Lovely experience. We appreciated the location - away from the hustle/bustle of the downtown area, yet just a quick 5 min drive to get there if need be. The sunsets were beautiful. Beach access is right across the street. Only negative was that it sits on the corner of a busy intersection so there is traffic noise, but very minimal between 10pm and 7am. Breakfast was wonderful and the staff were charming.

We had a lovely trip to Victoria. The two young ladies that served us breakfast were efficient and quite nice. The location was awesome with many beautiful views. Otherwise, I was very dissatisfied with my experience. I stayed in the Chelsea room which was charming. Unfortunately, I had a problem with the chipped sink in the bathroom and peeling veneer around the bathtub. The sheets were falling off of the bed and I had to make it myself. I would have liked a sheet covering around the comforter For $400 a night we should have had chambermaid service. Also, the windows were filthy. I have stayed in many bed-and-breakfasts and have never had less communication or service. The details are usually wonderful. The breakfast was very disappointing. Paper napkins, plastic creamers and jams-nothing homemade or delicious, such as pastries, omelettes quiches. The quality of the bread was terrible and the French toast was dried out and unedible. I feel that the Dashwood Manor needs some work to make it the beautiful place that it should be. I feel that I paid for luxury and got budget accommodations. Harriette Hodus

This property is over rated and over priced. The house is old and the interior dated. It has not been well maintained. The bed we slept in sagged in the centre and while the bathroom was large, the shower was very small. The carpet was filthy I. The bedroom and there was only one tiny mirror. The location isn’t great either. It’s a good 6km walk downtown.

I went to Dashwood Manor, through the help of my travel agent Jan Neves, and it was an excellent choice. The Manor is right on the ocean, and it was refreshing and cool and I could hear the waves. I could also take short walks through nearby Beacon Hill Park, as well as up and down the coast. The breakfast every morning was delicious, and the staff also helped me with my laundry and offered fresh baked cookies. If I'm back in the region, would love to stay again.

Perfectly nice b&b. It has about 11 rooms, across 3 floors. Be aware that you'll go up steps, even if on the first floor. We were on the floor above the ground floor, in a rather large corner room that looked across the street at the huge park with a view of the water. You are about a 25 minute walk from downtown by cutting diagonally through that park. Or you can just cross the street and take a walk along the coast or watch people doing that. There is off street parking behind the inn, plus there seemed to be on street parking generally available. It's a short walk to the Cook St. Village (a couple of shops, lots of coffee places, a supermarket, and the Beagle Pub for good lunch & beer). In short the location is quiet and perfect. The room was comfy and clean. We had a small refrigerator in the room, along with a coffee/tea machine, and TV. Of course, coffee, tea, cookies, & ice cubes were available in the breakfast room all the time. Breakfast is at 8:30, and was pretty good. Breakfast is first, come first served and cooked when you get there. They were very accommodating to our dietary restrictions, rather than limiting us to the pancakes & french toast with potatos we would otherwise have been served. (We got eggs and a vegetarian sausage). Staff was very friendly, but note that they are not there in the evenings (there's a phone number to reach someone if you need something). The front door is opened by a code, and then you have a key for your room. My nits were that it would have been nice to have facial tissues in the bathroom; while it worked ok the knob to change the water from tub to shower came off (and had obviously been jerry rigged previously). There is no real common area to sit in and chat with other guests other than the breakfast room itself. Overall, we really liked this place We would return.

I spent a wonderful week at Dashwood, enjoying the food, the view of the Salish Sea and the friendly staff. A great bonus was a scenic trail across the street from the B&B that stretched for a good distance down the bluffs toward Cook Street Village and up to the Inner Harbor of Victoria. Strewn with comfortable benches, the trail offers off-leash dog walking and a good surface upon which to walk. I am not a committed walker, but I enjoyed each moment of my perambulations.

Unbeatable location: by Beacon Hill Park, opposite Ocean and ocean-side walking path, and near Cook street village. Room: we stayed at the Parkfield; our friends in the Kensington; roomy; comfortable beds; quiet; great WiFi. Breakfast/eating area: breakfasts (Eddy during weekedays) sumptuous & good. Fresh cookies etc. always available; as also soft drinks/water in fridge; can make coffee/tea any time. What makes this place extra-special: attitude of staff! Ever helpful, smiling, and going beyond call of duty. We dealt mainly with Kyla from the time of booking; also with Camella (Camelia?), Max, Antoine, and Eddy. A special thank you to them- and in particular to Kyla. Cons: not sure about access for those with walkers/wheel chairs (perhaps the owners/staff can clarify). Shashi & Molly Seshia
