We're a ridiculously fun & eclectic hip hotel in Victoria BC that is so completely awesome your mind will be blown! Ok, slight exaggeration, but we swear it's like nothing you've ever seen before: '67 VW shuttle, typewriter station, vinyl listening station, pool & waterslide, ping pong lounge and comic books in the bathroom ...

As a tourist destination in the high season, Victoria is not a cheap place. Relatively speaking, this establishment offers a competitive product. It may feel slightly underwhelming, but you are saving a bit by staying here. It’s located on a busy highway strip just on the outskirts of the city centre, and very convenient in terms of providing parking, access to BC Transit bus routes into the centre, and access to fast food, available at the KFC adjacent to the property and at the suburban shopping mall across the street. However, the neighbourhood is not the most salubrious part of town, and sketchy shenanigans, while not threatening, keep the proceedings somewhat interesting.

To cheer things up, Hotel Zed comes along as a refreshed vintage motel in bright, happy colours, and a cheeky attitude, which include minimal but effective mid-century furnishings. Thankfully, this property does tick all the basics: cleanliness, competent housekeeping, helpful and friendly staff, adequate room temperature control, noise levels under control (after 9.00pm – stay far, far away from the noisy, reverberant pool area), comfortable bed, good water pressure and water temperature controls in the bathroom, adequate toilet pressure, sufficient electrical outlets to charge your piles of modern junk, and workable wi-fi. While not as exciting as it may initially seem, overall, it’s a safe, reliable choice. We stayed here a few times for work, and your bosses probably will be pleased that you're not breaking the bank.

I was very impressed with the value of this hotel. It suited our needs perfectly. My child was super excited about the colours when we first pulled in. I was excited about how clean and we’ll-maintained it is considering the age of the property. It’s kitschy and cool with lots of little extra amenities, like bikes, long boards and helmets, games and more. My child loved the pool and was enamoured with the slide although they were too short to ride it (I was more than ok with this), and the sauna and hot tub were a added bonus for me.

Come prepared with flip-flops and a robe or beach towel especially if you are staying here in colder months as access to the pool is outside through the parking lot. Towels are provided in the room and there are towels at the pool but you may want to cover up for the mad dash there and back to your room.

The restaurant was fantastic. The breakfast was great and they were very accommodating of my child’s requests. I would love to try dinner next time.

All the staff were friendly from housekeeping to front desk to the restaurant.

Over all it’s cool, clean and comfortable—really good value!

I think this hotel would be very good if it was pre-covid times, but with so many of the things that make this hotel unique unable to be used or accessed, I feel the price is too high. Also, some of the rooms are not air conditioned and this information is not communicated. We were there during a very hot time and it was challenging to sleep especially since it is a very loud area and amplified when having to sleep with the window open. They moved us the next day and did their best to fix it, but I do think it is something people need to be aware of. The staff is very good and the retro styling is done exceptionally well, making for a very fun place to stay.

My family and I stayed in a 'sweet suite' in July 2020 and we were mostly happy with the hotel (which is actually a motel). The beds were very comfortable with what seemed like new mattresses. However the 'kitchenette' was clearly the original from the 1950s and the mini fridge had a freezer that did not keep things frozen. Be warned there is no coffee making appliance in the rooms! If you want coffee or tea you will need to go to the front desk where they have a pot on the go. The pool is fantastic with the deep end being 9 ft deep! Unfortunately on our last day, we lost water in our room (as did others) for an hour or so because of a leaky pipe. Testament to the age of the building. The Overall we would stay here again as it's hard to find a hotel suite under $200/night but would manage our expectations regarding coffee and needing to keep things cold.

We stayed at Hotel Zed Victoria for one night while we were in the city for back to school shopping. We made an error with our booking and arrived the day after our reservation. The hotel and the city were completely sold out and we had no option other than to drive up-island in search of last minute accommodations. Dana at the front desk called the housekeeping team and implored them to prepare a room for us even though they were short-handed. We got the room, played in the pool and had a wonderful time. We are very grateful to Dana specifically for going the extra mile to ensure we got a room. I understand that often this is simply not possible but in this case, it all worked out and we will most certainly be back to Hotel Zed next time we visit Victoria.

This place was used for medical purposes for two days. The place is not very sound proof at all. The people above had kids and we had a medical discounted room and they jumped on the floors 630 am to 1130 at night . the room was beautiful fantastic suited our needs fine. the pillows were a little high and the beds firm. I wasn't there to get much sleep anyways with 24 hour supervision for two days. it was affordable and clean since we were not going to use the pool or anything else we were happy it didn't cost us a fortune and if we had been able to go in the pool ect what great value it was and more so if we had gone swimming. loved our stay we would go back again

This place is fun and funky, with interesting retro touches like the 60`s rotary phone and loud colours everywhere. Their city shuttles are modelled after the Scooby-Doo van, but weren`t running due to COVID. The pool was open, with the `zedinator`slide the main attraction, but we didn`t have time to use it. You have to book a slot these days. The room was comfortable. Although it`s mostly young people, it is family friendly and wasn`t noisy the night we were there. They gave us a microwave on request. The only problem we had was trying to do our laundry. They told us we were on the waiting list to use the machines, but clearly forgot about us, and someone else put their clothes in before we could take our turn. Then it was too late. The staff were friendly, and are applying COVID protocols.

This is at most a 2 star hotel. It is clean with friendly staff but that’s about the extent of what we can say that is okay. It is ever so rough around the edges; really is a revamped aged motel with little more than colourful paint covering extremely dated facility with cheap paraphernalia from garage sales to mask a dated tired old motel. It should be priced at less than 99 dollars but we paid over 300 a night. The walls are paper thin, the water slide is dismal; narrow and pitch black, dumping into a trough, not a pool. The noise level was intense. Better to camp or stay home. Yikes!

Stayed for three nights at the end of March with kids ages 10 and 12. Chose this hotel to be closer to my brother’s house (than staying downtown) and for the pool/water slides.

Hotel Zed does a great job playing up the retro theme. Website is a perfect representation of what to expect. We had a Sweet Suite and it was a great size for a small family. Not a ton of storage space but we made due. Love having a little kitchenette for snacks. We didn’t prepare any meals but you absolutely could! We had a little stovetop, pots, sink, fridge, microwave, dishes. The room had a bit of a musty smell but it wasn’t overwhelming or awful.

Beds are doubles and perfectly comfortable for this class of hotel. No complaints! They have obviously invested in upgrades and keeping the property clean and in good working order. It’s retro but not shabby.

The locations is great for being central but it is noisy. Between a busy road and a large construction site. They provide earplugs for a good reason. Didn’t bother us but it might for others.

Kids enjoyed the pool and water slide. They do a good job of putting in little sitting/hangout spaces where they can. Kids also enjoyed the ping pong lounge.

Our room was not serviced during our stay. Not sure if that’s normal or a covid thing. If we really needed it, I would have asked.

The wifi was pretty bad. If I had needed to work, it would have been a problem.

Overall, a great stay! Reminded us of the Kings Inn in San Diego but better kept and updated. 100% recommend!

I travel for work and wanted to stay somewhere funky and neat. This seemed like the place! The staff were friendly and the vibe was cool. I could see it being a decent spot for vacation or a trip where you want to see the city. The front staff were absolutely delightful and super friendly/prompt.

But the room was so dirty with the light fixture actually saying 'clean me' written in the dust/grime. there were cracked tiles in the bathroom and the shower head was about 5 feet off the ground. I'm not tall, but that shower made me feel like a giant! The bathroom also had a very unpleasant smell as if the toilet was leaking.

The room next to me had a microwave just sitting outside the door on the ground and people coming and going from the noise, making its way through the walls. I thought it was being used as a makeshift homeless shelter or something.
