The room was dated, furnishings scruffed, carpet soiled. The whole room was dilapidated. There was a new mirror in the bathroom that had the new light bulb “painters taped” to it. There was construction materials just left in the hallway. We got in late and found out the restaurant was closed, permanently. I slept fully clothed because it felt so dirty in the room. We got up the next morning and stopped to get some breakfast before leaving. When I went in, I saw a mouse come out of the bowl of pastries and run down the table with a huge tail. I almost passed out. We went and told the front desk and it didn’t seem to faze them. This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Do not be deceived by the exterior that looks nice.

Hotel's Favourite
Had a great stay in the Sandman Victoria with the volleyball team for 4 nights last week. The lower rooms were a little old, but they're currently renovating and I heard the top floors are complete and pretty nice. It's central to everything and only 5 minutes away from Downtown. The pool and hot tub were fine. The gym was small, but I've got an Anytime Fitness pass, which is only 5 minutes away. What made the stay great were the staff. Very accommodating and always helping us out. Charlie made it so easy to book and we also met her and John at the front desk when we checked in. Thanks to the both of you for making everyone feel welcomed. Will stay there again.

Very run down hotel, very dated. All furnishings chipped and scuffed. Drywall sheets left in hallways and random construction materials strewn about. The carpet was disgusting and soiled. Go elsewhere! Do not stay here.

Sandman is located in an area outside the city - 20 minutes walk - the surroundings are dull, parking space and surrounding closed businesses - the restaurant is closed due to circumstances - cobbwebbs can be seen from the outside. Rooms were clean enough, staff was friendly but clearly overworked. In the coffee corner guests were taking plastic bags full of muffins and juices out, a man was talking loudly behind his screen and coffee was finished and staff clearly too busy to check.

1st week of Oct 2022 I stayed at Sandman. We had a king suite. King bed with kitchenette. Clean suite with good upgrades. Quiet enough. Staff were very kind. I booked thru Sandman by phone as the prices were the same as websites. Clean pool area. For a three star I would easily rate it closer to 4. Prices in Victoria however are outrageous. Not the fault of Sandman.

This hotel has distinguished itself because of the quality of service and care we have regularly received here! Amy Leonard ,as general manager is consistently alert and thoughtfully anticipating the needs of guests! The commitment of Front Office Staff such as Olu and John Shalay to be there for guests is remarkable…You will be welcome and appreciated here! See you soon and know you are getting good value for your dollars spent here! Phyllis Mitchell

We did check in to the hotel and once we got into our room were absolutely appalled at the condition of the room. There was a concerning odour, consistent with the the smell of barf, the carpet was stained in various areas, the wallpaper was peeling off, the kitchenette was in horrendous condition, there was staining on the couch, all the furniture and cabinets were damaged, paint was peeling off the cabinets. The price point for such conditions was appalling. We asked for a refund and to cancel the hotel room and changed hotels. Was not impressed.

Good Hotel and good location for quick access to downtown Victoria without being in the inner core. Rooms were clean and ready for when we got there. The Front desk and manager were great and cared about their guests.

TO BE FAIR, our travel against booked this hotel, based on its proximity to our friends living in Victoria, 3 years ago. BUT, during COVID, it had changed its focus, by housing immigrants ad vagrant families, paid for by the Canadian Government. The halls and our room stank of stale in-room oriental cooking, and our “upgrade”was just as bad. Their “new” booking systems has lost our booking although and after an hour, we managed to check out and find a much better alternative hotel near the marina (although very far from our friends) However, the receptionist sympathised with our plight and promised a full refund, as had been pre-paid

We stayed one night in this hotel. We were looking for a basic, clean hotel with a decent location. Unfortunately, the area around the hotel didn’t feel safe. I was not aware of this prior to booking as I am not from Victoria. We were extremely disappointed upon arrival to be given a very tired room. All of the furniture was chipped and worn. There were blonde hairs on our duvet as well as yellow stains on our sheets and our shower curtain. We honestly considered leaving and finding a different hotel. Our sheets were changed when requested without even an apology from the front desk staff about the state of our room. I appreciated the linen change but I feel like more should have been done at that point. We would not return or recommend this hotel to anyone. I suggest paying more for a better room somewhere else.
