#9 of 72 Speciality lodging in Whistler
Opened in July 2010, the HI Whistler is a purpose-built hostel that was originally used as part of the Whistler Athletes' Village during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This brand new facility sets the standard in hostelling with all the amenities you'd expect and then some. There's more to HI Whistler than just a place to sleep. Grab a coffee and snack at Cheaky's Cafe in the hostel lobby, lounge on the outdoor decks with mountain views, store your bike, skis, and boards in the equipment storage room, hang out in the media room with its 52" HDTV and meet some cool new folks over a free game of pool in the lounge.

Booked a private room for my elderly mother who visited our area for 11 nights. Located in the quiet Cheakamus Crossing residential neighbourhood, with a local transit bus stop steps away. This top floor room was spacious and bright, spotlessly clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Suggest you request a room on a high floor overlooking the park to avoid any traffic noise. Unfortunately, the night manager doesn't control access to the hostel decks so on hot nights with bedroom windows open, sleeping guests are regularly disturbed by people out there talking at 3am, and the possibility of a noisy dorm (?) party (1 during this stay). Besides this, it was a super and safe place for people visiting local residents. All age groups are welcome to stay at this property. Thank you!

I mainly stayed in a private room which was clean, had a private bathroom & more than adequate space to spread out & chill on a ski trip. On a slightly negative point, the bed head wall backed onto the stairwell so on the odd occasion it was slightly noisy when people came back from the bars late (we’ve all been there so let it go).Very good kitchen facilities; as a hostel, quite rightly, it has groups so on 1 night (out of 7) there was no space to cook due to group being in there (which resulted in having to drink a few beers for an hour before eating) but, otherwise, not an issue to cook & eat whenever you wanted. Reception staff were friendly & helpful. It’s about a 7 mins bus ride to Creekside (best option in my opinion) to access to Gondola on Whistler and 15 mins to Whistler village for acces to Whistler or Blackcomb mountains.

I stayed at one of private room with my daughter. Staff was very friendly, good & clean facility, free-parking space which is rare in Whistler village was awesome. We didn't use but there is a huge kitchen and lounge room with TV and video game. In the past, I have stayed at some fancy hotels in Whistler village but this hostel is a lot quieter and feel spacious, although some of people would appreciate Whistler village more for the convenience. It wasn't ruin anything for us. Only downside that I reduce one star is unstable and very weak Wifi. My phone was not able to pick up most of time, or even it did, just for a minute or two then cut out. Overall, I like this hostel and will be back in future!

UNCLEAN! Just stayed in a private room where when I went to bed I thought the pillows and sheets smelled funky but I was tired and tried to ignore. The rooms do not have A/C so I had the floor fan on high to try and help with the heat. Upon check out I realized I forgot a shirt in the room. When I went back to the room (5 min) the bed was made and apparently it was already 'clean' ready for the next guest? DISGUSTING You cant even change pillow sheets, let alone bed sheets, clean washroom, etc. in under 5 min. I was late for a meeting otherwise I would have complained. I now have pink eye and what looks like spider bites on my arm. Thanks HI Whistler. For your health and safety spend a few extra bucks for a clean bed and room.

HI Whistler is a simple but elegant accommodation in the mountain resort of Whistler about 2 hours’ drive from Vancouver. We stayed in a private room for two with a queen size bed, a TV, a table, two bedside tables, and an open closet with hangers. There is wall-to-wall carpeting. The en-suite bathroom was quite large with running hot water, liquid soap dispenser and toilet paper provided. Clean towels, napkins, bed linen and blankets were provided. The room ac was dysfunctional but it was not required during the night as it was quite cool, and a pedestal fan had been provided in case it became hot in the afternoon. There was Cheaky’s Café in the lobby where we would have our breakfast and coffee and then catch the No.20 shuttle bus to Whistler Village and roam around for the day. There is a community kitchen and laundry room which we made use and both are very convenient to use. The use of the kitchen is free, but the laundry is pay per use. Of course you have to tidy up after your use. The surroundings of the hostel are very green and ringed in by the mountains. There are walking and cycling tracks nearby, and the ‘Train Wreck’ site is within a 2 km walking distance through a path leading into the wilderness. The shuttle bus from Whistler Village runs every 20 minutes and drops you at the hostel for $2.50 a ride. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a lounge with a lot of reading material. Use of the kitchen is free and there is a decent dining hall attached. One can even sit out in the open veranda and enjoy the scenery while having your meal. We enjoyed our 3 day stay at HI Whistler.
