Enjoyed a nice meal and pint at the Swans yesterday evening. I was told the burgers were good and it really didn’t disappoint. However, we were let down a little as whilst we were eating we noticed a rather large mouse shoot across the floor and hide in the darkness. It put both of us off our food a little and when we told our server she didn’t seem too concerned… which we felt was a little odd.

Without a doubt this is the worst hotel experience that I have ever had. Please look for somewhere else to stay in Victoria. The room they offered our party was foul smelling, dirty, very dark and was absolutely nothing like the "similar" posted photos of the room - I expect some exaggeration but not downright false advertising . Front desk staff were unhelpful and untruthful, and told us they would support a refund after their offer of alternate accommodation could not be provided in a timely manner that would allow our party of 4 enough time to get ready, go out for dinner and attend a booked event, which was the reason we were in Victoria. Front desk then went back on their word and refused to pick up several phone calls from Expedia to confirm our request for refund. The next day when we went back to request that they support our refund the front desk first accused us of having stayed at the hotel - even though we had had to return the keys the day before, then said that they had not heard from Expedia! When I spoke to the supervisor later in the week she accused me of being rude! I have never experienced such bad customer service at a hotel. Opposite to this experience, the hotel we moved to was able to give us immediate access to a bright, clean and airy room, no wait times, no fuss, no lies.

Hotel is very centrally situated so can walk everywhere. Helpful and friendly staff. Room is very clean and comfortable and very large with full kitchen. That said we couldn’t find any shops so no good for self catering, We had a great view and could watch the float planes. We ate in the pub one evening but it is very basic for the price you pay.

The location is excellent on the edge of chinatown, the market square both nice during the day and a little less so at night. The check in was smooth and simple. They still use a key and once you are in the rooms it matches the access system. The rooms are large and interestingly all a little different with art and wall coverings. I had a julliette balcony over looking Johnson Street bridge and the water. The room/hotel amenities are not up to any modern hotel. The room appliances are dated, no USB ports, limited outlets to charge or plug in to. Again the rooms are large and rustic but for the price point stay at the Empress.

Nice, older hotel. pub and restaurant, downtown, near Chinatown. The drinks were great as was the food. Try the SMOKED WEST COAST FISH DIP! It was amazing! My fiancée had their corndog and it was super.

LOVED this place. The room was giant, with high high ceilings, and giant french door windows looking out on the water and world passing by. The location was fantastic -- easy to walk to everything, and the staff friendly. Stayed right above the bar, but on a Sunday and Monday night (when i closed early or was closed for the evening) so sound was not an issue at all. Felt very groovy as a space.

The drinks were great and the service was flawless! The menu has so many drinks to choose from, and the Happy Hour deals were fantastic! We can't wait to get back to Victoria to visit here again. THANKS!

The room was lovely: spacious, clean and comfortable and with a kitchen as well as a bathroom, the staff are very friendly and it's very well located. BUT unless you are a party animal prepared to keep going until the small hours then don't even think about it. The rooms are above a pub that has live music most nights and there is no sound proofing. On the Saturday night the music was excessively loud as were the bar customers, until after 1 o' clock in the morning making it impossible to sleep even with earplugs. This meant we were very tired on the Sunday, which spoiled our day, and we couldn't get an early night on Sunday because of the bar noise again, although it wasn't as loud or as late on the Sunday. It's quite pricey anyway, even without the noise, but to be charged so much & then be bombarded with noise all night was quite unacceptable. Oh, and the TV didn't work either so we couldn't even watch a film. We won't stay here again - there are lots more places in the downtown area.

We had a room directly above the pub, and there is zero sound insulation. We could hear conversations and loud music anytime the pub was open. It's so loud, it's as if you're in the pub. On the weekends, we didn't fall asleep until 1am because that's when the music stops. Totally unacceptable for a hotel room. For the price paid per night, we wish we had stayed somewhere different. The room was okay and clean, but dated, and the noise from the pub made it completely unacceptable. Also, no onsite parking and very limited amenities. Not worth the price.

A few things there must be a timer on the hot water because after a short amount of time the water cools off but 10 minutes late it’s hot again. No window in the second bedroom. Was hot and stuffy. Next they had the wrong remote for the tv and it didn’t work we called and left a message the first night we were there but received no message or help back. Then when we went out we said we thought it needed batteries. Replaced them the tv still did not work. The man working the front desk seemed to think we should fix the situation ourselves!!! At $500.09 a night maybe they could have looked after the problem. Even though this hotel is in a great location the service was sub par and if I’m going to fix something myself it’s in my home not the hotel I’m staying in.
