Hotel's Favourite
We just returned home after a week long stay at the JBI and I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. We were warmly welcomed on Christmas Day and the front desk staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Yes, it's an old building with a few quirks, but that just added to its charm! It was nice having the coffee/tea/water in the lobby so that we could interact with other guests (who were often in pajamas!), and I appreciated all of the historical pictures on the walls. It felt like going back to a more simple time in history, and I loved it. Being on the third floor, I also got a great workout every day going up and down the stairs!! I would highly recommend this hotel if you are interested in something a little different and can tolerate stairs, since there is no elevator. It is also walking distance to so many great parts of Victoria - Dallas Road, Beacon Hill Park, The Empress, Fisherman's Wharf, and a 24 hour grocery store is a few minutes down the street. We will definitely stay at the JBI again!

Thanks for the great review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed staying with us. There is no elevator in this hotel in order to preserve the integrity of the building’s character, and it’s great that you saw the stairs as an opportunity to work out. We would love to see you again! Take good care.

Stayed for three nights in December. I was very happy with the exceptional service. We stayed in a corner room looking over the street. Room was exceptionally clean. The building is old, but quaint and well cared for. Pub downstairs has great food and drink. Within walking distance of downtown and the breakwater. Would stay again!

I have stayed at this location before and this past visit was a s good as ever. It's a flavour of Old Victoria we should all experience. It has paintings of Emily Carr strewn throughout. The rooms are comfortable, the pub is always ready to serve and breakfast is off the lobby, all good.

My son and I stayed in an adjoing room. It was private, quiet and we had a refreshing sleep. We were especailly marvelled by the Victorian decor as well as with the high degree of maintance of the hotel. I advise to visit the restaurant since the food was reasonably prices and just so delicious. A special note of appreciation to Heddy at the front desk for going out of his to make us feel welcome. James Bay Inn has become my favourite place to stay while visiting Victoria.
