Staff was so friendly and Hedy suggested several places for us to walk to. Staff was top notch! Beds were very comfortable. Its an old building with no elevator but staff will carry your bags up the stairs for you. Charming lobby with water, tea and coffee served. Best part, its an easy walk to the inner harbor, downtown, and the neighborhood park. Easy morning walk to a few coffee shops as well. Its also on the route for the horse buggies. I would stay again w/o hesitation. Downstairs pub was filled with locals, and has the same menu as the dining room.

We had a nice stay at the charming James Bay inn Hotel. Friendly staff. No air conditioning but there was a fan in our room. There is no elevator which might be a problem for some people. But no air and no elevator is clearly stated on website! Our room was large. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of soft, fluffy towels. Super clean. It’s not a complaint, just a fact. I believe the exhaust fans from the kitchen were outside our bedroom window so at times our room smelled fishy. We found out later that fish was the evening special.

Lovely base for a 3-night stay in Victoria. Our room was very comfortable and clean but hot (thankfully a fan was provided). We had a fridge, tv (which we didn't use) and a huge bathroom with a shower cubicle. The WIFI was also very good. We overlooked the carpark which was mainly quiet. The door to our room had quite a gap under it but a draft-excluder had been provided to block out the light. The hotel itself is in a great location, not far to walk to the harbour area and Beacon Hill Park was just a short stroll away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were on the 3rd floor and the receptionist very happily offered to carry our suitcase up to our room. Tea and coffee is provided each morning in the lobby. It would have been nice to have had this throughout the day. …

We were one of two couples who shared a cottage (and bathroom) in the grounds of the hotel. We chose to take advantage of the kitchen to make our own breakfasts but enjoyed our meal with a larger group in the James Bay pub one evening. The historic buildings naturally affect the facilities on offer (no lifts or air conditioning) but the warmth of the welcome makes up for it. The easy walk into the centre of Victoria was a wonderful convenience and the James Bay area was a nice place in which to stay.

Wonderful location and I appreciated the free parking. The hotel advertises itself accurately: Don’t expect frills but you’ll be comfortable. Nice pub and restaurant. I stayed in one of the petite rooms, which was just fine for me but probably would be too cozy for two. I knocked off one star because the door to my room was very difficult to unlock and open—when I arrived, I had so much trouble with it that I almost needed to go to the front desk for help! Once I was in, everything was fine.

Nice historic hotel, on a 5 min walk from the centre. Very helpful people at the reception( the man with the hat (i liked the chat we had when we came back at the hotel)). Always ready to give information with a smile. You know you are in a old and historic building, so not eveything is levelled(the floor) and the decorations could have been a little more modern, but this is a hotel with a soul. loved it. The breakfast in the pub is also very good with helpful and friendly staff. Would book right again!

After I discovered this hotel about 20 years ago, I have never stayed anywhere else when visiting Victoria. I just returned from a 3 day stay, my first visit since the pandemic. The location of the James Bay Inn is perfect for me. It is a few blocks behind the Parliament Buildings in a quiet historic neighborhood. Beacon Hill Park is nearby and not to be missed. I love that the hotel offers so many types of rooms because I've traveled here with family, with friends, and alone, and they always have the perfect room for my visit. The prices are very fair, and they do not "nickel and dime" or charge resort fees, and even the parking is free! Although the hotel is charming, in the best location, and great prices, what really sets this hotel above all others are the wonderful,…

Situated an easy flat walk to the town centre and the waterfront. All but 1 staff member were courteous, helpful and friendly. They unfortunately found themselves apologising for the 1 staff member who wasn’t. The room was very comfortable and spotless, the restaurant serves an excellent breakfast - fantastic variety. We do recommend a stay at this hotel. While our 1 1/2 night stay ended well, our check-in was the most difficult, stressful, unpleasant and upsetting one we have had anywhere, and we have travelled the world. The check-in clerk we encountered has neither the temperament nor the customer service skills to be in this position. When the problem is at your end, take ownership. Blaming the customer for your system failures is never the way to handle a problem. He told…

We love this place. They are more like an old world European hotel. Great people, fine accommodations. Now don't come here if you want a Radisson 5 star experience and to be pampered. No elevator or AC. Bit they are good at what they do...basic accommodations at a great price. Great restaurant too if you dont want to walk or it's an easy walk downtown!
