The Union Club is hands-down our favourite place in Victoria. The interior is calm and quiet, especially the reading room (my favourite place in the building - make a cup of tea and relax!). The staff are all very helpful and kind (shout-out to Grace for going above and beyond). The food is excellent and the guest rooms are beautiful. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

The Union Club is our 'go to' accommodation in Victoria! We love it for the high quality service, fantastic location, comfortable rooms and historic charm. And, the pricing for the room and food/beverage is good value compared to other hotels. The breakfast and dinners that we had were nice and the menu had plenty of choices. Luckily the patio was open during our stay and we dined outside with the sunset.
For standard queen rooms (no view), we've stayed in a couple of rooms but liked 102 the best. It has two large windows in the main room and a window in the bathroom for for lots of natural light and fresh air. However, 102 does not have a step-in shower. We've stayed in 108 before, which has a modern step-in shower.
Unlike other hotels, there are lovely inside areas in the club for relaxing, meeting friends, grabbing a cocktail or reading. The great hall and the library are truly unique.
Last but not least, the location of the club is perfect - next to the harbour and steps away from all the highlights of Victoria. We highly recommend the accommodation at the club!

A cherished memory of our 35th anniversary was our stay at the Union Club this September. We spent the night on a weekday to mark our special day and were delighted with the wonderful room, service and meal. This has a club feel but is most welcoming for everyone. Rooms are both historic and well appointed with great wifi, smart TVs, amazing beds with high quality linen. With relatively few rooms you won’t need to worry about crowed common areas and dining. That coupled with a inner harbour location makes for a perfect place to stay and experience Victoria’s downtown. We enjoyed a dinner out and an amazing breakfast at the Club. We highly recommend this place for couples who value historic surroundings and personal service.

The staff was nice. The members and other guests were very stuffy and didn't follow their own dress code. Spent 5 days and never got eye-contact with member or guest. The establishment is in a great location. There's a noticeable amount of street noise. The parking situation was bordering on the absurd. We've been to 60 countries and stayed 1 to 6 star hotels and it took us 2 days to figure-out how to work new shower controls. The room was clean, but small. So, not our "cup of tea"!

My brother and I stayed here for 5 nights in early August 2022. A very imposing building in the bay and yet only a short walk from the shopping centre and main attractions, Room 115 was spacious and well appointed with en suite facilities. Tea and coffee was available all day in the lounge and this was a great space for relaxation and reading the selection of daily newspapers and periodicals. Breakfast was freshly made, with a varied menu and set you up for the day. Staff were attentive to every need. While we did not sample the dining room, there was a great selection of Bar Meals available from afternoon to late evening. An excellent experience all round

Great location, walking distance to everything we needed and clean but would never stay here again. The parking was a couple blocks away and locked at 6:00pm so if you needed your car after that or to park after that you needed a special fob that needed to be used and returned immediately, just an inconvenient hassle. The shower water pressure was TERRIBLE and the water took forever to heat up. The pillows were so thick and firm they were unusable for us. No hair dryer in the room even though I asked ahead of time and was told there was. Couldn’t find a place to get ice even though we had an ice bucket in our room? We could hear someone in loud soled shoes walking on the floor above us starting very early in the mornings. Our window faced the alley type area and the garage truck or recycling truck came to pick up clinking banging glass bright and early which was very loud and annoying. Never got a good sleep or a good shower. We did enjoy our trip but did not enjoy the hotel or room and would not choose this place again.

My husband and I have gone to many hotels throughout the years, and we have stayed at many private clubs. Saying this means we’ve seen it all, the best of the best, the worst of the worst, and every so often we come across a star. Grace is your star. From check-in all the way through to the end of my stay, the kindness and professionalism was effortless. She not only left the desk to help us with our luggage, but she helped us carry it up the stairs and helped us with the elevator, (we are heavy packers…) She not only recommended a fantastic Italian restaurant in a charming alley downtown, she called them herself and secured us reservations. The room was clean and cozy, and the atmosphere of the club was warm and the energy was vibrant in the evening. The members were all very nice to chat with and the food was absolutely spectacular. All this being said, the thing that stood out the most was the service. From front desk, to servers, to the young man in the bar, even housekeeping, the whole team strives for 5 star service and that’s exactly what they give. You know you travelled to a special place when you think about it even weeks later. Graces kindness especially will not be forgotten and we can’t wait to return!

The king bed suite we stayed is was large, beautiful and elegant, but could use a bit of updating. The carpets were stained, no in-room coffee maker {the fridge was ample), no air conditioning (a fan was provided, and was of great quality, but only good for the person on that side of the bed), and the TV in the bedroom was impossible to watch when lying in bed, it needs to be on a higher dresser, or mounted on the wall. No glasses for rinsing in the bathroom, but this may have been overlooked as they were rushing to get us in . We would have liked to have been informed that there was free coffee available in the lounge downstairs in the morning.

We have stayed at the Union Club in the past and that is why we returned and had another happy experience. Very comfortable King Suite! Very spacious. Nicely decorated with original art on the walls including artists descriptions. My only regret is that I did not request a room facing away from the street as the garbage trucks and street sweepers start at about 4:30 am Despite that, I’m sure we will stay there again as we love it’s old style charm.

My husband and I stayed here on February 14th and 15th of February, 2020. We had a fabulous time in this old English hotel. We had a two room suite that was very well kept, bright, clean and rich in culture and history, overlooking the Victoria harbor. It even had the original coal fireplace that was used at the turn of the century. The food in the dining room, was presented beautifully, and was very good. The portions were big and the food was very fresh and tasty. The staff were welcoming and helpful as soon as we walked through the door, especially Jonathon C. who gave some great ideas on places to go and places to eat. This is our 4th time that we have stayed over the years and will continue to come.

There are TV's with one or two movies channels, but no Pay-per-view movies. As for the comment about renting a DVD player from the front desk and them having some DVD's, I am not sure. If I were you I'd contact the front desk either by email or telephone and ask. They are very responsive either way.
There are more places to choose from in the Victoria area.
