Right on Douglas and the Galloping Goose Trail so excellent location. From the minute we walked in and stored our luggage early to the time we checked out 11 days later, our stay was fantastic. Front desk staff were great and went far and above to make sure we had everything we needed. Extra coffee, towels, Kleenex, change for the bus and advice to make taking the bus more affordable. As well information about places to eat, things to see and the best way to get where we wanted to go. Combined with the housekeeping staff, who were awesome, and the great bartender in the lounge, I think we had every base covered and were left wanting for nothing. Very enjoyable and the cleanliness of the rooms excellent! If all that was not enough, we left a travel planner in our room when we checked out with information we dearly needed and housekeeping found it, turned it in and they mailed it to our home in Edmonton. Can it really get better? I think not and thank all the staff for a truly wonderful and relaxing holiday, will be back again when in Victoria.…
Really appreciated the kitchenette with the microwave, fridge, 2 burners, kettle, toaster, soap detergent, dish rack, utensils, cookware, plates, bowls. Good price for 2 beds, drawers, flatscreen TV, bathroom. To make any future stays even better, I would suggest putting a grab bar at an angle above the bathtub for people taking showers to grab onto...turning the mattresses on the beds every so often (half my mattress was soft and lumpy while the other half was firm)...have thicker iron covers or at least triple them up as the capris I was ironing imprinted the holes in the metal ironing board!!...offer paper towels (can be the cheap brown ones you can rip off in a box) in the kitchenette.
This Hotel is very close walking Distance to Uptown Mall and fast food restaurants 5min walk (saanich rd) or just past the shell station across Douglas st. Dennys 1blk away. Trek Bicycle Rentals is a 35min walk South on the bike GG path and I highly recommend it (ask for Troy) rates a lot cheaper than downtown. Good bikes. The Pool really needs a reno (fresh paint etc) , it may be clean but by the look of it I didn't even try it. The water looked slightly green with possible algae. The front desk staff were excellent and helpful to us and its a clean hotel just older .
We regularly stay at the Red Lion Inn and Suites (2 adults, 3 children - age 4, 10, 12) as it is the most affordable accommodation for our family of 5 when we need to spend a night or two in the city. The proximity to everything else is great, and although you do sometimes have to park a bit away, there is always ample parking (you can always load in/load out at the front). Somehow, the rooms are always so quiet - we were there this time when totally booked out and still no noise. In the summer, the outdoor pool is always a hit with the kids, it's always very clean and well kept. We've never had any issues with room cleanliness - we run a cleaning service in our small community that includes hospitality cleaning contracts, so we are pretty fussy, too! I love that the floors are all granite, gone are the days of gross hotel carpet!! The staff have always been really nice to us, and have accommodated our requests really well. Extra blankets and pillows, extra coffee - no problem. Late check out, usually no problem. My only critique that has only come up the last few visits is the set up for couch beds/extra bedding. I am certain that a number of years ago I stayed at the Red Lion with some family members, and I ended up sleeping on the pullout bed and it was like sleeping on a CLOUD it was so comfy. It was a proper pullout couch bed, and I think there was an added memory foam topper. I would gladly sleep on that again! The last few visits we have been, where the set up has been a suite with either a kind bed or two doubles in the bedroom and a couch bed in the living room, the couch bed has been a "click clack" style bed, where the couch cushions are the bed. The bed is not made up for additional guests (which knowing from hospitality experience, is probably so that guests can enjoy the couch during non-sleeping hours) so it is on the guests to fold out the click clack bed and make up the bedding. Though totally passable and clean as a sleeping surface, the bed is really not very comfortable. As we have three daughters, we usually give them the bedroom and my husband and I sleep out on the couch bed. We're in our late 30's and after a day running around with those monsters we are tired and old and ready to sleep! I've also found that the bedding that is included for this bed to be some what insufficient - both times including the sheets, one pillow and the brown insulator blanket (i.e. there are not enough pillows or a comforter). Also, I think a rollaway bed option would be great, and I'd definitely pay to have that option. This past visit we were 5 to a suite, king bed in the room and double click clack couch. We made it work because our 3 girls are happy to be cozy and share a giant bed, but if the option were there we'd loved to have had a cot to toss the youngest on. That is all! We will absolutely be back time and time again, but this is the one thing we have not thoroughly enjoyed during our last few stays.…
Dirtiest place I've ever stayed at. See attached photos. I would not recommend staying there. See if you can find another place close by, as the location was really good. Easy walk to an outdoor mall for provisions, close to a car rental place, and the Galloping Goose hiking/biking trail is right behind the hotel, which takes you directly downtown.
There’s nothing particularly problematic about this property, but it is a bit pricey for what you get, and that’s certainly par for the course in this city. We used to have to stay here a lot for work. It’s not the most convenient location for tourists, as they would need to drive or take buses (which nonetheless are frequent and depart from the busy highway out front) into the centre of town. However, it is convenient if you’re into strip malls, suburban big box retail, fast food, shopping malls, and sketchy neighbourhood characters. Another negative that can adversely affect your experience is that there used to be a rather mean and rude clerk who runs the front desk here at night. He might be the owner for all we know, but if you can manage to avoid him, things can work out for you for the most part, as this lodging delivers on most of the basics: cleanliness, adequate room temperature control, noise levels under control (no small feat considering the context and the always hoppin’ liquor store downstairs), comfortable bed, good water pressure and water temperature controls in the bathroom, decent lighting schemes, enough electrical outlets to charge your piles of modern junk, workable wi-fi, competent housekeeping, and adequate toilet pressure.…
Really easy hotel, very near to the city, clean and reasonably priced. Good safe parking and the bar is nice! Chinese restaurant not the best but cheap and easy for our first night here. Booked quad room for 4 of us, beds comfy and great shower, bus stop just a couple of minutes down the road
We stayed at this hotel two separate nights over the last week. The staff was super friendly and helpful, we were able to check in early both times without any issues. Rooms are clean and updated. They have a small kitchenette which basic supplies. The pool was very warm and clean. The area does seem to attract the wrong clientele, nothing to bad just wouldn’t roam around at night alone. We definitely would stay again! Great location and easy access to everywhere in Victoria.
Nice clean place to stay with friendly staff and a clean heated pool. Our room had a small kitchenette and the plates and ustensiles were clean, which was nice. The hotel is 5 minutes out of the downtown area, but there is a bunch of stores and a few restaurants near by. The only one thing that prevents a 5 stars, (nothing to do with the hotel directly). There is a liquor store in the front of the building and in the evening it has “shady” clientele that we had to cross path with went we were walking for the back parking lot. Nothing scary but it could be a bit more “disturbing” for someone alone or a family with small kids.
The location was great. Close to everything. Beds were nice except a little too high for getting in and out of. It would be nice to have higher toilets. The pool was great. Would stay again. About 20 minutes to the hospital which was good for my appointment.
