Dashwood Manor Seaside Bed and Breakfast Inn has garnered accolades for its excellent service; guests frequently compliment the staff for their friendliness and the outstanding breakfasts. The inn's cleanliness and well-kept rooms have also earned praise. Visitors are charmed by the historic ambiance and the blend of old-world elegance with modern amenities.
Its ideal location offers tranquility and easy access to beaches and scenic walks. However, opinions diverge on value, with some guests feeling the costs outweigh the benefits. While amenities are generally well-regarded, a few critiques highlight the need for updates in comfort and service.

Staying at this B&B is like stepping back a little in time to a classic fairy-tale. Purportedly built in 1912 this heritage home is situated in the beautiful Dallas road with spectacular ocean and mountain views. We stayed at the Chelsea which was the Master suite of Elenor and Arthur Lineham ( who built the family home in 1912). A very spacious room overlooking the serene ocean views. The house sits at a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Beacon hill park.
The breakfast service in the morning is at the oceanfront breakfast room that also serves complementary refreshments throughout your stay. Our host Eddie was very gracious and the food was extraordinary.
This stay was a unique and unexpected experience, particularly because it in such a quaint location but just five minutes from the downtown. It will stick in our memory (for all the right reasons) for a long time to come.

Fabulous location for seaside walking trails and very close to the city! The innkeepers gladly prepared us a breakfast to go that was made vegan and without gluten or soy at our request. The muffins were delicious! They also provided vegan yogurt with berries and a couple of bananas too! The room and bed were unbelievably comfy, and the air jetted tub to die for. My only negative was the barking dog when we would return to the inn. It seemed that the gentleman owner was bothered by this and this made us a bit uncomfortable coming back inside as it seemed we had disturbed them. We love dogs and hope that future guests don't feel awkward when entering at night :) Thank you again for the accommodations!

Right from booking this beautiful B&B we had the absolute best experience. The staff is the most amazing people you could ask for, this manor is beyond beautiful and prestige that takes you back in time to Victorias early heritage. The location is beyond perfect with the beautiful ocean and from and the most amazing beacon hill park across the street filled with ancient trees, pond, bridges, birds and fountains. The breakfast was unbelievable every day and we where waited on like royalty, Eddie makes amazing food, the dining room was beyond beautiful as well as watching the many digs play along the ocean out the picturesque windows..The complimentary drinks and cookies just added to homie feeling of our stay. We stayed in the gorgeous somerset room facing the ocean with a beautiful balcony, amazing light and sunsets. The tub was very deep, a great shower and very comfy bed. We also loved that we where aloud to check out the rest of the manor and explore the beautiful unique rooms. We where ver lucky to also meet the daughter of Derek dash wood on our stay as she came to see her child hood home for the first time since her fathers passing. What a cool place, we will definitely be back.

Junior on-site staff do attempt to manage with a smile but have no authority to deal with serious guest concerns and humbly request that guests wait a few hours until they confer with absentee owners. We arrived at this heritage cornerstone property with due regard for the wide range of previous appraisals and years of travel experience with B&B residences around the world. View and location are remarkable and will hopefully will survive future ownerships though the recent acquisition doesn’t seem to be going well. During our three days we spoke with a couple who had faithfully visited annually for over forty years who were leaving to stay at a downtown Best Western for the remainder of their stay. By the end of our third night we wished we had followed their example. On arrival at 3 pm we found our chosen room to actually be located on the third floor up a narrow staircase but not yet ready nor was it on second return. After an initial night of rattling doors and windows ( no exterior door screens or AC) we asked about room transfer to an apparent vacancy to be told that this was not permitted due to demand on staff workload. Insisting that they confer with off-site management we were later phoned and drove back to transfer our luggage. The next morning after a night in bedding we were sure had not been changed we were advised of their need to transfer us for our third night due to room assignment conflict. We refused then offered to do so for waiver of fees for that night so to avoid their conflict with incoming guests. Again no ability for on- site decision. Each of the three mornings of arriving for breakfast to enjoy a decent view out the seaside windows it was interesting to watch the cook sitting on the front sidewalk having a coffee and toking a joint, then coming in dressed in sweats to help serve the room. Though a large historical residence you will find no common area, lounge or library. Two metal tables and decorative chairs are available on the front lawn though we would not sit there in case the hundreds of people passing by thought we might be responsible for the unmowed lawns and desiccated flower beds. The effort to extract all possible income out of the legacy of this residence is apparent though not an effort we will recommend to anyone. (One further memory just came to mind … while leaving after first arrival to unprepared rooms the handle for the front door came off in my hand)

Stayed in the Oxford Grand to celebrate our recent engagement. The floor and couch were absolutely covered in dog hair. We had trusted this hotel to follow their “strict COVID cleaning” guidelines but clearly that wasn’t done. There was also no one on site to talk to about getting the room vacuumed.
This place might not be for you if you have pet allergies.
The couch also had its arm rest all chewed up and there were some stains on the spare bed.
I reached out to the directly hotel but because I had booked with airmiles I was told nothing could be done. I just hope they have decided to follow their own cleaning guidelines by now.
The B&B is in a lovely location right by the water and a short walk to downtown.

Response from Dashwood Manor, General Manager at Dashwood Manor Seaside Bed and Breakfast Inn
Responded Jan 21, 2021
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review from your stay back in August, 2020. I wanted to offer my sincere apologies for the state of the room during your stay and that the staff were not available for you to resolve the issues. The Dashwood Manor is now under new management as of November 2020 and I assure you nothing like this will happen again. As your host I will always be just a phone call away and I am highly trained in housekeeping and cleaning requirements to provide a safe and comfortable stay for all of our guests and am so upset to know that you had to experience that. Please, if ever you would like to return, contact me directly and I will provide a discount for your troubles and would love the opportunity to change your opinion of the Dashwood Manor. All the best!

Perfectly nice b&b. It has about 11 rooms, across 3 floors. Be aware that you'll go up steps, even if on the first floor. We were on the floor above the ground floor, in a rather large corner room that looked across the street at the huge park with a view of the water. You are about a 25 minute walk from downtown by cutting diagonally through that park. Or you can just cross the street and take a walk along the coast or watch people doing that.
There is off street parking behind the inn, plus there seemed to be on street parking generally available. It's a short walk to the Cook St. Village (a couple of shops, lots of coffee places, a supermarket, and the Beagle Pub for good lunch & beer). In short the location is quiet and perfect.
The room was comfy and clean. We had a small refrigerator in the room, along with a coffee/tea machine, and TV. Of course, coffee, tea, cookies, & ice cubes were available in the breakfast room all the time. Breakfast is at 8:30, and was pretty good. Breakfast is first, come first served and cooked when you get there. They were very accommodating to our dietary restrictions, rather than limiting us to the pancakes & french toast with potatos we would otherwise have been served. (We got eggs and a vegetarian sausage).
Staff was very friendly, but note that they are not there in the evenings (there's a phone number to reach someone if you need something). The front door is opened by a code, and then you have a key for your room.
My nits were that it would have been nice to have facial tissues in the bathroom; while it worked ok the knob to change the water from tub to shower came off (and had obviously been jerry rigged previously). There is no real common area to sit in and chat with other guests other than the breakfast room itself.
Overall, we really liked this place We would return.

As an U.S. citizen who has been to many cities throughout the world, Victoria is one of my favorite because of its gorgeous seaside location together with a great combination of modernity combined with well preserved historical assets, and a high class tourist-friendly vibe.
The Dashwood Manor represents Victoria lodging at its best for people like us who appreciate the way that its natural and historical beauty is available within a short distance of the downtown area (in contrast to too many cities where the downtowns have become unattractive and dangerous for tourists). The comments by others as to the attractiveness of the inn itself and the surrounding area are spot on.
My only qualification is that with the room windows open to catch the sea breezes, it can be somewhat noisy from individuals driving loud vehicles along the very scenic and popular street (Dallas Avenue) that runs along the shoreline between that street and the inn. However, it is gratifying to see the many people who walk (with and without dogs) and bicycle on the paths through that area while being respectful of one another and the environment.

My husband and I recently spent a week at Dashwood Manor. From the moment we stepped inside until we left a week later, we wished we had never paid for a full week up front. The rooms were in desperate need of upgrading. In order to accommodate us for the week, we changed rooms 4 times. We didn’t mind as we knew when we booked that this would be the case. From other reviews and recommendations we thought it would be a great place to stay. Boy, were we wrong! None of the mattresses were comfortable and we did not want to look under the sheets to see how old and worn they really were. Every toilet, sink and bathtub were different from one room to another and very worn in a couple of the rooms. In one of the rooms, the duvet cover was torn in several places, Carpets needed a deep cleaning or perhaps needed to be replaced. Much of the decor pieces looked as though they had been picked up from garage sales. Breakfasts were very bland, however the blueberry pancakes were OK. I must say the location is excellent being right across the road from the ocean and a lovely walkway borders the ocean. Beacon Hill Park is right beside Dashwood which is a very pretty park. It is close to downtown amenities as well. For the amount we paid, we could have had far superior accommodations right in the heart of downtown Victoria. We will never be back!

Hi Clayton, Thank you for your review. The manor is a historical heritage manor, that is why it may have a worn character to it. That being said, we are constantly updating our beddings or mattresses. This also includes our furnitures as well. For the 3 room changes, it was communicated to you in advance. It was a busy summer, and that in order for us to accommodate you for those dates, your room have to be changed due to it being booked by other guests for those dates. The carpets are also regularly washed as well, this is for the whole manor. As for our hot breakfast, our chefs are now offering more varieties, different dishes, and baked goods as well. We're glad that you've liked the location of the manor, as it is close to the Beacon Hill park and next to the Spiral beach. Overall it was regrettable that your experience was not excellent. We will make sure to improve the manor based on your feedback. Best regards, Manager Dashwood Manor

Nice location. However the building needs an update. There was a broken window in our room and all the cold air and noise from the street entered the room at all times. The bathroom was, how to say it, old, small, tired and completely forgotten by the owners. The room apparently clean, but there was dust everywhere. The lock of our door didn’t work. We had to leave our door opened every time we wanted to go out. And there wasn’t anybody around to ask to fix it (or a phone number to call. Well, there was one, but we never got an answer). Finally, the breakfast was good. However, to our surprise, they told us that there was kind of a fixed choice. We didn’t like it and ordered just eggs and toasts. The girl told us that they were going to make an exception because any changes to the fixed menu had to be noticed in advance. So my question is, how can I let them know that I want to change the breakfast in advance if I am not told beforehand what is the fixed meal for breakfast?

Responded May 13, 2023
Hi Angel, Thank you for your comments. The manor is a historical heritage building, that is why it may have a worn character to it. That being said, we always try to keep up with the maintenance of the building, this includes the windows. In regards to the door lock, we have now printed instructions for how to use the door locks, and we send instructions for how to use it in advance. We also show our guests how to operate the locks in person as well. For contact, we have two separate phone numbers for emergencies, and email as well just in case. For the breakfast, it is mentioned on our website that it is chef's special of the day. That being said, we always cater to dietary restrictions, and or if there are any preferences. This may have been a communications issue, and we will make sure to address this going forward. Lastly, we will make sure to improve the manor based on your feedbacks. Sincerely, Manager Dashwood Manor

Hi there, really sorry but we are not able to accept pets at this time in Dashwood Manor.
Good luck on your search.
Hi, Lynettegarett,
Sorry for this late reply, I haven't been on TripAdvisor for a while (and haven't received a notification for the question). Since I am only a reviewer/guest I think it may be best to contact the hotel directly and ask them about it, should it still be relevant. Have a happy vacation!

Hello Dee,
Thank you for your inquiry.
Depending on which attractions you wish to visit, many wouldn't require a car.
We are a 20 minute walk through Beacon Hill Park to the downtown Inner Harbour or a 5 minute taxi ride. The Cook Street Village with several Shops, Beagle Pub, Cook Street Liquor Store, & Restaurants are all a 10 minute walk.
Attractions such as Butchart Gardens, Butterfly Gardens, & Craigdarroch Castle are partnered with companies such as CVS Tours & Big Bus Victoria. All offer city tours & daily visits to the major attractions.
We can also arrange a complimentary pick-up at Dashwood Manor with one of our whale watching Partners Eagle Wing Tours.
Our property's website offers an interactive "Local Guide" using Dashwood as a "Home Base" to give you a better idea of our location.
If you're looking to travel up island or plan to visit as many sites as possible then yes, I would suggest a car.
Many of our guests love renting a car, bicycle, moped, or motorcycle on the days they plan to explore outside the city.
We also have aerial video of Dashwood Manor that you might find useful, this is located on our website.
Please feel free to contact me should you require any additional information.

Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry. We are a 30 minute walk through Beacon Hill Park from the Black Ball / Clipper Ferry Terminal.. However, I would suggest taking a taxi, as pulling luggage through the park would be challenging along the wood chip paths. The taxi is a 5 minute ride & will cost around $10.00 CDN.
