with a view. The bathroom had a tub with shower, a lighted magnifying shaving/makeup mirror and there was a convenient second separate small counter and basin area outside the bathroom. The room had a large t.v. on a unit which held a small fridge, kettle, and Keurig coffeemaker with complementary regular and decaf pods.
There seemed to be ample underground parking and while we didn't use the gym or pool areas we did check them out and they looked to be spacious and had a full time desk attendant. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Fathom. The wait staff were friendly, the service excellent and the food well prepared. The hotel is next to the parliament buildings, across the street from the harbour and within easy walking distance to the downtown shops and restaurants. I would fully recommend staying at this hotel.

We booked this hotel as part of a package offered through the Black Ball Ferry. Upon disembarking the ferry at 10:50 am, we walked across the street to the Grand Pacific and were greeted warmly by a nice young lady at the check-in counter who then proceeded to go above and beyond by finding us an available room long before check-in time (unexpected and greatly appreciated!). Our room was clean, comfortable, quiet, and included a lovely little open-air balcony overlooking the harbor. The hotel is located within easy walking distance of all of downtown Victoria. We thoroughly enjoyed our two days and nights at this hotel and plan to make this an annual trip.

I booked this hotel in March through Hotwire and didn't check if the shower was accessible. That's on me. Once I got to the room, I realized I'd have a problem with accessing the shower and I was staying for four nights. So I chatted on the phone with customer service and they said they could help. Popped down to the front desk and two members of the team jumped on the situation to assist me. They upgraded me to an accessible room without question or complaint. I am sure it was priced much higher than the room I booked through Hotwire. The furniture was not to my taste, it feels a bit worn, but the views were very good towards the US and with mountain vistas and the bed and bathroom were comfortable and safe for me. The pool is lovely. The restaurant staff were warm and welcoming and the food was fine. There are other restaurants nearby. And a good bike rental a block away. This was a good stay and it was made better by the excellence and assistance of the front desk staff.

Really 2 stars but in trying to boost to 3 stars, here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
Large foyer with decent seating and nice ambiance;
Very good restaurant on site with excellent staff and food is superb;
Great location, next to parliament and close to downtown;
Very good fitness centre and beautiful 25 metre lap pool.
Cons:
Very long wait to register (only 2 employees), they should have the ability to call for more help to get the guests checked in;
Room facing the harbour: so many problems with hygiene and sanitation;
Hairs in the bathtub, shower curtain was dirty, fingerprints on patio door, cupboards, phone - too much to list. I had to use the blow dryer and pulled it out of the bag and was astonished at the filth (fluff and sticky exterior) and the blow dryer barely blew air…I gave up and had to attend a meeting with wet hair!
TV channel selection is very poor;
Bed is relatively firm;
Rugs and Upholstery are absolutely filthy, the Hotel really needs to think about updating;
Patio deck was dirty;
Asked front desk for a blow dryer to replace the junk in my room and it was not done;
All in all, quite disappointed. I stayed here 7 years ago and this hotel deserved the high rating; however, it is evident the hotel is going downhill and really needs to pay attention to details such as sanitation and hygiene and any requests to fix faulty appliances should be followed through. Housekeeping is a very difficult job and from my observations, the housekeeping is likely not given enough time to clean, clean, clean! The room cleanliness suffers and people like me, notice filth.
I would not choose to stay here again; however, my department will likely book here again for our meeting rooms and the ability to walk to parliament.

The location was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless. When we asked for extra towels they were sent up very quickly. We also asked for extra cream for the coffee and it was brought very quickly as well.

Only 2 blocks from Clipper Terminal. Overlooks the harbor. Next door to Parliment building. Street running between the two supports horse and carriage access in the evening. Two blocks from BC museum. When the restaurant is closed, Belleville's is a half block away for bar and/or patio dining. China pedacab picked me up at the hotel entrance. The most conventient part was being able to check in my backpack to the luggage room both before and after check-out.

We booked via a major travel site. On that site I used the filter for "pool" for our vacation days. On that site not only did the hotel show up but the first two icons at the top of the hotel mini description were for pool and hot tub (attached). Great! So relaxing! Since we were booking for our family (with 2 kids) for March break this was a must. We were excited. After I booked the (non refundable) room I received an email (which I saw later) that those facilities were not available until after my stay was over. My question is ... why if the pool, hot tub and gym are closed (a huge part of a vacation property) from December to April did those facilities show up when I searched (during that time) for hotel with a pool and a gym? The manager said that since they were technically offering a voucher for an off-site pool with a gym (which is a 12 MINUTE DRIVE away) that they can still show up. What a scam. Instead of fighting to get a refund and looking for an alternative (its march break after all and places book fast) I assumed stupidly that they would at least give us something meaningful to make up for it. A harbor view? A dinner? A room upgrade? Nope. After expressing my frustration at length I was give free parking (weee!) and some credits for food (tip money?). Personally it is very unlikely that I will come back. Having to go through that at check-in and having to escalate to a manager was brutal. I hate confrontation bit I genuinely feel that this is a scam. Aside from that the location is good. The property is okay. The room is okay (terrible office chair). ultimately I hate situations where no one takes responsibility and where the hotel acts like you should have known better. Well now I do.

Dear Philip C, I am sorry that the pool was closed during your stay with us, especially during Spring Break when your kids want to swim. Please know that all of the online travel sites, including the travel site you used, were made aware of the pool closure in December last year. Additionally, we did mock reservations to ensure that the travel site’s messaging were accurate (and they were). According to our records, your reservation was made on March 1 and a voice message was left on the same day informing you of the pool closure. This gave you 19 days to make other arrangements which I believe is reasonable under the circumstances. The Hotel also offered some compensation as a gesture despite the notice that you were given. I understand this was not acceptable for you but we feel that we did everything we could to mitigate the situation. I therefore disagree that you were scammed. Kind regards, Reid James General Manager

From our first phone call to the hotel until our final departure from the hotel (after two nights), everything was perfect. We've stayed in numerous other hotels in Victoria, but this will be our go-to from now on. The staff was friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The location directly across from the Coho ferry terminal was ideal while still being within easy walking distance of Government Street and the downtown area.

Has gone down hill and is totally over rated now. Incompetent staff. This used to be one of my favorite places to stay in Victoria. I liked the view of the harbor and the central location next to the parliament building but now it just feels like a money grab from the moment you walk in. I called ahead and asked if I could check in early and I had requested it with my online booking. I spoke with a representative, gave my reservation code and was told my room was ready. However when I got there at 3 they told me I couldn't check in until 4 p.m I explained that I had called a head but they just shrugged and gave no explanation. I mentioned that I would just go grab a bite to eat at the restraunt in the hotel and they smiled and nodded ( I was with my husband and small children). When I got to the restraunt they said the kitchen was closed until 6 pm and only serve drinks (something the front hotel clerk could have mentioned). when we finally got to our room I had requested and paid extra for a ocean view but it was more of a garden view over looking the front entrance witch was pretty loud at night. Between the constant drunk people and occasional protesters it wasn't very relaxing. Finally, I was very much looking forward to ordering room service as it was very good last time. However the entire menu has changed. It is very limited now and stupid expensive. I don't mind paying extra if it's worth it but nothing on the tiny menu even sounded good. The parking garage was full most of the time and an extra 20/night too. Then there is the pool and gym. It used to be private to hotel guests but now to make more money they have opened it up as a public gym. Definitely the last time I'll ever stay there again. Don't wast your money.

Dear Jasminejazz, I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay with us. Your experience for an early check-in was odd especially if you spoke to a Guest Service Agent on the Front Desk. I will follow-up with our Guest Service Manager. I am perplexed about your experience in the restaurant as the kitchen is open from 6:30am until 9:30pm daily. We have an all-day menu, a happy hour menu, and a dinner menu. Regarding the view from your guestroom, if you had paid for a harbour view room you should have received one. I hope that you contacted the Front Desk to clarify this. I am sorry that you found our menu prices high and selections limited. Please know that we are competitive with other hotels in Victoria. Lastly, the pool and gym has always been available for hotel and guests and members. Thank you for the feedback. Kind regards,

We went back just over spring break. The lounge and restaurant have been renovated and are very nice. The health club is still excellent with all the facilities working this is very important to me I have been to many hotels that have good facilities but a portion of them are not working for some reason like "it's there but you can't use it" very frustrating. The location is great right downtown we parked our cars and never went back everything we wanted or needed was within walking distance for us. Nice views of the harbour we got lucky, and our room was available early in fact this is the 3rd time this happened what a great way to start our stay. Why stay anywhere else, good prices great hotel great location, very nice staff, no brainer.
