The Oswego Hotel is a favorite among travelers for its spacious and comfortable rooms complete with well-equipped kitchens, although the lack of air conditioning has been noted by some. The cleanliness of the hotel, from the rooms to the eco-friendly practices, consistently earns high marks. Guests love the hotel’s location for its serene charm and easy access to downtown Victoria. While the amenities are generally appreciated, the absence of certain complimentary in-room items and potential incidental charges have been pointed out. The exceptional service and inviting atmosphere at the Oswego Hotel are frequently highlighted, contributing to its overall good value.

We chose to return to the Oswego hotel for 18 nights while visiting our son who lives in Victoria. Being situated in a central location with guest parking for our hired car it's ideal. For such a long stay, eating out every day could be expensive so having a full kitchen and supermarkets nearby kept the cost down. A coin operated guest laundry was a must and I never had to wait, I only saw one other person in there.
When we ate in the restaurant a few times we found the food and service excellent.
Staff throughout the hotel were friendly, welcoming and super helpful at all times.
We would definitely recommend The Oswego to anyone visiting Victoria and will no doubt be back ourselves.

Oswego is a lovely place to stay in the heart of Victoria’s downtown. Its location is excellent, just a few blocks to Dallas Rd offering miles of trails along the ocean for biking, walking , running etc. A few blocks in the other direction is the core of downtown with the Parliament buildings, the Fairmont Empress and countless restaurants and shops.
Stayed in a 1 bedroom unit with my daughter and granddaughter for 3 nights. Loved the quiet yet convenient location. Underground secure parking is available for a fraction of what Vancouver hotels charge. The full kitchen was well equipped and everything was very clean. Beds were comfortable and bathroom spacious. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and caring. I highly recommend staying here and I know I’ll be back again.

A hidden gem if you prefer a bigger living area and full size kitchen, in place of other amenities (It has a very small gym, no pool). We had a few minor issues in the room to be fixed and staff came quickly. The sofa bed was very comfortable as there was 3 of us in the room, and it's nice to have 2 TV's if needed. There were 3 thermostats as well, one in the bathroom, living room and bedroom, so everyone was comfortable. I also appreciated being able to wash clothing on another floor, as we were there for a squash tournament, so clothing had to be washed. There were pots, dishes, an iron, blender, coffee maker and a coffee press. If you like to eat in - I would recommend bringing spices, salt and pepper, coffee etc. - I always do this then don't have to buy little things. There was sugar in the room, and some creamers in the fridge, but nothing else that I saw. Overall great place. I will say what attracted us to it initially was a sale on Expedia, regular $299, we paid $175 a night which was a great deal for 5 nights. Walking distance to downtown, and just a 3 minute walk to the water. Perhaps adding a bit of furniture to the room would help - a dresser in the bedroom and maybe a bit more storage in the living room.

We were terribly disappointed in our stay at the Oswego. The room was not well cleaned. The bathroom floor was not cleaned as we found hair from other guests all during our stay in the bathroom and in the bedding. Kitchen appliances were streaky from being wiped with a dirty rag. Street noise was terrible and the glare from the street lights lit up the room making it very hard to sleep. The blinds are decorative and do not block out any light or noise. On our second night I asked if it would be possible to change rooms but wasn't an option since the hotel was full. The front desk did bring up eye masks and we ran the air conditioner to drown out the street noise. It is in a great location but there are lots of hotels in good locations and the street noise and light is almost unbearable. Kitchen is nice to have and we did use it. We were told very abruptly by the front desk clerk when we checked in that there would be no maid service during our four night stay. This has become common practise during Covid but I feel this should be communicated at time of booking, not at check in. This was our fourth hotel during our stay on Vancouver Island and the only hotel not to offer maid service. The restaurant brunch was very good and the waitress was very friendly - the hotel should have her working the front desk! I read through lots of great reviews before booking the Oswego and they were a factor in choosing this hotel, unfortunately our experience wasn't great. I would definitely caution booking a room facing Oswego Street. We were not ready to leave Victoria but we were definitely ready to leave the Oswego Hotel and get a good night's sleep somewhere else!

Thank you for your detailed review, and I would like to clear up a number of inaccuracies. All linens are cleaned thoroughly with K Bro Laundry, and fresh linens are put on every bed prior to a new guest arriving, so there would not be any remnants from prior guests possible. Stainless Steel Appliances are notoriously streaky, and are cleaned very thoroughly, however it may appear streaky under certain light- we use strict cleaning protocols in suite. The Oswego is located on a quiet residential suite, and a room change was offered but was declined by you, which would have been to a different suite that is perhaps quieter. It is quite rare for us to get noise complaints, and there is normal urban neighborhood noise, but nothing that typically disrupts sleep unless it is an emergency vehicle on a rare drive by. We do make the cleaning policy clear, as we note this in the welcome email under COVID-19 Practices. There are also immense staffing shortages on the island, which we, and all properties, are doing our best to work within. We are proud of our reputation and hosting hundreds of guests who have left 5 star reviews, and I am sorry your stay did not meet a 5 star experience for you. We wish you all the best in future travels.

I can't say enough about this boutique hotel. Upon arrival, they were so polite as expected, but then I managed to park in the wrong parkade and landed myself in the courtyard of the apartment complex next door! They handled the situation for me with ease and laughter. After that, they were able to source me a charger for my MacBook, delivered my Skip the Dishes order up to my room, and even called to check in on how I was enjoying my stay. I would like to give accolades specifically to Erin and Jovel: top-notch service! Obviously the rooms are lovely, and our view looked over the harbour in James Bay area, plus the location is ideal too: close enough to downtown, you guarantee yourself a walk around the harbour, and it's quiet enough to feel like you're tucked away. All-in-all 10/10!

Our family of four stayed in a 2 bedroom suite over the Thanksgiving long weekend. The suite was specious and bright, and very clean. There were also lots of towels and shampoo/conditioner units in the shower rather than those little bottles which are a pain. I was surprised to see that the gym was open, and was able to book 2 sessions there. I had the gym to myself as per covid protocols, and while it's very small, it had everything one person could want.

We ate both dinner and breakfast at the onsite restaurant. Two thumbs up for both meals. I would say that the dinner there was by far the best we've had in Victoria EVER. Great quality ingredients and a very creative menu. Sunday brunch was also very good. The staff at the restaurant both Friday night and Sunday brunch are super sweet and attentive.

The location of the hotel is great - walking distance to downtown and along Dallas road to walk along the ocean. Having stayed at the Empress before, I would much prefer the Oswego next time - it's clean, comfortable, well-priced, great food and friendly staff.

Lastly, following checkout, we received a call that a member of our party left a notebook behind. The hotel offered to mail it to us, which we happily accepted.

The Oswego is located downtown near the Parliament Grounds and near the funky neighbourhood of James Bay. This location is ideal for walking to main attractions. The hotel staff are a delight, friendly and knowledgable. The hotel has secure parking, which I might add is bright and spotless. The rooms are bright and well appointed. Our recent trip did not disappoint, and we have experienced different suites on different levels w different room plans, Our one bedroom suite had a lovely view of the side of the parliament buildings which was afforded by a wall of windows, in the living and bedroom areas. The bed, linens and fully appointed kitchen provided all the necessities one would expect and require for ultimate comfort. We like the decor, colours and furniture which is comfortable and functional. The bathroom was large, bright w a glass enclosed shower and separate tub. The shampoo, conditioner and soaps were organic and very pleasant, with nominal packaging. There is an on site farm to table resturant, bar 500 that is open several days a week offering breakfast and supper which we recommend as a must try. The hotel lobby also has jazz concerts on appointed nights. The rooms do not have noisy air-conditioners, but opening windows to a balcony w chairs and fans in each room. We prefer this arrangement and consider this a plus. The hotel has a recycling model w a composter under the sink. We can’t wait to return, and are considering Oswego as must return for a mini holiday.

Perfect place to stay in Victoria. Smaller hotel in James Bay. Very easy to get around, we hardly used our vehicle. Rooms are beautifully finished - we stayed in a queen suite with a fully stocked kitchen and a south facing balcony.

We booked a one bedroom suite for a four night stay in September but the night before were told that the suite was no longer available. Instead, we were upgraded to a two bed suite on the top floor with a huge balcony. We were also given complimentary breakfast. We could not have asked for anything more. The suite is very well equipped and the bed is especially comfortable.
The staff were wonderful, especially Nathan and Raya (spelling may be incorrect).
All of downtown is within easy walking of the hotel and with a 25% discount for staying four nights made it an amazing value.
Small complaints: no HDTV, only standard definition, and AC would be really nice in hot summer weather.
The Oswego is highly recommended.

Returning to the Oswego Hotel during COVID was a brilliant choice! The property was spotlessly clean and compliant, so much so that a "covid" resistant copper front desk was installed during the time I was a guest as a step up protective measure. The staff is always personable and no request is denied. I loved the space with great lighting, music, full kitchen, abundant washroom supplies and coffee, views, easy parking, and, most importantly, I felt totally safe in the hands of this team.

Clearly the best place to stay in Victoria for short term or long term stays.
