Super friendly place to stay in Victoria. Easy walk to downtown and harbour area and the park. Pub and restaurant on site. Parking available. There are some stairs to get into the front door. Roy at the reception was super friendly and full of useful information. We would stay here again.

Perfect location and very clean! The front desk staff are super helpful and friendly. Parking is included. Breakfast diner downstairs was amazing. Would definitely stay here again! There is no elevator though, so make sure you can handle your luggage up the stairs. We were prepared for this :)

This is no cookie-cutter chain hotel. The JBI is a historical building with oodles of character yet still offers comforts. The building looks much the same as it has for over 100 years so, obviously, it’s been well maintained. Front desk staff are efficient and welcoming. The hotel is spotlessly clean. They offer plenty of local information for tourists and the on-site restaurant has a varied menu with friendly, efficient staff. My new “home away from home!”

When the Lower Mainland gets to be a bit too much its time to head to the James Bay Inn, take a deep breath and relax. Its become home away from home for us, comfortable and welcoming. Just sitting on the balcony with a cup of tea is special, especially when your hear the horses go by. The pub has a great atmosphere and the restaurant is always a treat, both are exceptional. Its the perfect base for walking downtown, Beacon Hill Park and the waterfront. We bring our bikes and ride all around the area. We will be back many more times to see Hedy and tease Anmol, its that kind of place. Cheers!

I recently was able to get away for a few days to Victoria, and returned to the James Bay Inn for the first time since Covid. This place is a gem, to say the least. It's location is lovely, just a couple of blocks from Beacon Hill park, easy walking distance to the tourist sites on and around Government Street, but situated in a quiet, historic neighborhood, with lovely Victorian homes. The staff are friendly and welcoming, promptly responding to any questions or concerns. I arrived quite early in the day, so asked if I could store my luggage until check in. I was informed that my room was ready, so I was able to settle in and then get out to enjoy my time. The hotel is an older hotel, without some of the amenities of splashier places, but the lobby is gorgeous, the rooms are cozy. Each floor has comfortable public seating areas with couches and chairs. There are verandas at the front of the hotel, where you can sit and enjoy the view and the sun. There is wifi as needed, and coffee and tea every morning in the lobby. (but no decaf! Would suggest adding that). There is a pub on site, and the night I went it was full, with people enjoying a visit, and playing darts and having fun. There is an adjacent cafe as well. There is lots to do in the area, and they have information on their website. Beacon Hill park is so peaceful. I only have a couple of suggestions - it would be nice to have grab bars for safety when stepping in and out of the tubs. and decaf coffee. Thanks for a great time in Victoria, even the weather co-operated!

I have nothing but a positive review for this hotel. It is a very old place thus the plumbing, lack of air conditioning just not their as it wasn't built at a time for modern stuff... but if you want the "old hotel" feeling, but still a 5 star experience, then this is the place for you to stay. My wife and I LOVED IT! Very very clean hotel and with the building being older, the floors creak, and you can feel the different angles as you walk likely just from a foundation that has settled over the last 100 years. It had a very cool feeling... especially if you love antiques. Everything about the place was totally unique and we'd stay there again. What is really good about it though is the people that work there. Some of the best service we've ever had at any hotel. We had met two front desk clerks who treated us like gold. Even the cleaning staff were over and above on the friendly side. You know you treat your people well when you order an Uber to go out for supper, and it turns out that the Uber driver works at the hotel as well on the janitorial side... and he didn't have to do this, but praised his employer and the entire hotel. I don't know what else to say. Just book this place. You won't regret it. Keep in mind though... doesn't have all modern day features that a newly constructed hotel might have... If that is what you want, then go elsewhere. You want to be treated like a king in a very clean and updated older hotel.... Stay at the James Bay Inn!

Spent a wonderful evening having a great pre theatre meal at your cosy Art Deco Cafe. We were met at the foyer by a gentleman name Hedy who recognised us from the day earlier. Nice touch! Our meals were superb and reasonably price. Excellent service from Conor our server for making our evening extra special. JBI is a small jem in the heart of Victoria, I highly recommend it. My background was the hotel business. FJ

Stayed 1 night in James Bay Inn. Sympa hotel. Very kind and helpful reception. Basic room, but clean. No fridge in the room, no kettle. But every morning there is free coffee and tea and water at the reception. At our floor, there was a small, common balcony, a nice place for some relax. Location of the hotel is very good, you can visit all the important things on foot. It is very close to Beacon Hill Park and to the Parliament and BC Museum. A short hike to Chinatown and a nice walk to Fisherman's Wharf. Public transport busses stop at about 600 m from the hotel (BC Transit busses to Duncan and to Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal). A big supermarket is at about the same distance. Restaurants nearby. Can recommend the hotel for a short stay.

Just WOW. Yes it’s old - very old! And a bit quirky. No cookie cutter hotel, this is a true gem. Very nice decor in the lobby, full of Emily Carr knock offs. Rooms were comfortable, quiet, everything worked as it should. It is handy to all touristy things one can find in Victoria. Parliament buildings, museum, inner harbour, Fisherman’s Wharf, Beacon Hill Park. And Hedy is the host with the most - he definitely added a lot to our JBI experience. Charming, funny and helpful. He was always making sure we were happy and made us feel well cared for. We were a group of 9, with 3 rooms and a suite. The suite was a great place to gather our troop together before and after our many outings. Highly recommend this hotel!
