Opened in July 2010, the HI Whistler is a purpose-built hostel that was originally used as part of the Whistler Athletes' Village during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This brand new facility sets the standard in hostelling with all the amenities you'd expect and then some. There's more to HI Whistler than just a place to sleep. Grab a coffee and snack at Cheaky's Cafe in the hostel lobby, lounge on the outdoor decks with mountain views, store your bike, skis, and boards in the equipment storage room, hang out in the media room with its 52" HDTV and meet some cool new folks over a free game of pool in the lounge.

My first hostel experience was here at the Hi Hostel in Whistler…….
I’m older and was traveling solo in the fall offseason through Whistler. I noticed this place was one of the cheapest options in the area and knowing that it was recently built for the olympics I booked a private room w/bathroom.

I had a vehicle so being away from town wasn’t a problem and it was super easy to find. Check in was a breeze and the front desk lady was nice and answered any questions that I had. My room was found to be really clean and both the bathroom and bed area were really spacious, not much for decor but you’re just there to sleep and clean up anyway. I didn’t partake in any of the breakfast/lunch there or use the kitchen. Wifi was found to be strong and the tv had plenty of channels to browse through. The property was really quiet which is nice, probably because it was the off-season and there didn’t seem to be a lot of guests in the building.

I definitely enjoyed my stay here and wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again in the future!!

Overall, our stay at HI Whistler was good. Mind you, this is mostly a hostel, but we opted for the single bed room. A decision I’d recommend for most, unless you’re really trying to save money.

The room was clean, the bed fairly comfortable, and the bathroom had the basics. Now, for the price point, it was good and you probably shouldn’t expect too much.

However, we found things like out-of-stocked vending machines (both food and drink), a lack of extra/thicker bed sheets, and a dismal cafe somewhat disappointing. None of these things make or break our stay, but just things to note.

Once again, for the price point you’ll enjoy the stay. The ~30min bus to Whistler is simple enough and you can use that saved money on food.

Booked a private room for my elderly mother who visited our area for 11 nights. Located in the quiet Cheakamus Crossing residential neighbourhood, with a local transit bus stop steps away. This top floor room was spacious and bright, spotlessly clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Suggest you request a room on a high floor overlooking the park to avoid any traffic noise. Unfortunately, the night manager doesn't control access to the hostel decks so on hot nights with bedroom windows open, sleeping guests are regularly disturbed by people out there talking at 3am, and the possibility of a noisy dorm (?) party (1 during this stay). Besides this, it was a super and safe place for people visiting local residents. All age groups are welcome to stay at this property. Thank you!

I'm sure the place is adequate; however, the cancellation policy and communication is horrible. I asked to cancel a booked room on a Saturday - received an email that they would cancel it ( in writing). Four days later I get another email and I find out it wasn't cancelled and now was told it is a non-refundable booking. Totally get if it had been a last minute cancellation but it was submitted Saturday Feb 8th and the room was booked for Feb 15th. I am out around $200. Everywhere is booked, so I would be surprised if they could not fill it. Just FYI if you're booking here - don't count on getting a refund with a big lead time for cancellation. It leaves a bad impression of Whistler businesses and nonprofits as well.

Having extensively traveled, this is one of the most brutal hostel experiences in recent memory. Chief complaints include super rude and unwelcoming UK employees (with one or two exceptions) operating this Canadian hostel, hygiene issues, loads of flies inside the building, very poor internet service, cramped or tiny shared shower and toilet area in the rooms, beds that are super old and creaky to the point of making me wonder if the bed would collapse and wakes everyone up when anyone turns over, then super loud with music usually blasting almost everywhere all of the time or few quiet spaces, and super far away from the village, requiring a bus that takes a good half hour to get to the village. This hostel is deceptively marketed as one of the best, and not even close. There are much closer hostels to the village, and if this is one of the best, then what does one of the worst look like.

Beds and pillows are super uncomfortable, bed creaks with every movement. Most of the staff were unfriendly - price seems way too high for what you get. You can hear everything on the street through the windows. There was blood on the floor mat in the shower, wear shoes in the shower!

I mainly stayed in a private room which was clean, had a private bathroom & more than adequate space to spread out & chill on a ski trip. On a slightly negative point, the bed head wall backed onto the stairwell so on the odd occasion it was slightly noisy when people came back from the bars late (we’ve all been there so let it go).Very good kitchen facilities; as a hostel, quite rightly, it has groups so on 1 night (out of 7) there was no space to cook due to group being in there (which resulted in having to drink a few beers for an hour before eating) but, otherwise, not an issue to cook & eat whenever you wanted. Reception staff were friendly & helpful. It’s about a 7 mins bus ride to Creekside (best option in my opinion) to access to Gondola on Whistler and 15 mins to Whistler village for acces to Whistler or Blackcomb mountains.

Besides being busy, and beds will be beds, the staff were incredible and honest. Great deal and value for anyone looking for alternative to renting. Because landlords are sketchy anyways and you'll end up paying the same. 6 of one, Half dozen the other. At least you get hot showers, cold fidges, clean washrooms too. A no brainer

had booked for 7 nights on booking dot com after 3 nights. I had about as much as I could take with a shared room. The person above me slept with his shoes on all night and stunk the room out with smoking. So I asked if I could please be upgraded to a single room. The staff and manger were very accommodating with my request. I couldn’t be more happy. Thank you. I recommend staying here.

Getting off on Creekside is the closest stop. Whistler is quite stretched out along the highway, so from there, you take Bus #1 or #2 to Cheakamus. The bus driver will know which building to point you towards. If you have any problems, you may call our toll-free number from a cell phone or any pay phone for free.

Hello Jillian, We have 4 bed rooms that we can convert into a private group room. So the 4th bed would remain vacant and you'll have you an ensuite bathroom. You'll have to book it directly through the hostel as it's not listed on online sites. Give us a call or email and we'll help you arrange a booking. Cheers, Ryan

Hello Gywn, The hostel we need a signed letter from your parent or legal guardian for each of you. Please book at least a week in advance so that we can verify with your parents beforehand. But yes, the hostel can host you in Whistler!

Is there a regular shuttle service or transportation between the hostel and mountain? Cost?
Answer from HI Whistler

Hello Judy, Yes, there is a public bus that stops right outside our hostel. It leaves about every 30 minutes and cost $2.50 per trip. We have the schedule at Front Desk and also sell bus tickets and day passes. The bus starts early (about 5am) and ends late too (about 3am).

Hello Michelle, All of our rooms have low-pile carpet. There is no cloth on our headboards and there is no wallpaper. You can see a photo of our private rooms to give you an idea on TripAdvisor. Kind Regards, Ryan, GM
