Booked for my wife and I to spend some time away exploring the Victoria and area. I initially booked the "Petite Suite" which was just a bit too cozy for us (my fault - didn't read the details). Despite the busy time, the desk staff were incredibly gracious and worked to accommodate a swap to a larger room. Unfailingly helpful and polite - they made our stay.
The actual Hotel is ridiculously charming and cozy, and ideally located within walking distance of various parks, pubs, restaurants, etc. When we come back to Victoria, we'll be at the James Bay Inn!

We have stayed at the James Bay Inn a few times before when visiting family. There is always a great sense of being welcomed. The location to downtown and the inner harbour is perfect for walking and exploring. This time we noticed that renovations have recently been completed ie carpeting, painting and new hand rails going up the stairs. The rooms and the hotel, in general, are very clean with good amenities. The restaurant and separate pub are also very good. We will definitely stay again.

My partner and I stayed here for the night on our road trip, but wish we could have stayed much longer.

The hotel has been here for over 100 years, but they've managed to mix a perfect blend of the modern necessities and old aesthetic to suit everyone's needs.

When we arrived we were greeted by Heddy, who was charming and couldn't have been more helpful. Once we had settled in and headed back down to the lobby to leave for dinner, Heddy was up and out of his desk to ask if our room was up to standard and if we needed any recommendations for the local area. He really made us feel welcome and went above and beyond. We left the Inn with smiles on our faces, this was due to the great accommodation but mainly because of our experience of meeting Heddy. Thanks Heddy you're awesome!

We loved our stay at James Bay Inn!! My friend and I stayed for a week and found every staff member to be incredibly friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the area. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay, and took a genuine interest in the activities we were doing each day. Our room was clean and tidy, no complaints there. Great location, close to downtown and lots of delicious restaurants. I would highly recommend staying here if you want an experience different from staying in a generic hotel.

We were pleasantly surprised by the charm and warmth of the James Bay Inn. We were greeted by a fabulous concierge/front desk clerk/master of the domain and were entertained from the first words that left his mouth! The bed was comfy, the 3rd floor terrace was cool well situated and the location was amazing for the price. We will definitely be back!

This hotel was in an ideal location for our trip to Victoria and was a beautiful building. The restaurant was the best place for breakfast we went to (food was great, service was great, food came quick and best price around). Only downside was the room seemed to be on a slant which made the bed uncomfortable however, being an old building was part of the charm.

This is no cookie-cutter chain hotel. The JBI is a historical building with oodles of character yet still offers comforts. The building looks much the same as it has for over 100 years so, obviously, it’s been well maintained. Front desk staff are efficient and welcoming. The hotel is spotlessly clean. They offer plenty of local information for tourists and the on-site restaurant has a varied menu with friendly, efficient staff. My new “home away from home!”

I recently was able to get away for a few days to Victoria, and returned to the James Bay Inn for the first time since Covid. This place is a gem, to say the least. It's location is lovely, just a couple of blocks from Beacon Hill park, easy walking distance to the tourist sites on and around Government Street, but situated in a quiet, historic neighborhood, with lovely Victorian homes. The staff are friendly and welcoming, promptly responding to any questions or concerns. I arrived quite early in the day, so asked if I could store my luggage until check in. I was informed that my room was ready, so I was able to settle in and then get out to enjoy my time. The hotel is an older hotel, without some of the amenities of splashier places, but the lobby is gorgeous, the rooms are cozy. Each floor has comfortable public seating areas with couches and chairs. There are verandas at the front of the hotel, where you can sit and enjoy the view and the sun. There is wifi as needed, and coffee and tea every morning in the lobby. (but no decaf! Would suggest adding that). There is a pub on site, and the night I went it was full, with people enjoying a visit, and playing darts and having fun. There is an adjacent cafe as well. There is lots to do in the area, and they have information on their website. Beacon Hill park is so peaceful.
I only have a couple of suggestions - it would be nice to have grab bars for safety when stepping in and out of the tubs. and decaf coffee.
Thanks for a great time in Victoria, even the weather co-operated!

Our second time here. Still a great location walkable to sights and in a quiet residential area. Staff is very friendly.
It was busier this time around so we could hear people in the hallway or slightly hear tvs from neighbour rooms. It's an old hotel and we love that. Some of the floors slope... It's very well maintained. Our room was clean and the bathroom is very spacious. It could use a fan though as it steamed up from our showers. Also we found that the shower water pressure and temperature would fluctuate sometimes. The room has a mini fridge and a good flat screen tv. You have to request for a hairdryer if you need one. Notes: There is no elevator. There is not a in-room coffee maker (we didn't miss it but others might). Parking is included. Cafe downstairs is good. We had breakfast there both times. The pub downstairs is good too.
We enjoyed sitting on the shared patio, just the two of us but there are chairs enough for five or six.
Overall a pleasant stay and we would stay there again.

I like the location of this property as it is in a nice residential neighborhood.
Old building gives it tons of funk by design and layout.
Interesting artwork and wall hangings about.
Front end very friendly.
Pub and restaurant on site.
Nice newly renovated bathrooms.
No aircon and no stairs
No in room coffee but coffee is served in the lobby.
I slept with both windows wide open in Feb.I imagine summer could be warm
The room was clean and comfortable.
Free parking adds to the value.
Easy walk to so many places
Overall good location and good value
