Exellent cleanliness...very impressive. Kitchenette was very nice and modern with basic utensils and refridgerator. All the rooms were recently redone...top to bottom...and I was impressed considering most refurb hotels show their age in the rooms. I was surprised at the quality and new feeling of the room. You won't be disappointed when you arrive in your room. The lobby still looks very dated...and small, ancient elevator is slower than molasses--and it's the only one..so take the stairs if you can.

There is a nice high-end wine shop next to the hotel that I highly recommend.

There is plenty of free parking...and access to Inner Harbour is an easy drive...but is too far to walk.

Overall, the best Super8 I've ever visited...Definately beats many of the Courtyard and Hampton Inn's that I've stayed in.

I just spent a night at the Super 8 in Victoria. During high tourist season it's difficult to find reasonable single accommodation here in the C$100.00 range so I thought I'd try it. I didn't have high expectations and they weren't exceeded.
The facility has recently undergone a facelift but this has been primarily on the exterior.
The location is good - 5 min. to downtown by car The public areas are inviting - nice lobby , restaurant , coffee shop and sports bar downstairs. Staff were friendly and helpful. However the other amenities- pool, spa or exercise facility are not available.
The rooms are reasonably clean and the beds are comfortable however the room with 2 double beds had no space for a comfortable chair. In order to work at my lap top it was necessary to sit in front of the cold air blast from the window mounted A/C. One feature that needs most attention is the carpets which are stained and unsightly in both rooms and halways. I hope this will be on their priority list in the comming off-season. On the plus side the complimentary breakfast was good value with a range of meals available from the coffee shop menu- nicely prepared and pleasantly served. In summary OK for a short stay in high season. There are much nicer places available in this price range after Labor Day.

Elevator could hardly hold the cart never mind a person with it. Coffee and tea were cold. Selection of breakfast items was dismal. The hotel is not very well maintained. Could not see the sign as to where the hotel was coming from the ferry, only after making a u-turn and coming back did we see the sign. Can't get into the hotel easily. Must be only 5' tall to use the shower as the shower head is very low.

We loved Victoria and wanted to stay longer than planned, and since the Hotel we had just spent 3 nights at and absolutely ADORED, The Queen Victoria, was fully booked we had to find other accommodations. With it being a long weekend there was not much to choose from so we jumped on the first one we could find. BIG MISTAKE!
When we called Super 8 to find out if there were any rooms available, the gentleman on the phone was fabulous. Very respectful, funny and willing to help us out. So we thought. He said they had one Junior room left, however the A/C was not working. (What is it with hotels not offering A/C?!) Since this was a problem for us, he offered the room to us at a discounted rate of $119/night. We immediately booked the room for 2 nights as this was the only hotel we could find with ANY rooms left and he was willing to work with us.
Upon check in, I knew right away that it was going to be a horrible stay! The outside needs complete renovations, as does the whole interior! Check in was interesting as I had learned after looking this hotel up on line that a Junior room was $119/night -the same as the DISCOUNTED price we were quoted previously. When I asked how much the room usually went for, the front desk clerk got flustered, shaky and not sure how to handle the question. She said the man on the phone must have made a mistake and gave me the room for $107. They were going to charge me the regular price and told me it was discounted...shady. We headed upstairs on the slowest, creakiest, smallest elevator I have ever seen. If you have more than one suitcase between 2 of you, you will need to take extra trips. The hallways were poorly lit, like something out of a horror movie. When we opened the door to our room, the smell of urine filled the air. It was horrible! I used a travel air freshner in my purse to help get rid of the smell. I couldn't take my shoes off because of fear of what my feet might touch. I pulled the blanket off the bed to find large black hairs all over the outside and inside of the pillowcase. I found an extra pillow in the "closet" that was stained yellow. The wires were sticking out of the A/C unit that hung from the window, an obvious hazard! There was toothpaste left in the bathroom sink, or at least thats what I hope it was!
I immediately called the front desk and told them that we would not be needing the room for 2 nights, we would only be staying the one night and only because we had nowhere else left to go. We would be sleeping on top of the blankets with clothes on if I had anything to do with it!
I couldn't wait to get out of the room, so first thing in the morning we got up, had a quick rinse in the shower and ran out the door. When the front desk staff asked me how our stay was, I told her I would be more than willing to share our thoughts if she really wanted to know. She said she didnt want to know and asked me to sign my credit card slip. She must have known what was coming! STAY AWAY, this place should be demolished!

The Hotel 8 in Victoria Canada along Douglas Street is the worst hotel that we stayed at. We checked in late at night. When we entered the room, it was a total disaster.
The beds were not made up, there are trash all over, the coffee maker was not washed. And the bathroom is not clean.
There are still the old beddings and the old trash left behind by the previous customer.
Since it was late at night, the front desk manager didn't even clean up the room, there is no other rooms available, and the housekeeping are already closed.
The manager said to us that he could give us new linens and towels but it's up to us to clean and makeup the bed and clean the bathroom.
THIS IS THE WORST SERVICE THAT WE EVER HAD.
Can you imagine that the customer will be the one to clean and makeup the bed and scrub the bathroom tiles.
The following day we were transferred to a different room, but this time the air-conditioning is not working. It's in the middle of summer and it was also hot that weekend in Victoria.
That weekend in Super 8 , Victoria is really the worst.
I would advise future customer to be careful when choosing this hotel.

Stay somewhere else!

The only good things I can say is the hot water was consistent even at peak hours, and by some miracle our AC worked despite other reviews I see here that say they were not working.

Floor in the room was dirty and stained.

Small cramped room.

No fridge or microwave in the double bed rooms. Was not quite clear enough on the website we booked through, and no it does not state that they are not there, rather omits them in the amenities list. However when we called ahead to confirm that, we were assured we would have one.

Continental breakfast offers only bread in different forms (bagels, strudels, toast, cinnamon buns, cereal) but no attempt at offering any warm food, protein, dairy, fruit or anything else. Though if you’re up when they put it out there will be a misleading smell of bacon and eggs.

Wifi doesn’t work even during non peak hours; in fact it’s bad enough the front desk staff will tell you to use the Shaw wifi instead and you’re out of luck if you’re not with Shaw.

Beware if you’re staying more than a night. Returning to the room from touring the island, I found a bunch of my stuff went missing. When the issue was raised to the front desk they told me it’s too bad, and basically suggested I was in the wrong for trusting their staff and leaving my stuff in the room. Said they would speak with housekeeping and they would get back to me, but no one ever did and when I tried to ask for updates four times I’d have to explain everything all over again so clearly there was no communication between staff. I gave up and cut my losses. Thank goodness I didn’t keep anything of high value in the room but it’s still a massive hassle to replace everything. So if you’re on an extended stay, pack up and take everything to your car every time you leave, decline housekeeping services, or just stay somewhere else.

Even before I ran into any issues I never once spoke with anyone at the front desk who was nice. Not once in the entire week I was there was anyone at the front desk pleasant. Though I wasn’t shy about mentioning our issues, I did my best to be nice about it, not irate. However, all attempts to calmly and pleasantly resolve issues were met with hostility.

There is a place across the street called Arbutus Inn, and despite not having breakfast they are far better than Super 8; clean, comfy soft beds, and cheaper. Ended up staying there the last few nights because I would rather lose the money for the nights I’d booked and pay for another hotel at the same time than spend one more moment here.

Don’t bother with the cut and paste response as I see with other reviews. I will never feel comfortable enough to try you again in the future.

We stayed here over the Labour Day Weekend
1st let me say I was very pleasantly surprised that it was a hotel not a motel, with a very nice Foyer great front desk staff.
Our room was very nice @ $80 per night it was amazing free wireless internet ,free local and 1800calls.
The room was very clean on arrival and the pretty girls kept it that way during our stay, giving us extra towels. You always need extra towels at a Super 8.
Free parking
The only downside I would say is that if you dont have a car you are a little far from the main centre, harbour etc. But of course its reflected in the price over $200 per night for that time of year
Our room had 2 Queen beds, there were other rooms bigger with a pullout sofa bed as well..
We will definitely book the Victoria Super 8 again

Don't let the name super 8 fool you. Newly renovated it is a short car drive to downtown Victoria. Staff was friendly and the rooms were really nice. The only downfall i could see is a small elevator. there are even 2 restaurants on the premise and a fun diner for breakfast. if you are looking for something affordable, stay here!
