We stayed here end of July for a working trip. The BC resident rate was reasonable (probably due to reduced service) so we decided to book here instead of our usual private condo. Reservation via hilton honours app was fast and easy. The digital key didn’t work so the check in was not contactless. Other than that it was efficient and fast.
Room was clean, and spacious, looking out to the condo on the city side. There is microwave and fridge in the room. No room service and no daily routine cleaning - but if you arrange a time they will come up to clean it and replace towel, toiletries etc. So we asked for room cleaning once over a five nights stay. No valet parking which is easier for us as we needed our car every morning at 630am to travel to work.
Air conditioning wasn’t that powerful as the weather was very hot during three of the five days. That was a slight disappointment as the air conditioning was our main reason choosing a hotel over a condo for this business trip.
The location can not be more perfect, walking distance to many places, lots of shops and restaurants nearby. We are very impressed with the independent book stores in victoria in particular.
Overall, a pleasant and quiet stay for a business trip.
The hotel was clean, friendly, close to amenities and tourist attractions. The room we stayed in was very attractive and clean, the bed was comfortable, the linens and pillows were of a high standard. A small balcony allowed some fresh air, or a step out to take photos without glass in the way. We were on the 14th floor and could still hear the traffic noise so we would always aim for a higher room.
If you have a King room, the bathroom is tinier than most, but the large shower is excellent as is the quality of the soaps, shampoo, lotion, etc.
The glasses provided in the room are heavy and cheap so bring your own, if wine glasses are important to you. We bought some for our three days.
Be prepared to hand your keys to a valet to park your car throughout your stay, but the lot is very close to the front door.
A new Starbucks with ample seating and a fireplace is attached to the hotel foyer. There is also a breakfast room down one level which also provides free tea and coffee to guests and a pub at street level if pub food is your thing. We had a couple of delicious Victoria brewed pints and a not so delicious appy, but we’d give the restaurant another chance on our next visit.
All in all, we would stay here again and would not hesitate to recommend it, as there were only very minor criticisms.
• Location: The hotel is located in a convenient location to walk to many things in Victoria. Some of the rooms face west and so you get to watch nice sunsets from your room, as we did. It is very easy to find free and cheap street parking.
• Room: The room itself was spacious, clean, well equipped, good soundproofing. We also had nice balcony with windows that opened (primary reason we chose it over the Marriott which has not been renovated in a loooong time!).
• Facilities: The hotel has a nice gym that can be booked for 45 minute timeslots. The equipment is modern and the gym was very clean.
• Staff: We found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. When our room was not ready, they held on to our bags and actually called us when the room was ready (many hotels say they will do this but never do). They also asked how our stay was after we checked in and came back down to the lobby. The staff at breakfast were also great; we really appreciated the friendly service.
• HHonors Benefits: As Gold members, we did feel that we were very well treated at this hotel. As occupation was low, we were upgraded to a suite both stays. We also appreciated the a-la-carte breakfast options which were very generous. We also appreciated the Sunday special and if the French toast sticks are offered, we recommend them.
Overall, we feel that the Hilton Doubeltree is well run and the staff care. As Marriott Titanium members, it was a hard choice to stay here to miss out on earning points and nights but we feel the DoubleTree was a good choice and we will stay here again in the future. And yes, they still serve the delicious cookies on check-in for the win!
The DoubleTree hotel by Hilton had great rates in a great location.
We arrived just fine and Xavier was there to greet us. He was really great and really made us feel at home.
It's a tough time to travel. The parking garage is generally locked. The front doors to the hotel are locked after 6 PM (it is not hard to get in if you are staying there) and there is a bare minimum skeleton staff.
We could not order food from their restaurant as it was closed. There were no restaurants anywhere we could go to, so we had to order in and eat in the hotel room. Thankfully, we had a 1 bedroom suite for a great price, and it came with a table and chairs so we could eat in comfort. With refrigerator and coffee/tea maker in the rooms, the place was a comfortable place to park ourselves in the middle of a busy move.
It's a great hotel in a great location and if/when we return to Victoria, we will definitely be looking at staying here again.
We were concerned with potential COVID exposure being in a communal space but the hotel staff put our fears at ease. The property was clean, staff wore masks and other guests were respectful of not sharing elevators.
During our long stay we had takeout breakfast from the onsite restaurant and the staff quickly got to know our preferences.
Overall it was a great experience and we would recommend staying at DoubleTree to any of our friends and family.
The hotel itself is in a great location, just a couple of minutes walk from the waterfront and main streets. Lots of drinking and dining options are literally moments away.
Parking is only by means of a valet service but this worked very well and our car was ready within a minute or two of asking.
We will not hesitate to stay here on our future visits to Victoria.
